ute to peace in the world.

Christians may live the Gospel, giving witness to faith,
honesty and love of neighbor.

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 30 & 31, 2016
Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:21-23 All things are vanity!
Psalm 90 “If today you hear his voice, harden not your
hearts.”
Colossians 3:1-5, 9-11 In Christ you have died. In Christ you have
been raised up.
Luke 12:13-21 Avoid greed in all its form.
In a rare Ordinary Time confluence, all three readings counsel us not to focus on things of
the world. The first reading calls all such things “vanities.” Saint Paul tells us to think of
what is above, for Christ is all in all. And Jesus urges us to be rich in “what matters to
God.” As we listen to these reading today, let us try to hear what God is telling us about
what really matters.
Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Wisdom 18:6-9 (117C)
Psalm 33:1, 12,18-192020-22
Hebrew 11:1-2, 8-9 oe 11:1-2,8-122
Luke 12:32-48 or 12:35-40

Remember us in your Will!!!
Our Lady of Good Counsel is extremely grateful to those
individuals who have made or have expressed an intention
to make a gift to our future ministries in their will. Such
a gift is among the most far reaching and valuable
contributions a parishioner can make, directly benefitting
the future mission and ministries of our parish and school.
If you are considering leaving your gift as a will or
bequest to the parish and would like additional
information, please contact our office at (808) 455-3012
Last week, I advocated that we NOT talk with our closest loved
ones about our faith when we are upset or feeling hurt or guilty,
etc...That said, there are times when we should use words. These
moments are sort of hard to describe, yet we have all experience
them. I call them “sacred ground” moments.
Sacred ground moments are those wonderful times when we feel
God everywhere, literally everywhere - when we feel God inside
us and that the person we are talking with is genuinely open to our
conversation and we are completely open to them and are just
filled with an abundance of love. These are moments we just
KNOW that God is using us and using our words and
that nothing we say will be misinterpreted because, well, we are
on sacred ground with our loved one right then. You have had
moments like this too, yes?
Granted these moments tend to be rare. Maybe that is how God
intended it?!
Given that we have literally thousands of interactions with our
closest loved ones every month, maybe it is okay that most of the
time we serve ourl loved ones best by being Christ’s hands, ears,
and feet instead of his mouthpiece.
