r JOTTINGS by Joni
It is to be understood that I have not taken a stand on Mrs. Butz's problem with the Delmar Postal Service which she wrote about in a letter 'which appeared in my column last week. I have not heard from the Post Office of their explanation for what happened, but I did receive a letter in reply to Mrs. Butz's letter.
Here it is:
An Open Letter to Mrs. Butz Dear Mrs. Butz,
I, personalty, c'annot answer all the questions rais~d in your recent letter, since I am not a postal employee. But; I do feel, that by writing .an open letter to Mr. Mulholland, rather than talking with him personally, that you have "blackened the eye" of every fine postal employee in qelmar, who do their job efficiently and faithfully.
True, you have had an unfortunate experience. Perhaps the substitute carrier made a mistake by delivering your mail,· but everyone, thank God, is huma'n and capable of error.
I do know, .however, that unless the sender of your "special delivery'" letter requested a signature, your carrier acted properly by ringing the bell & placing it in your letter box. As far as different delivery times, this happens occasionally when the mail volume is so heavy that a substitute is put on the route along with your regular carrier and each do a part of the route: Your mail
valid reason, fail to shovel their walks for delivery of mail? Did you know that postal regulations state _ that mail need not be delivered unless walks are shoveled! Your mailman also has to contend with unleashed aggressive dogs who often bite - and our town has a leash law!
I know of one mailman in Delmar who found one of his patrans. quite ill, after noticing she hadn't been seen for a couple of days. If it hadn't been for his "humanness & concern," she might have died.
I also know of several people who call their mailmen at home in the evening to request special favors & to my knowledge their mailmen try to oblige. But I also know of several people who show no appreciation for their carrier's good service. Would you be willing to trudge through snow & ice or walk in the pouring rain, or be attacked by unleashed dogs to deliver mail to people who won't even mutter a civil" word, much less thank you for your service. These same people who never take the time to say "hello" ~re always the first to complain if someone makes a mistake.
To my knowledge there is no public or private enterprise anywhere, that has 100% perfect unerring employees. It is I my feeling that 95% of our post-I al employees do a great job and and people who drag little problems into the public eye, rather than settle them privately with the people involved, deserve no special consideration by our mailmen!
Sincerely, Carol Hoyt Delmar, N.Y.

"Catchin The Flo Wilh The Seniors"
What is- it like being a Senior in the year nineteen hundred and seventy four? It is absolute~ Iy an amaz;ng experience, that I find extremely difficult to even put in words. You sort 'of get that same .feeling that you do when you put your foot in a nice hot fireplace. I really don't think that even expresses it totally. Come in and we will go over to the Senior Room 'at B.C. so you can see it for your~ self. But I'm warning you, it is going to be an experience you won't ever forget.
Here at the doorway of the Senior Room, we find some students doing what we call "catchin the flow." In other words watching the changing of the classes. This is an en· joyable passtime for many Sen~
The Spoth9~t
iors at B.C. Don't forget 'now, this is only the beginning. Now that we are in we have a whole other book to 'read. To the left is- located the most treasured, sacred, majestic, honored, object I think the senior's have ever seen in their life. Most people know it as a soda· machine, the seniors like to refer to lit as a "gift from God!" Further left there are all the Senior boys from B,C., about seven, playing a heavy game of cards, Sometimes they start playing ruff and get into almost two or three hands of "Go Fish" ot
once. Towards the center of the room, lined up like birds on a telephone wire are all the senior girls, 9,453,047, ap'" proximately, seated on the couches, Usually every other girl is knitting or crocheting pretending they are making something really cool! Sometimes when we are really lucky for excitement, Mr. Karp will visit us and greet everyone with a pleasant hello, turn down the stereo and take away the boys pacifier, their cards.
Well, I better stop now before you gel luu excited. I know
