East Tennessee Children’s Hospital’s mission is to improve the health of children through exceptional, comprehensive family-centered care, wellness and education. Our School Nurse Conference puts that mission into action within the community by enhancing the knowledge of school nurses about managing common childhood illnesses and injuries and providing updated information about changes in care for children with chronic diseases.

Course objectives

By attending this conference, you should be able to:

1) Explain the treatment of simple and complex medical/traumatic events using minimal equipment/resources.

2) Identify common internalized and externalized symptoms that are part of mental disorders in children and adolescents.

3) Give examples of best practices for collaborating with Department of Children’s Services (DCS) regarding at-risk

children.

4) Describe how to manage seizures in the school setting using an increased understanding of the seizure process.

5) Discuss the role of the school nurse in the scope of human trafficking.

6) Recognize school nurses can contribute to a child’s academic progress by treating his/her physical condition.

7) Value the positive student impact provided by the presence and continuity of the school nurse.

This activity will provide 6.25 contact hours. East Tennessee Children’s Hospital is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Tennessee Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
