No street address given but probably Gertrude St, Geelong West as daughters Emma and Robina signed from there.Five children born Ashby 1856 to 1869.Buried with daughter Emma Higgins.
Meakin Street in East Geelong was named after Sarah's brother:Meakin Street commemorates Ald. Henry Meakin, Mayor of Geelong in Queen Victoria’s Jubilee year - 1887. He arrived in Geelong from Derbyshire in 1851 and erected a steam-driven sawmill on the foreshore at Griffins Gully Western Beach. He was better known as a publican, however, and for many years ran the Derby Arms Hotel. Earlier he had used the same name when conducting the hotel which later became the now defunct Albion Hotel - also in Little Malop Street. He was closely associated with public affairs and was a driving force in the removal of the bar at Point Henry. As a mark of recognition for his services in the development of the Hopetoun Channel, the newly constituted Harbor Trust Commissioners in 1906 named a steam hopper barge in his honour.

First name / initials transcribed as M E F - I believe it is M and the other fuzzy scratchings possibly errors . Erasures. No rates entry has been found for this name in Sharp St. [see note below]In 'The Earlier Days of Newtown and Chilwell' C S Walker refers to the purchase by the Council of a block of land running from Russell St through to Sharp St [adjacent to Julien St] which was to be used for a PublicLibrary and Reading Room. Thomas Powell was appointed as the first Librarian and Secretary. The library opened in 1881 and a caretaker's house was subsequently built on the property which was then occupied by Mr Powell as Librarian and Caretaker until his death in 1900.It is possible that the caretaker's house faced Sharp St and as Council property would not be rated. No conclusive issue or shipping traced for Thomas and Mary.
Notes from Susie Zada: from Newtown Heritage Study Review - there was a weatherboard building / house on this land facing Sharp Street although there was also a [later?] caretaker's cottage adjoining the library in Russell Street. [GWST Field Book] Buildings on this land did not appear in most rate books - there was one entry in 1919-20 but as council owned this property it was excempt from council rates.Thomas and Mary had three children born in England - 2 died before they came to Victoria c. 1857

Although Mary only signed as from Geelong the entries following on the petition for Jessie Power and I R [?] Power both from Pakington St are likely to be connected. The next entry for Una Powell may be a mistranscription of Power.
In 'Geelong Region Historic Building and Objects Study' Volume 3 on page 329 in reference to Rannoch House on N-E corner Pakington and Skene Sts is stated '22 January 1880, let to Mrs Power of Melbourne' There is no indication though that this links with Mary.

Entry clearly shows Mrs, therefore details in BDM Index showing father as Thomas PRISCOTT and mother unknown may be incorrect.
BDM Index also shows death of William PRISCOTT in 1890 aged 80 in Colac, s/o Thomas. It is possible that Mary Ann was the wife of William and not the daughter of Thomas.
1861 Directory: William PRISCOTT, Committee, Colac Agricultural Society and also on the Road Board
Info from Colac group:It is believed that Mary Ann's maiden name was WIDLAKE, as her will left her estate to her three brothers in England, all of whom were called WIDLAKE. She was born in Devon and the three brothers lived in that area.
As she was childless and lived with Mrs HERON, a fellow Methodist who also signed the petition, it is possible that the maiden name entered on the death certificate was a mistake. The PRISCOTTs (also known locally as PRESCOTT) had arrived in Colac in the late 1850s.
Mary made her mark when "signing" her will in May 1891.
