Forum
THE UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA (UNAA) WORKS TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF THE UN AND ITS WORK AND TO ENGAGE AUSTRALIANS IN KEY UN PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS).
UNAA – which has UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Consultative Status - is seeking to progress achievement of the SDGs through collaborative partnerships that inspire interest, mobilise resources, encourage dialogus and guarantee positive impact.
UNAA runs events and programs across Australia to raise awareness of the SDGs, in partnership with government, business and civil society.
Since June 2018, UNAA has led small group study tours to the UN in Geneva and New York. These have allowed us to make connections with UN officials, missions and UN-related organisations, including many Australians working in the UN system.
UNAA Victoria is providing the Secretariat for the Forum (contact details on rear cover).
From 14-16 April 2020, the UN Association of Australia will bring together civil society, governments, business and the UN under the theme of building sustainable partnerships.
This will be an outcome-oriented gathering guided by Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals but designed to encompass all of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
2020 is the end of the first trimester in the UN’s 15-year agenda to transform the world through the SDGs - an ambitious shared framework of goals and targets.
This timing means that 2020 is the ideal time to make a stronger commitment to partnership and cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. This Forum will be designed to show the world who you are partnering with to help progress the UN’s Sustainable Development Agenda.
“It is widely recognized that sustainable development with its three dimensions -- economic, social and environmental -- calls for a fully integrated approach, engaging all stakeholders. Partnerships are critical for achieving progress across the full agenda,” UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J Mohammed, 11 April 2019
“In many ways, Goal 17 is the ‘connective tissue’ which will ensure an integrated and holistic approach to sustainable development,” – UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J Mohammed, 11 April 2019.
“The UN system is most impactful when enabling others. This means building
meaningful partnerships with the widest array of Governments, regional
organisations, international financial institutions, civil society organizations,
academia and the private sector”
– UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, 2017
