  1. Exp: (d) All the given reasons are correct. Other

reasons except these were:

z Muslims who had supported partition of Bengal felt

a great disappointment.

z Refusing by British Government to establish auniversity in Aligarh and providing it govenrmental

aid.

  2. Exp: (a) Statements 1 and 2 are correct. This

proposal carried with it promoting Hindu-Muslim

unity; removing untouchability; returning titles and

citations; boycotting government schools, colleges,

courts, foreign cloths and disobeying the law in

which not paying of taxes was stated, were included.

  3. Exp: (b) Young nationalists like Jawahar Lal Nehru

and Subhash Chandra Bose who were impressed by

socialism criticised both Zamindari system and

Capitalistic philosophy. Hence statement 1 is wrong.

These nationalists, with 'Complete Independence'

slogan, were in favour of openly expressing the anti

imperialistic expression. Statement 2 is correct.

  4. Exp: (d) All four reasons are correct for the

commercialisation of agriculture. Commercialisation

of agriculture was an economic compulsion for

peasants because they were compelled to obtain debt

at high rate from the money lenders to pay the high

land revenue and they had to sell their crop at lowcost. They expected a high income from the

commercial crop.

  5. Exp: (a) Keeping in view the problems related to

waste disposal, Central Pollution Control Board has

initiated the concept of co-processing of wastes in

cement Kilns.

  6. Exp: (a) Siruvani Hills are situated in Nilgiri Bio

Sphere Niche. This Niche is consisted of Wyanaad

Wildlife Sanctuary, Nagarhole, Bandipur,

Mudumalai, whole part of Nilambur that has a forest

cover, upper Nilgiri plateau, Silent Valley and

Siruvani Hills.

  7. Exp: (c) Sambalpur Elephant Reserve is in Odisha

not in Madhya Pradesh. Sonitpur Elephant Reserve

is situated in eastern hilly forests of Assam and

Arunachal Pradesh.

8. Exp: (a) Hydrogen sulphide at low concentration

increases the headache, vomiting, coma and

imbalances of respiratory system.

  9. Exp: (b) Percentage change in demand for the goods

divided by the percentage change in its price.

‘Price elasticity of demand’ is a measure of the

responsiveness of the demand because of change in

goods' price.

  10. Exp: (c) As per the Food Security Act 2013, Priority

based households are entitled to 5 kg of food grains

per person per month and the Antyodaya households

to 35 kg per household per month.

Some other provisions:  For children in the age

group of 6 months to 6 years; totally free meals

through Anganwadi as per their age.

For children aged 6-14 years, one free mid-day meal

every day (except on school holidays) in all govt.

and govt. aided schools upto class 8.

Every pregnant and lactating mother is entitled to

free meal at the local Anganwadi (during pregnancy

and six months after child birth) as well as maternity

assistance of Rs. 6000 in instalments.

Though, the Act does not specify criteria for the

identification of households eligible for PDS

entitlements, the identication of eligible householdsis left to state governments (subject to the scheme's

guidelines).

  11. Exp: (c) Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT)

Direct Taxes are the taxes that are borne by the

person on whom they are levied.

MAT was introduced in Income Tax to realise tax

from the companies that earn prots as per their

account books and pay dividends to their Shareholders

but do not pay taxes because under the Income Tax

Act they compute their income as very low and showit accordingly.

Under MAT if income tax calculated under the

provisions of IT Act is less than 18.5% of the Book

Prot, then such book prot shall be treated as total

income of the company and tax payable on the total

income shall be 18.5% on the book prot.

 12. Exp: (d) Ination

Decit nance can be done by borrowings or by

printing notes. When R.B.I supports the Govt. by

printing new money this is reffered as monetary

decit or decit nancing. Since it directly increasesmoney supply so leads to ination.

  14. Exp: (c) Drainage area of Mahananda is Bihar, West

Bengal and Bangladesh.

  15. Exp: (c) Eastern Himalayas gets more average

annual rainfall in comparison to Western Himalayas.

  16. Exp: (c) Sandalwood trees are found in tropical

deciduous forests. Only Tamil Nadu state in India

gets rainfall from retreating monsoon.

 17. Exp: (b) States do not have right to be separated

whereas a new state can be formed by dividing them.

Hence statement 2 is wrong. Legislative and

Executive powers between Centre and States have

been divided in Indian Constitution but not the

judiciary powers. Infact , Indian Consti tution

provides an independent judiciary under which

Supreme Court, High Courts and Lower Courts are

placed. Hence statement 4 is also wrong.

  18. Exp: (a) In Parliamentary form of government,

President represents the Country. Hence statement(b) is wrong. All provisions mentioned in the

Constitution can not be enforced through the court,

Hence statement (c) is also wrong. Indian Constitution

is a written constitution but it is a mixture of

exibility and rigidity. Hence statement (d) is also

wrong.

  19. Exp: (a) Judicial Interpretation can be done on the

46- Exp: (c) Biodigestors are anaerobic tanks which

digest/decompose organic materials under the action

of bacteria. It is used to treat human waste in an

ecological way. it can be used as a good fertilizer

for the soil. It doesn’t create leakage problem anddoesn’t require to be cleared or emptied. Hence, it

is more effective than the septic tank and doesn’t

produce foul smelling gas rather it produces

odourless gas.

47- Exp: (c) Due to the release of CO2  by living

organisms, mosquitoes are able to nd them and get

attracted to them. Most mosquito repellents work

on the principle that they make the living organisms

less attractive to the mosquitoes. All of the articial

mosquito repellents have one or other harmfuleffects. Thus, there is need to promote natural

mosquito repellents, which includes: Euca lyptus ,

 Neem, Peppermint, Citronella, Garlic etc.

