Objective: What is the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction
Do Now: When you fall and scrape your knee, what happens to the cut over time?
• The production of offspring from one parent.
• Results in offspring that are genetically identical to the parent.
Mitosis
• Cells create new cells by dividing in two through a process called mitosis
• Used to grow and repair damaged tissues
Binary FissionBinary Fission: one organism
divides itself into 2 which results in 2 genetically identical organisms
Budding
Budding: a bud is produced by the parent, breaks off and grows into a new, genetically identical organism

Spore FormationSpore Formation: Spores made by mitosis
develop into a new organism after dispersal (Ex: fungus, algae)
Regeneration
If an organism loses a body part, it can regrow that part
Sexual Reproduction - 2 parents are involved in the production
of offspring
- Genetic material from each parent combines producing genetically different offspring
