A new course

• The Hungarian events of 1989 are well known, and they from personal experiences for many people. Some directly and some indirectly, but we all have been a part of the inland and foreign political events, as this was the year in which Europe and Hungary took a new course, and the unimaginable happened.

• On 27 June, the government of the People’s Republic of Hungary tore down the Iron Curtain that separated the country from Western Europe. On 10 September, despite protests from the official leadership of East Germany, the country’s borders were opened to East German citizens yearning for freedom, and allowed them to travel to West Germany.
