Year 10 Camp
Student Reflection Comments
1. Positives (What I liked most and why) Sitting at the top of the Bluff for a solid hour and a half. The water sports. I wasn’t particularly good at it but it
was fun to mess around and have a water fight. Staying up late and chatting with the girls in my dorm.
Even though we are all in different social groups we socialised and had a lot of fun together throughout the camp.
Abseiling. It was a new experience for me, which is why I liked it the most.
2. Challenges (What did I find most challenging and put me outside my comfort zone?) One challenge was abseiling, I was worried that I would
fall. After doing it once, it was enjoyable to do. Trying not to over eat because all of the food was so
amazing. Running across the kayaks’ noses. 3. Something I learned that I didn't know or couldn't do before The instructors taught us windsurfing; I never fell off
and it was so much fun. I have never done windsurfing before and I learned quite quickly.
4. Something I learned about myself I am able to overcome my fears. I am the stealth master when the teachers came in to
the dorms late at night. Tehya and I are an awesome tag team in straw soccer.
My team won! Yay! That even when I don’t like something, I continue to
push through and try my hardest to succeed. I don’t snore as loudly and I didn’t panic as much. People view me in a different way to what I view
myself. I’m not scared of high places. 5. A funny/embarrassing moment you are happy to share Camp was full of embarrassing and funny moments
and are mostly too embarrassing and funny to share. 6. Anything you wish to suggest that would make the
camp better for next year’s group. An extra day.
I would suggest not having an aquatic camp during winter.
I guess more involvement, but it’s hard to improve an awesome camp!
7. How would you rate the Year 10 camp on a scale of 1-10 (10 being sensational)? 9 8.5 10 10/10 8 8. Any other comments? Good job to all the teachers and staff involved in
organising this camp; it was great and everyone had an awesome time!
The praise/worship at the end of each day was so fun and I loved the personal devotions that Mrs Saman and Solomon shared with us. (For the teachers we kept up, some of us are sorry…. some of us)
Good breakfast.

National Motor Museum It was with great excitement that 3W and 3F embarked
on an excursion to the National Motor Museum on
Friday 19th of May. The museum provided the perfect
venue to learn and understand how transport has
changed over time, which is a component of the Year 3
Humanities and Social Sciences subject. In addition to
viewing the various galleries, students were able to
participate in the museum’s Legoworks program, where
they created a small-scale production line as part of a
team. It was great to see the students’ problem solving,
coordination and teamwork skills in action. Thank you to
our wonderful parent volunteers for your help on the
excursion as it we couldn’t have done it without you. It
was a great day enjoyed by all! Mr Michael Webb
I really enjoyed our excursion. My favourite part was
looking at the Junk Car which had lots of different things
on it. Another part was when we had to find the
different little Model T Ford cars. Shayla Mason (3W)
My favourite part of the excursion was the Lamborghini
and Ferrari cars. I also learned that engines in old cars
are in the back of the car and their doors are much
smaller than they are today. Oliver Tingey (3W)
I really enjoyed the excursion. We made cars with Lego
and we had to hunt around the museum for different
things. Bodie Norton (3F)
I liked making cars as a group. We learned about how cars were so different 100 years ago. Arok Mabil (3F)
Walkathon
On Friday in Week 2 the sun was shining and the Junior
School had the their feet ready to raise money for the
Philippines. They walked and walked for an hour and a
half, with some students walking up to 20 laps of the
school. Each student raised money either per lap or by
donation, and everyone has been collecting their money
ever since. Thank you to all the parents who helped and
came out to watch and support.

