Job description Faculty/Directorate: Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Department: English and Modern Languages Title of post: Lecturer in Spanish (Language and Business) Grade of post: 9 Post number: 17527 FT or % P/T: P/T (0.5 FTE) Permanent/Temporary: Permanent Principal location of work: Headington Campus Immediate line manager: HoD English and Modern Languages, Prof. Simon Kövesi Staff managed: none Qualifications required for post: Native or near-native speaker in Spanish, Good Honours Degree in Spanish, or a closely-related discipline Experience required for post: Experience of teaching Spanish at higher education contexts, or equivalent Overall purpose of post: To undertake academic and academic related responsibilities Main duties: 1. To teach students using appropriate instruction methods such as lectures, tutorials, seminars and other formal pedagogic work. 2. To contribute to courses across a range of programmes. 3. To supervise students’ projects and dissertations. 4. To mark and assess students’ work, and to invigilate. 5. To undertake relevant personal and collaborative research, and to undertake other forms of scholarly activity as agreed with and supported by the Department’s and Faculty’s research management teams 6. To contribute to income-generating activities as directed by senior colleagues 7. To contribute to curriculum development work including identification of student requirements, planning, development and evaluation of courses and course materials. 8. To care for the pastoral needs of students by giving them academic counselling and guidance and, where appropriate, guidance on where they may find any further help needed. 9. To contribute collaboratively to education processes including the administration of education and training programmes. 10. Supported by senior colleagues, to participate in the administrative processes of the institution including committee membership, quality assurance procedures, recruitment and admission of students. 11. To participate in staff development and appraisal processes and in-service training.

    Specification Essential Desirable

    1. Education/Training

    Good Honours degree in Spanish or closely related subject area.

    MA in Spanish or closely related discipline PhD in Spanish or a closely-related discipline; or PhD near completion

    2. Relevant Experience

    Experience of teaching Spanish language at undergraduate level. Ability to supervise dissertations.

    Experience of business consultancy in a Spanish-speaking context A proven ability to make a contribution to the MA in International Business, Culture and Languages

    3. Relevant Skills/Aptitudes

    Native or near-native speaker in Spanish Ability to contribute to a range of courses. A willingness to undertake administrative tasks including year abroad tutor. Ability to work in a team. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to contribute to curriculum development.

    4. Special Requirements

    A proven willingness to pursue avenues to secure external funding for personal research and/or consultancy work.

    An interest in innovative learning and teaching methods, including e-learning
