Overview of Lightning Experience
What is Lightning Experience (LEX)?➤ Lightning Experience is the modern, updated user interface
designed for productivity and expanded functionality– Essentially an updated way to view and work in Salesforce!
➤ LEX changes how we engage with Salesforce! ➤ LEX does not change:
– Our data (not going anywhere!)– Our security (still in place!) – Our infrastructure (think customizations, automation etc.)
Why Lightning Experience (LEX)?➤ Lightning is here to stay: no new feature updates in Classic➤ Extended functionality:
– Customizable page layouts, report/dashboard builder➤ User Experience (UX)

Lighting Experience Transition Assistant
What is the LEX Transition Assistant? ➤ One stop shop for all aspects of transition from Classic to
Lightning➤ Accessible through system admin setup ➤ Consists of three phases
– Discover– Roll Out– Optimize
➤ Transition Assistant offers step-by-step instructions and tools strategically grouped together
What is the LEX Transition Assistant?
Discover Phase
Check Your Lightning Readiness➤ Lightning Experience Readiness Check exists in the Transition
Assistant (Discover Phase)➤ Generates an org-specific report that analyzes how ready your
org is to transition to lightning➤ Includes information on:
– Users – Features/customizations – Converting relevant features (buttons, visualforce pages,
objects/layouts/related lists)

Creating Your Change Management Plan!
Change Management Components➤ Rollout date➤ Rollout strategy➤ Develop trainings and demos
How to Select a Rollout Date:➤ Launch date/dates are key for user adoption➤ Considerations:
– Launch LEX with an event that involves/impacts your users and org
– Launch LEX when there are less non-Salesforce projects that could compete with the rollout!
➤ Examples:– Launch LEX to correspond with a big financial aid push – Launch LEX over summer and prepare users to use LEX
starting with the new academic year!
Choosing a Rollout Strategy Group of Users➤ Phased rollout strategy over
time➤ Identify teams/users who
would benefit from Lightning early and collect feedback
➤ Fine-tune rollout along the way!
Org. Wide➤ Launch LEX to all users at
once!➤ Efficient if your org. is
relatively flat and has a small amount of users (1 - 15)
Benefits/Considerations Group of Users➤ Learn and refine as rollouts
continue➤ Collect feedback along the
way!➤ Control which users
can/cannot access lightning➤ Ensure change management
accounts for multiple rollouts/trainings
Org. Wide➤ Launch LEX to all users at
once!➤ Single campaign to move
users to Lightning➤ Lightning must be ready to
launch!➤ User adoption is key: think
feedback, customization/use case gaps etc.
Develop Trainings and Demos!➤ You will have to train users to work in Lightning! ➤ Prepare trainings that tell a story (example: advisor navigating a
student record, running reports)➤ Show concrete examples and test everything beforehand ➤ Record videos:
– Demo navigation and creating/updating records by object
Develop Trainings and Demos!➤ Create a forum (Chatter group, Slack thread, Spreadsheet
tracker) to communicate! ➤ Identify and utilize Salesforce Lightning Experience Champions➤ Host follow-up sessions or office hours!
Roll Out Phase
Roll Out Phase:
Lightning Features
➤ Setup My Domain➤ Salesforce Files➤ Home Page➤ Lightning apps➤ Activity timeline
Existing Customizations
➤ Prepare actions/buttons➤ Visualforce pages➤ AppExchange packages➤ Attachments and notes
(classic)
➤ The Roll Out Phase is where you will implement LEX features and adjusting existing customizations:
LEX Configuration Converter➤ The Lightning Experience Configuration Converter prepares your
org for LEX by streamlining/automating transition tasks ➤ Converter scans your org. and determines updates needed for:
– Visualforce pages– Javascript buttons and links– Hard-coded URL’s– Actions and Buttons– AppExchange Packages
➤ Converter exists outside of Salesforce and scans standard and custom objects
LEX Configuration Converter➤ Converter often automates updates or walks you through
manual updates!➤ Not using that feature - don’t convert it! ➤ Converter Link
Convert Attachments and Notes➤ Salesforce Files is LEX’s new way to manage, share, collaborate,
store and follow files ➤ Phase out Classic Attachments and Classic Notes➤ Convert attachments to Salesforce Files and classic notes to
Enhanced Notes➤ Magic Mover for Notes and Attachments is free on the
AppExchange and automates the conversion work! ➤ Key: **Notes are not reportable**
How to Launch Lightning
Turn on Lightning for Users➤ Users must have the Lightning Experience User permission➤ Permission is automatically enabled in all Standard profiles➤ Permission is not included in custom profiles by default➤ Accounting for your rollout strategy:
– You can use permission sets to assign a small group of users to LEX without assigning to every user with that profile!
Turn on Lightning for Users➤ Note:
– Salesforce Classic users with the Lightning User Experience permission will default to Classic
– Users can switch themselves to the new interface – Admin can make LEX default for some/all users
Lightning Launch Day➤ On launch day, you will want to enable Lightning as the default
experience➤ Steps:
– In system admin setup, navigate to the Lightning Experience Transition Assistant
– Select Rollout Phase and Launch Lightning– Switch users (user-by-user basis) or toggle turn-on switch!
Can I Switch Back to Classic?➤ Yes!➤ All users will have option to switch between Lightning and Classic
– Use Classic to inform Lighting User-Experience– This can even be encouraged as users get familiar with
Lightning!
How to Toggle between LEX and Classic?➤ From Lightning to Classic:
– Click the profile picture– Click “Switch to Salesforce
Classic”➤ To toggle from Classic to
Lightning:– Click “Switch to Lightning
Experience” with the Lightning bolt icon
Can I Hide Classic?➤ Yes!➤ Use either profiles or permission
sets to “Hide Option to Switch to Salesforce Classic”
Optimize
In Lightning? Now What!➤ Identify Success Metrics and
Measure– Check out the Lightning
Usage App to see insights on Lightning adoption
➤ Continue driving Lightning Adoption and Customize as needed
➤ Turn off Classic for your Org.
