What are the inherent problems in framing a tight close-up of a face or head in a wide-screen aspect ratio?

The head seems to be glued to the upper screen edge.

You need to leave some headroom to counteract the magnetic pull of the upper of the upper screen edge.

You can learn more about the pull of the top edge of a frame by studying a painting of old masters

Page 3: 2 Dimensions: Ch 7,8,9 Teams 1

No Headroom

Without headroom the attraction of the upper screen edge pulls the head firmly against it.

Proper Headroom

To counteract the pull of the upper screen edge, you must leave enough headroom.

In using a still computer graphic to advertise a new snowboard design, would you show the snowboarder cutting

through powder on a lower-left-to upper-right slant or an upper-left to lower-right slant? Why?

Upper left to lower-right because the way the picture is tilted draws the eye in the direction its going. The downhill vector makes the eye perceive the object to be in motion.

How do the major graphic depth cues operate when defining the z-axis?

1. Overlapping planes2. Relative size3. Height in plane4. Linear perspective5. Aerial perspective
