12th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle A) A Sunday Reflection “Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin?... Do not be afraid; you

are worth more than many sparrows” (Mt 10:29.31).

A few days ago I was sitting in our back porch. It was a windy day, and as I sat there I saw a little bird looking for a place to perch itself. The thought came to me that the Lord’s tenderness and compassion makes Him care for all His creatures. His heart is moved for He knows that we are afraid and so He comforts and consoles us.

In today’s gospel Jesus addresses all our fears. From the “Fear no one” (10:26) of the opening line to the reminder that we are worth more in God’s eyes than the lowliest and smallest of his creatures, this whole passage is an invitation to reconsider our fears.

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul”(10:28). The Lord does not ask us to be rash. He knows well what we should properly fear: the one who can destroy our souls.

Nothing can happen to us without our heavenly Father’s knowledge (10:29). Let us put our trust in Him. Let us hand over to Him all our fears, with confidence that the One who cares for the little sparrow cares lovingly for each of His children. God bless you.

Domingo 12o del Tiempo Ordinario (Ciclo A)

Reflexión Dominical “¿No se venden dos gorriones por unas monedas? (…) No tengan

miedo, que ustedes valen más que muchos gorriones” (Mt 10,29.31)

Hace unos días me encontraba sentado en el porche de la casa. Hacía mucho viento y vi un pajarito que buscaba dónde asentarse. Se me vino a la mente la ternura y compasión de Dios que cuida de todas Sus criaturas. Su corazón se mueve porque sabe que tenemos miedo y por ello nos consuela y nos conforta.

En el evangelio de hoy Jesús se dirige a todos nuestros miedos. Desde el “No tengan miedo” (10:26) del comienzo del pasaje hasta recordarnos que valemos más a los ojos de Dios que la más pequeña de Sus criaturas, todo es una invitación a mirar nuestros miedos con otros ojos.

“No teman a los que matan el cuerpo y no pueden matar el alma” (10,28). El Señor no dice que seamos imprudentes. Él sabe bien a qué debemos temer, a lo que puede destruir nuestras almas.

Nada puede sucedernos sin que lo sepa nuestro Padre celestial (10,29). Pongamos en Él nuestra confianza. Entreguémosle todos nuestros miedos con la seguridad de que Él, que cuida del gorrioncito, cuida amorosamente a cada uno de Sus hijos. Que Dios los bendiga.

The Didaché

ACCORDING TO MOST SCHOLARS, a brief, anonymous Christian treatise

written between the years 65 and 80 and known as The Didaché, is

considered the oldest Christian catechism in history. Didaché means

“teaching” in Greek, and so the document, also known as “the

Teaching of the Twelve Apostles,” or simply “The Teaching”, has been

respected and preserved to this day as the first and oldest written

catechism.

This brief treatise provides us with extra-biblical data regarding the institutions and life of the earliest Christian communities. The

Didaché codifies the moral, liturgical, and legal dispositions of the

early Church that were considered convenient and necessary then.

The Didaché contains the first known instructions for the

celebration of both Baptism and the Eucharist, as well as one of the

three earliest known forms of the Lord’s Prayer. Considering the

various translations of the work, the geographical dispersion of the

fragments found and the list of later works that depend on it, the

Didaché should be better known among Christians today.

La Didajé MUCHOS ESTUDIOSOS consideran que un breve tratado anónimo,

escrito entre los años 65 y 80 de nuestra era y conocido como La

Didajé, es el catecismo cristiano más antiguo que existe. Didajé

significa “enseñanza” en griego, y así el documento, también

conocido como “Enseñanza de los Doce Apóstoles”, o solamente “La

Enseñanza”, ha sido respetado y preservado como el primer

catecismo conocido.

Este breve tratado nos brinda información extra bíblica sobre las

instituciones y la vida de las comunidades cristianas más antiguas.

La Didajé codifica disposiciones morales, litúrgicas y legales de la
