Dr. Bhavna Sharma (PhD) is a Senior Scientist- Innovation, supporting the Family Nutrition portfolio at GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare. She is responsible for researching on newer science avenues to support the company’s vision

on leading innovation through science in the areas of Growth in children, bone health, Cognition and energy metabolism. Before this role she was working as Applied Nutrition Specialist at Nestlé R&D Center, India, where she contributed in developing & generating knowledge in the research areas of vitamin D (estimation in foods, supplementation trials etc.), dietary intake & food consumption behavior among Indians (with a focus on children below 12 and pregnant & lactating mothers) and developing micronutrient fortification initiatives for various age groups, where she was also awarded for ‘excellence in NHW leadership role’. Dr. Femke Hannes is a scientist holding a doctoral degree in biomedical sciences focusing on human health. Clinical research and diagnostics have been an area of focus for her for many years. Currently, Dr. Hannes is the regional lead for

nutrition, science and advocacy at DSM nutritional products for the Asia pacific region. In her role, she is responsible for communicating scientific evidence of different health benefits and building a strong network of key influencers in the scientific, medical and clinical research communities. He has obtained his M Tech in Bioprocess Technology and Ph.D (Tech) in Chemical Engineering degree from UDCT (Mumbai University). He has over 10 years of experience in technology development and technology translation with 25 patents. He is recipient of ‘Young Scientist Award in Biochromatography’ from SBCN, France, for cost effective technology in processing of nutraceuticals and biopharmaceuticals. He has guided 26 Masters and 11 PhD students. He has active collaboration with Curtin University, Australia. He is also a principle investigator of projects funded by DBT, RGSTC and various Industries.


Shweta Khandelwal, a nutrition epidemiologist, has a doctorate in nutrition (University of Delhi) and two post-graduation degrees (SNDT Mumbai and LSHTM, UK). She is currently pursuing her Wellcome-DBT Alliance fellowship

(Dec 2015-2019) assessing the role of pre- and post-natal omega-3 supplementation in improving offspring neurodevelopment in India (DHANI trial). At PHFI, Shweta led the development, roll-out and supervision of the online academic initiative in Public Health Nutrition (2010-2014). Her current postgraduate teaching includes courses on public health nutrition, Nutrition epidemiology and Health promotion. As a part of capacity strengthening initiatives, Shweta has been the Course Director of the International Training seminar on Nutrition Epidemiology series for the past several years. Shweta has also served as the Lead, capacity building arm, as a part of the DFID-funded Transform Nutrition project (2011-2015). Shweta has been awarded several other research fellowships and grants in the past including NIH-sponsored D43 postdoctoral fellowship (2010-2012), Dept of Science and Technology’s Young Scientist Award (2013); Wellcome Trust funded Career Development Research Fellowship (2014-2015) and Emerging leader in the area of cardiovascular prevention by the World Heart Federation (2014). Shweta is and has served on expert panels of FSSAI and MoHFW on public nutrition issues. (2015, 2017, 2018). She has contributed about 40 peer reviewed publications. Shweta has been conferred many prestigious awards like the “Significant Contribution Award” from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (Jan 2014), Young Scientist Award 2009 in Experimental Nutrition (by the Nutrition Society of India, NIN), Dr. K.U. Naram Award as well as Dr. Dhirajlal Dhanjibai Shah Memorial Prize for securing first rank in the M.H.Sc. in 2004-2005 from S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai.
