Information about the 13

th International Biennial of Ceramics:

Owing to the celebration of the 13th

edition of the Manises International Biennial of Ceramics,

this report has been elaborated to communicate all the events related to this contest. In it, you will

find all the updated information with regard to the dates, timetable, activities and participants in

order to spread as much as possible the events which will take place in the following months.

The Manises International Biennial of Ceramics reached its largest extent in 2001, when its

national and European nature turned into an international one, in order to promote all over the world

the name of Manises as a city of ceramics. The contest succeeds in connecting tradition with

modernity and connects the traditional ceramic of the past with the contemporary art of the present.

In this way, it tries to enhance ceramics as a means of artistic expression. The contest establishes

two different categories: Ceramics Arts specialty, which consists in the free creation of a piece of

art, and Design of Ceramic Product specialty, consisting in the creation of a work that can be

industrially produced.

For this reason, in the course of its celebration, the 13th

International Biennial of Ceramics

will organize different activities which we describe below.

Meeting of the jury and issuance of its

verdict.

30

OCTOBER:

-Opening of Estela Miguel’s exhibition. It

can be visited until the 1st of March, 2018.

-Master Class given by Estela Miguel.

-Opening of Petra Bittl’s and Sonia

Ferragut’s exhibitions. They can be

visited until the 1st of March, 2018.

-Guided visit to Sonia Ferragut’s

exhibition.

Place: Manises Museum of Ceramics.

Time: 10:00 a.m.

-Press conference about the 13th

International Biennial of Ceramics.

-Master Class given by Petra Bittl.

Biennial of Ceramics exhibition. It can be

-Awards ceremony of the 13

International Biennial of Ceramics. The act will end with a chamber concert

given by the group Suite Art.

ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE BIENNIAL:

Exhibition and Master Class of Estela Miguel:

Estela Miguel, as an invited artist of the 13th

International Biennial of Ceramics,

will exhibit a collection made up of works based on the relationship of affection

between ceramics and other kind of materials. The exhibition will be opened until the

1st of March, 2018. It can be visited in Manises, in the exhibition room of the Casa de

la Cultura, 91 Mayor Street.

The Master Class will consist of two parts. In the first one, the artist will give a

conference in which she will show the courses of action, concepts, methods and

development which converge in the production of her personal work. The second part

will be a practical workshop where the participants will be able to produce an

assembled work, as it is the assemblage the technique which Estela Miguel uses to

produce her works. The Master Class will be given in the Art and Superior Ceramics

School of Manises, 22 Ceramista Alfons Blat Street.

Exhibition and Master Class of Petra Bittl:

The artist Petra Bittl, as the winner of the Arts specialty in the 12th International

Biennial of Ceramics, will exhibit her most recent works, which will be shown until

the 1st of March, 2018. The place to visit them will be the Art room of the Manises

Museum of Ceramics, 22 Sagrario Street.

During her Master Class, entitled "Simple Printing Techniques on Ceramic",

Petra Bittl will show the public two printing techniques on ceramic. On the one hand,

the "Litho" technique, which consists in printing laser copies on ceramics. It allows to

transfer fonts, drawings and black and white photographs. On the other hand,

"Monoprint" technique, which consists in printing own drawings onto clay. The

Master Class will be given in the Art and Superior Ceramics School of Manises, 22

Ceramista Alfons Blat Street.

Suite Art musical performance

The group Suite Art is composed of professional musicians. Most of them are

conservatory teachers and members of different orchestras of the Region of

Valencia, with high musical studies and dedicated to the interpretation of all kind of

music adapted to the event they are playing for.

In this particular case, in order to close the awards ceremony of this 13th

edition

of the Biennial, the group Suite Arte will play a repertoire of musical pieces which

will honour the winner of the 13th

International Biennial of Ceramics. For this

reason, we will listen music from his/her country of origin. The performance will

take place in the Auditori Germanies, 6 García Lorca Street, Manises.

Guided visit to Sonia Ferragut’s exhibition:

The artist Sonia Ferragut, winner of the Design specialty in the 12th

International

Biennial of Ceramics, will show her works through a guided visit to her exhibition,

which is set up in the Art room of the Manises Museum of Ceramics (22 Sagrario

Street) and will be opened until the 1st of March, 2018.

Ceramic Cineforum:

This activity is dedicated to auteur cinema whose subject matter is related to

ceramics. The films which will be screened have an artistic plot which will show

concepts, courses of action and methods that different authors apply to create their

works. They give the opportunity to explain these issues with an artistic vision.

The screening of the films and documentaries is coordinated by Rafaela Pareja,

who is also the organizer of the "Mostra Internacional de Cinema Ceràmic de

Castelló".

The audience will be able to enjoy the following films:

-"The Raku Experience", film by Mike Tavera and Toni Medalla with a duration

of 8 minutes and a later talk. It will be screened the 7th

of November.

-"Enric Mestre", film by Tan Hongyu with a duration of 45 minutes and a later

conference. It will be screened the 7th

of November.

-"Encaix", film by Eva Rodríguez with a duration of 42 minutes and a later

conference. It will be screened the 8th

of November.

-"Lutum Alium", premiere of the film shot by Luis Pardo and a later conference.

It will be screened the 8th

of November.

The films will be projected in the Auditori Germanies, 3 Lorca Street, Manises.
