Visitors to Manzanita enjoy its seven miles of quiet oceanbeach, horseback riding, a nine-hole golf course and twostate parks for camping and beachcombing.

Neah-Kah-Nie Mountain extends dramatically down intothe sea on the north end of Manzanita. A trail up themountain leads to a breathtaking panoramic view of thenorthern Ore gon coast and the Pacific Ocean. Manzanitais sandwiched between two beautiful state parks - OswaldWest State Park to the north and Nehalem Bay State Parkon the south.

Nehalem Bay State Park is on the south end of town is thelarger of the two. The park extends to the tip of the spitenclosing Nehalem Bay and features large RVcampgrounds, yurts, a horse camp with corrals, air stripwith fly-in camping, and a hiker-biker camp.

The City of Manzanita and the surrounding area is builtlargely on stabilized sand dunes. The tree cover is matureshore pine, with interspersed areas of beach grass. Thecity’s comprehensive plan encourages the maintenance ofopen space, and the rural character of the community.

Manzanita's economy is based primarily on in the secondhome and weekend tourist business. Approximately 66percent of the sewer hookups within the Urban Growth Areaare seasonal resi dences.

The growth thathas occurredsince the installa-tion of the sewersystem isgenerallyattributed torecre ationorienteddevelopment.

The fact that Man zanita has no property zoned industrial,or general commercial indicates its desire to remainprimarily residential. Commercial services are geared tothe support of the people who live in or visit the town.

Recent efforts to improve commercial services havecentered on Laneda Avenue, the "Downtown,",where newcommercial structures have been built or upgraded and aninterest by business people to improve its appearance hassurfaced and an active Manzanita Business Alliance isworth joining!

The scenic value of the beach is reflected in the City'szoning policies. The beachfront area is zoned residentialfor the most part, with a small section devoted to "LimitedCommercial" on Laneda and Ocean.