Year 8/9 Boys Soccer Hope CC sent two Year 8/9 boys teams to the Northern Zone Soccer Carnival. Our Year 8 team finished sixth and our Year 9 team finished ninth in their respective divisions. Our boys battled gamely and played some competitive soccer, capitalising on the opposition's errors and finishing clinically in front of goal. Unfortunately, unlike the Chelsea Football Club who were crowned Premier League Champions this season, we were unable to win it all this year. Mr Penn and Mr Brawn (coaches) want to congratulate all players on a good carnival.
Book Club Book Club is a Vertical Learning
elective designed to encourage
and promote a love of reading,
thus improving literacy skills.
Students choose books from the
Library or bring their own appropriate books from home.
Students may choose to read magazines or comics on
occasions. Students are required to keep a reading log of
books read throughout the term and prepare a Book
Review for assessment. Students spend most of their
time in the Library participating in Silent Sustained
Reading.
“I enjoyed the quiet time in the library to read books.”
Hayden Bowers, Year 8
“I enjoyed reading books in the peace and quiet of the
library. It’s a good place to work or read.” Ogande Solo,
Year 6
“I liked being able to read books in a quiet space. Books
help expand your vocabulary. This is my favourite VL!”
Chloe Wyatt, Year 9
On Wednesday 12 April, Book Club went on an excursion
to the Munno Para branch of the Playford Library,
located in the new Stretton Centre. Students were given
a tour and talk about facilities available before having
some free time to spend in the library and playground.
“I enjoyed the library visit, looking at the centre and also
playing on the playground.” Caleb Hearn, Year 9
“I loved the fact that we had a chance to view all the
different floors of the centre.” Mercy Yebu, Year 7
“I enjoyed the visit to the library because there were
lots of new books to discover.” Sarah-Ann Scannell,
Year 7

Jam Factory
On the 31st of May the Year 8 Art students had the
opportunity to have a guided tour of the Jam Factory,
where they were able to see a glass hot shop (glass
blowing), ceramics (throwing clay on a wheel and the
glazing process including the kiln), jewellery and metal
workshop and the furniture workshop. The students
were "blown" away with how many steps it takes to
make a glass blown vase. Following this we walked to the
Art Gallery where we saw the Ramsay Art Prize
Exhibition. This was a wonderful exhibition as it allowed
the students to interact with the art. This was their
favourite thing of the day. I then took them on a tour of
the gallery, explaining what each wing of the gallery
represented, and went through the Australian art
development. The following is what the students had to
say about what their favourite thing of the day was. Mrs
Saman- Art Teacher
Braydon- Just being out of school and being able to go
inside the big tent at the Art Gallery.
Hayden- the tent and seeing the glass blowing.
Nathan- the Jam Factory was pretty cool.
Ben-Jam Factory; the glass blowing was pretty intense.

Gallery.
Blake- the Jam Factory.
Cung- looking at the things in the Art Gallery: the
mannequins with nails and screws in them.
Koby- I enjoyed the whole thing.
Jasmine- The Art Gallery and all the sculptures.
Malachi- The glass blowing at the Jam Factory.
Roy- The Art Gallery.

Library Resources The Library has many exciting and informative children's books which we want to keep in pristine condition. Unfortunately, some junior picture books have recently had pages drawn in them with coloured pencils and textas, which spoils the presentation of the books for others. We will appreciate parents keeping an eye on younger children when the books go home to ensure pages aren't drawn in. Thank you.
Car Parking Dear Parents, from time to time there is a need to remind everyone of some matters requiring attention. There are two matters which we have been asked to remind you of:
Please do not queue on Yorktown Road if the Hope Christian College car park is congested. This practice has resulted in some near-misses recently. Motorists try to drive past the College but when the queue is blocking the lane, they encroach into the on-coming lane.
Also, please respect that the Craigmore Shopping Village car-park is a private car-park for people using the shops. The Council car-park at the eastern end of the shops is available for parents to park when collecting children, or attending the College for any length of time. The Managers of the Shopping Village have suggested they may fine people for parking there if not using the shops.
OSHC & Vacation Care Our Vacation Care packages are available on the College website or from the OSHC foyer. In addition to our normal activities, we have:
2 cinema excursions: “Despicable Me 3” and “Cars 3”
Incursions: Creative Digital Media: Jungle Theme and Children’s First Aid Course
Excursions: Bowling
Plus much more!
All Vacation Care bookings must be in by
Friday 23rd June.
Operating dates for Vacation Care:
Monday July 10th – 21st
We are also offering care for PUPIL FREE DAYS 24th
and 25th July
BOOKINGS REQUIRED. Please do not arrive at a session without making a booking.
For all enrolled OSHC and Vacation Care families, we have a successful Facebook page. This purpose of this page is to keep our families updated and informed. This page is not for bookings, but for important information you may need to know throughout holidays and Term time. www.facebook.com/groups/HopeOSHC/
Please note fee increase as of July 1st. Contact Hazel for particulars.
