This will be open to all boys 18 years and under as if Oct. 1, 1945, who have not nade a letter in varsity or "B" ootball. The .contest will decide who the best for his age in the art of kicking,, passing and re- ceiving a football, and the four ligh scorers in each of the three age divisions will be eligible to represent the City of Torrance at Daniel's Field in San Ppdro on Saturday, Oct. 13 to decide the champion for the entire Har- bor Area. Certificates will be issued to the champions at the San Pedro 'ent. For the local contest, members of the Hi-Y Club will act as officials by judging and scoring the different events. I must confess that boxing has been my favorite sport for many years and I expect to see al that Hairy has to offer at his sock arena. I expect to see youngsters that have had enough training to qualify them to show. I am presuming that Harry Harrii personally sees to it that those who do not belong in the fighl game are soon weeded out. That he discourages the boys who arc inclined to take too many by this I mean that he will nol permit them to go on his card if after a fair trial they fail to develop some sort of defense. Amateur boxing is a "rugged game and the pace is usually much faster than that set by the jjros. Only the promoters in terested in the boys' welfare will carefully match these scraps. A few years ago, while active boxing, I discovered professional has-beens fighting in the ama- teurs against green boys, many of whom were punch-drunk be- fore offering "for hire." Many in this area join me 'in wishing Harry Harris lots of luck in this "novice" tournament and hope he exercises all of his experiences in matching these kids. Records indicate that champions are developed that way. This corker was a pitcher's duel from the first ball. Martin took the mound to hurl the TAC to a 3-2 victory in the 10 inn- ings necessary to subdue the Ellbeos. He allowed six hits and ran up an amazing score of 16 strlke-outs with the best curve ball seen in this park for many months. Ervie Pallca rejoined the Tor- rance Club after playing all sea- son In a Piedmont league and thrilled the fans with know-how baseball. Don' Cottle turned In a nice performance at second base, put- ting the game on Ice when he tripled in the tenth with Kuhn on first base. Cottle, who has been sour at the bat in the last two games, got his first hit in this Inning by smacking the first ball pitched high to center field for his triple.     Torrance baseball fans got a chance last Sunday to witness one of the best games played at Torrance park, between the Tor- rance Athletic Club and the Long Beach Ellbees.

    This corker was a pitcher's duel from the first ball. Martin took the mound to hurl the TAC to a 3-2 victory in the 10 inn- ings necessary to subdue the Ellbeos. He allowed six hits and ran up an amazing score of 16 strlke-outs with the best curve ball seen in this park for many months.

    Ervie Pallca rejoined the Tor- rance Club after playing all sea- son In a Piedmont league and thrilled the fans with know-how baseball.

    Don' Cottle turned In a nice performance at second base, put- ting the game on Ice when he tripled in the tenth with Kuhn on first base. Cottle, who has been sour at the bat in the last two games, got his first hit in this Inning by smacking the first ball pitched high to center field for his triple.
