1941 Millvale Football Team The 1941 Millvale High School Football Team is the only team from any of the Shaler Area merged district to win a WPIAL championship. Colleen Geyer

Shaler-Class of 1972

Colleen’s athletic prowess is clearly evident in her accomplishments as an athlete as well as her success as a coach. At Shaler High School, she earned varsity letters in swimming as a sophomore and a senior, and she won the 1971 WPIAL Medley Relay. Colleen was a varsity cheerleader for three years and also ran track. Colleen attended Slippery Rock University where she swam for three years and competed on the water polo team. In her current occupation as a physical education teacher and varsity tennis coach at Hampton High School, her coaching accomplishments include five girls tennis section championships, five boys tennis section championships, and one WPIAL girls tennis championship. Colleen continues to personally compete

in many different sports. She won medals in ping-pong, tennis, swimming, running, and volleyball at the PA Senior Olympic trials and won a gold medal in the 200 freestyle and a bronze in the 500 freestyle at the 2005 Senior Olympic Games. Colleen won four events in the 2005 Masters Swim Meet where she broke records in three of these events by at least 21 seconds. In tennis, she won the 2004 West Virginia Open competing in both singles and doubles, and she is ranked in the Professional Tennis Registry as a teaching pro.

John Kuzniewski

Shaler- Class of 1961

John earned an amazing nine varsity letters at Shaler High School. His individual honors include winning two section wrestling titles and on e WPIAL wrestling title. He also anchored the second place mile relay team at the state meet and distinguished himself on the football field. John received a scholarship to play football at Purdue University where he co-captained the freshmen football team in 1961. At Purdue, he armed three varsity football letters and was the team’s leading rusher in 1963. In 1965, John was the Big 10 scoring leader and a participant in the North South Shrine Game. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL and the Buffalo Bills of the AFL. John passed away as a result of Lou

Gehrig’s Disease and is survived by his wife Dee and his children John and Tracy as well as his mother and brother.

Rich Massucci Coach

Shaler-Class of 1965

Rich has distinguished himself as both an athlete and a coach. At Shaler High School, he earned three varsity letters in football and wrestling and two letters in track. Rich attended Edinboro University where he was awarded two varsity letters in wrestling. As a Shaler Area Varsity Softball Coach, Rich’s teams compiled an amazing 99-47-2 record. More importantly, these teams won two section championships, and the 2004 PIAA state

championship. Rich’s 2005 team was the PIAA state runner-up.

Troy Letters

Shaler Area- Class of 2001

Troy overwhelmingly dominated his opponents on the wrestling mat since he began his wrestling career as a freshmen. His Shaler Area wrestling accomplishments include being a four year varsity letter winner, a four time section champion, a four time WPIAL champion, and a two time PIAA state champion. Troy was also undefeated in dual meets and twice won the Beast of the East Tournament. He was also inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Troy’s wrestling success continued at Lehigh University where he was a three time All-American and conference champion. Troy also won a NCAA national championship and was named Lehigh’s outstanding wrestler in 2003 and

2004 and Lehigh’s best overall athlete in 2005.
