19th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle C) A Sunday Reflection

One of our greatest fears is the fear of the unknown, the uncertainty of the future. Who among us can say that he or she lives without a care, never fretting, never wondering what will happen? Perhaps our greatest fear is old age, illness, death.

The Lord invites us today to abandon fear, for “the Father is pleased to give you the Kingdom” (Lk 12:32). At the same time, he counsels us to be vigilant, to be prepared for the master’s coming. How are we to prepare? By generously giving of our belongings, our treasure, ourselves. To remember that we should keep our treasure in heaven, for “where your treasure is, there also will your heart be” (12:34).

What do we possess that is not given to us by God? Keep in mind how generous the Lord has been with us, and be generous in using his gifts, for “much will be required of the one entrusted with much” (12:48). God bless you.

Fr.

The Assumption of Mary ALL THE FEAST DAYS OF MARY mark the great mysteries of her life and her part in

the work of redemption. The central mystery of her life and person is her divine motherhood. The Assumption completes God's work in her since it was not fitting that the flesh that had given life to God himself should ever undergo corruption.

Even though the Assumption of Mary was not declared a dogma until 1950, the Church has held this teaching sacred from her earliest centuries.

By the fifth and sixth centuries, the Eastern rites of the Church developed liturgies to the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrating her Assumption in Egypt and Syria. In the middle of the fifth century, the feast of the Anapausis (“fallen asleep) or Dormition of the Mother of God began to be celebrated in a basilica near Jerusalem which tradition taught held her tomb and final resting place. By the end of the sixth century, this feast had spread throughout the Eastern Empire and was to be celebrated on August 15.

The tradition of the Dormition of Mary made its way to France in the sixth century and was celebrated on January 18. During the pontificate of Pope Sergius I in the late seventh century, the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God was commonly celebrated and eventually became known in the West as the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. By the twelfth century, this teaching was accepted and celebrated in the universal Church in both the East and West. In 1950, in the Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus, Pope Pius XII proclaimed the Assumption of Mary a dogma of the Catholic Church in these words: "The Immaculate Mother of God, the ever-virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heaven."

The Marian dogmas do not take away from our relationship with Jesus Christ. Knowing them will only increase and strengthen our relationship with our Lord each day. If you want to get to know a person, spend time with his mother. This is exactly what we need to do with the Blessed Virgin Mary. The more time we spend with her and learn about her, the more we will come to know and love Jesus.

The Blesseds /Los Beatos BLESSED JÓZEF PUCHALA (+ 1943) — Polish

Franciscan. After studying in the minor seminary in Lviv, Ukraine, he entered the Conventual Franciscans, receiving the religious name Achilles. Ordained a priest in 1936, he served in friaries in Grodno and Iwiniec, Poland. He was transferred to the parish in Piaršai, (in modern-day Belarus), to help care for the parishioners suffering from a shortage of priests brought on by the Nazi’s roundup of clergy and religious.

Father Achilles was arrested and tortured by the Nazis before being shot to death on July 19, 1943, in a barn near the town of Borovikovshchina. Murdered with

him was another Conventual Franciscan, Father Herman Stepian, who had also been serving in the parish at Piaršai. Father Achilles was beatified with Father Herman and 106 other Martyrs of the Second World War in 1999.

The Pope Speaks / Habla el Papa

Catechesis on the Our Father, March 20, 2019

God wants us to be free; his love frees us. Indeed, the “Our Father” is the prayer of children, not of slaves; but of

children who know their father’s heart and are certain of his loving plan…. it is a prayer that is filled with ardent trust

in God who wants good, life and salvation for us. A courageous, even militant prayer, because there are many,

too many realities in the world that are not in accordance with God’s plan. We all know them. Paraphrasing the

prophet Isaiah, we could say: “Here, Father, there is war, abuse of power, exploitation; but we know that you want

our good. You want our good, therefore we implore you: thy will be done! Lord, overturn the world’s plans, transform swords into plowshares and spears into

pruning hooks: so that no one may learn the art of war any more” (cf. 2:4). God wants peace. ”.

(cf. 2, 4).

Teachers will be returning to school this week to attend workshops and to get their rooms ready for the students. We would like to wish them a great school year full of learning and growth.

A Prayer for Our Principal, Teachers and Staff

Heavenly Father, we thank You for these men and women who lead our schools. We ask

You, Father, that You would give them words filled with grace. May their words be words that

are helpful, for building others up according to their needs.

Father, we pray that You fill them with your strength so that they can keep going no matter

what, always full of joy of the Lord and always thankful.

Father, we pray that these men and women may walk in a manner worthy of the God who

calls them to their important positions.

Let each of these men and women be a "Collector". May they find time to walk through the

halls of the school giving a hug or a reassuring smile to a child.

Look upon these leaders. Let them strive to share their knowledge with gentle patience and

endeavor always to bring the truth to eager minds.

Grant that they may follow Jesus Christ, the way, the truth, and the life, for ever and ever.

Amen.
