•Maryland’s military installations purchased $6.6 billion in goods and services from state companies. Fort Meade/NSA were the largest contributors to this mix.

•Fort Meade is Maryland’s largest employer and has the 3rd largest workforce of any Army installation in the U.S.

•7.5 % of Maryland’s economic activity is from military installations—Fort Meade, including NSA, comprises half of this activity.

Economic Impact

Compiled from a 2008 Maryland State Department of Business and

Economic Development Study, these numbers have only increased in the

past four years.

How to Get Involved:

•Attend Events – Take advantage of the many free or reduced price events at Fort Meade that are open to the public.

•Volunteer – Whether through the Fort Meade Volunteer Office or the Fort Meade USO, there are many ways to become a part of the Fort Meade community.

•Internships – While still in the development stage, Fort Meade is working to have internships available for high school and college students. Many of Fort Meade’s tenant units also have established college and post-college intern/career training programs.

•Advertise – Because of very specific Department of Defense regulations baring solicitation and endorsement, it is often times hard for the external community to reach the Fort Meade population.

•Family Morale Welfare and Recreation - FMWR is a network of support and leisure services designed to enhance the lives of service members, their families, civilian employees, military retirees and other eligible patrons. There are opportunities for businesses and organizations to promote products or services on Fort Meade through FMWR advertising and sponsorship. www.ftmeademwr.com.

•SoundOff! Newspaper – The SoundOff! is the installation’s weekly newspaper. The content is managed by the Fort Meade Garrison Public Affairs office, but the paper is printed and advertising is arranged through Patuxent Publishing. www.ftmeadesoundoff.com.

•Installation Welcome Guide – Like the newspaper, the yearly installation guide’s content is managed by the Fort Meade Garrison Public Affairs Office, but the guide is printed and advertising is arranged through Comprint Military Publications. www.dcmilitary.com.
