• 1864 McClellan chosen to run against Lincoln by the Democrats

Monumental Events!

• 1863 Was a major year for Union

• July 1-3 Victory at Gettysburg

• July 4 Vicksburg Falls

• Confederacy in major trouble

Grant Takes Command

• Grant took Command of all Union Armies

• Will wage a war of attrition against the South

Total War

• William T. Sherman took Grant’s old command

• Reduce the ability of enemy to fight

“War is Hell”

• Sherman began march through the South

• Captured and burned the ATL in 1864

• March to the Sea • ATL to Savannah

Sherman’s Sentinels
