What we’ve been up to……… In EYFS we have been learning the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We are hoping that from our Literacy learning Goldilocks has learnt some manners from watching the video we took of our real tea party! We even learnt how to make real tea and jam sandwiches so don't be surprised when your child asks for a cup at home! To say sorry to the bears we helped Goldilocks follow some instructions to make more porridge to leave at their house but of course we had to taste it first to check that the temperature was 'just right'! In maths we thought about the sequence of events that happened in the story and tried hard to put her day into the correct order. We also had great fun at Boogie Bounce this week where we bounced on small trampolines to music! Reminder - The weather is getting much colder now and the children love to still explore the outside environment. Please make sure that they have appropriate coats, mittens (remember gloves are not the easiest thing to put on independently when you are 4 and 5!) and hats so that they can still enjoy outdoors.

Year 1 have found learning about the journey of an egg, carnivores, herbivores and omnivores really interesting. We’ve sorted animals using a Venn diagram and can explain what they eat. We’ve used our imagination to create menus for carnivores and herbivores, thinking about what delicious foods they like. In Maths we have continued to work out subtraction stories by using ‘part-part-whole’ to help us. We’ve had a go at

writing our own number stories and solving problems involving subtraction. Throughout ICT we have started designing our own cards thinking about the images we will need to find and what message we would like to include. If you can help:- We need clean jam jars for an exciting craft we will be doing leading up to Christmas. If you have any spare at home please pass to your child’s class teacher. Many thanks This week in Year 2 we have continued to be inspired by our topic based on India. We have written poetry about the evil demon king Ravana, describing his appearance and how he moves. We had so much fun at the Hindu temple at the Shorncliffe Barracks and learning about the 3 main Gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. We loved seeing all the Hindu symbols and the shrine to the Gods. In Maths we have started to learn about money, recapping money in pence and learning about money in pounds. We have counted amounts in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s and compared amounts of money using the symbols < > and =. In Art we have been inspired by the patterns seen in Indian clothing and have started to create printing blocks using the patterns we like.

Remembrance Service We were so proud of our School Council and Reception pupils who represented our school in the Kennington remembrance service. We started the service at the memorial with many different groups from the community including The Scouts, cubs, brownies , rainbows and beavers and Kennington Academy and listened to Reverend Eve and others speaking before we heard a man play the last post on the bugle . This was followed with a two minute silence. The children proudly laid the wreath which can be seen by the memorial and collected donations in the church. A huge thank you to all families who attended the service who I’m sure like us felt proud to be part of the Kennington community.

Maths Mastery Meeting Thank you to the small group of parents that came to our workshop yesterday. The parents that came found it informative. It’s a real shame that more parents/carers weren’t able to make it but information about Maths mastery can be found on our website. Thank you to Mr Horne for leading these. Christmas performances As you should be aware we will have 2 performances per year group. We will be sending out ticket requests via parent mail next week and also a letter about costumes which will come via your child so look out in book bags! There will be a crèche available at a cost of £2 per child and we encourage you to use this facility if you have babies or younger siblings. Places will be on a first come first served basis and we will be restricted to numbers based on adult/child ratio.