48- Exp: (d) Vectors are living organisms that can

transmit infectious diseases between humans or from

animals to human. In medicine, vectors are

organisms that don't cause disease themselves.

Mosquitoes are one of the most common vectors

causing many diseases.

Dengue, Chikangunia, Yellow fever and Japanese

Encephalitis are the viral diseases transferred by

mosquitoes.

Malaria is a protozoan disease (plasmodium)

transmitted by female anopheles (mosquito).

49- Exp: (b) Bullet trains are high speed trains using

special rolling stock and dedicated tracks. They

normally operate on standard gauge. Curvature is

inversely proportional to radius i.e.

  Curvature1

α

Also, as speed of a vehicle increases, the radius also

increases at the turning to prevent the vehicle from

toppling.

So for high-speeded bullet trains, radius of turning

is large, so curvature is less.

is involved in the development and functioning of

living organisms as the entire genetic information

is incoded in them. RNA are mainly involved in

protein synthesis and sometimes in the transmissionof genetic information also.

DNA has a helical geometry of B form and RNA

has a helical geometry of A form. DNA is a double

stranded molecule whereas RNA is single stranded.

  DNA is composed of Deoxyribose sugar; phosphate;

four nitrogen bases: Adenine, Guanine, cytosine and

Thymine.

RNA is composed of Ribose Sugar; phosphate; four

 55. Exp: (a) In Berubari case, the question before the

Supreme Court was, whether under art 3, Parliament's

power of changing the areas and boundaries of the

states also includes the power of handing over anystate or its part to any foreign state? The court stated

that Parliament can't do so by a normal law. Hence

9th constitutional amendment was passed by the

Parliament for this and Berubari union area was

handed over to Pakistan. Hence statement (a) is

correct.

are very crucial for normal functioning of living

organisms. Gene carry information for the protein

synthesis. Two important steps involved in protein

synthesis are transcription and translation.

During transcription, the code written on DNA is

copied to messenger RNA (mRNA).

The ribosomes assemble amino acids into proteins.

80- Exp: (c) Radioactivity is spontaneous nuclear decay

from the nucleus due to nuclear instability.

Radioactivity nds application in energy production

by nuclear ssion, x-ray, carbon dating in estimation

of fossil age, sterlisation of medical instruments and

food, in detecting diseases when used as tracers, etc.

Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI) uses a magnetic

eld and electromagnetic wave to create detailed

images of the organs and tissues within the body.

Himalayan river system. Peninsular rivers follow a

denite route hence do not form meander. Most

rivers of this system are based on rainfall.

of sound. For example, roaring of lion is a sharp

sound but its pitch is very low. Where as buzzing of

mosquito is a slow sound but its pitch is higher thanlion's roar.

  92. Exp: (a) Religion is not dened in the Constitution.

Hence statement 2 is wrong. According to Supreme

Court, academic study of a great saint's life, his

teachings, philosophy and culture does not come

under religious instruction whereas the activity of

promoting tenets of a community or a group, rituals,

observances, ceremonies and method of worship

come under religious instruction. Hence statement

3 is also wrong.  93. Exp: (d) Canadian government inacted such a law

according to which only those Indians could go to

Canada who had come Canada directly from India.

Due to this, entry of Indians in Canada was almost

restricted because there was no any such naval

facility during that time through which one could

reach Canada from this waterway.

In November 1913, Supreme Court of Canada

permitted such 35 indians to enter Canada who had

not done continuous journey. Hence statement (1)

is wrong. Encouraged with the decision of the court,

Indian citizen Gurdip Singh working in Singapore

decided to reach Vancouver with Indians living in

South and East Asia by chartering a ship named

Komagata Maru. Hence statement 2 is also wrong.

z Karyala: This is a folk dance of Himachal

Pradesh.

z Theyyam: This is a stage show based on rituals

of worship in Kerala.

  96. Exp: (a) Statements 1 and 2 are correct. The story

of love affairs between Prince Udayan and

Manimekhalai who were born from Madhavi is

detailed in Manimekhalai text. In this, Manimekhalai

adopts Buddhism at last . The author of

‘Silappadikaram’ text is Ilango Adigal. This text

indicates the transformation of matriarchal society

of Sangam era to partriarchal society.

 97. Exp: (a) IUCN has put Bonnet Macaque monkey

species under ‘Least Concern’ category.

 98. Exp: (a) ‘Kudumba Shree’ is a woman-oriented

community based poverty reduction programme

being implemented in Kerala. In 1995, a thrift and

credit society was started as a small saving bank for

poor women with the objective to encourage savings.

99- Exp: (b) Garbage being organic materials contain

left out food products, vegetables, owers and other

bio degradable materials. So it contains water/moisture content whereas other type i.e. rubbish is

generally dry inorganic waste.

Incineration involves the combustion of organic

wastes converting them into ash, ue gas and heat.

It can be used to produce electric power.

Composting is the process of recycling decomposed

organic material into rich soil known as compost.

This compost is a very good manure.

As Indian domestic waste has more of garbage

having organic material which has greater water/

moisture content, makes it economically inviable to

incinerate. More amount of heat energy is required

to burn it and simultaneously it produces more

smoke. Hence composting is preferable.

Landlls are unviable due to land acquisition issues,

water, air and soil pollution. The large number of

landll arrangements in India is causing serious

health issues to the nearby residents. For e.g. seepage

of carcinogenic materials can cause cancer.

100- Exp: (a) Green buildings are structure which use

processes that are environmentally responsible and

resource efcient throughout the building’s life

cycle. Banks calculate the asset value of the

buildings based on traditional information without

incorporating the long-run low cost of the buildings.

Energy conversation building codes (ECBC), energy
