    1/2

Step A.. Locate an Appropriate Business that has an appropriate Information Systems

    Need

Locate a business that is willing to have you do a system analysis on some portion

    of his or her company

    '

s information-processing system. You will be evaluating this companys needs and assisting them with the design

or improvement of an Information Technology solution.

You DO NOT have to create or implement the solution in this class, what we are

doing here is all the systems and analysis work prior to the development and

    implementation of the solution.

Be aware that the problem you target is an information processthat needs to be

developed or improved. This improvement may involvesome hardware or

network upgrades but this project cannot SOLELY be a HARDWARE solution.

(so make sure the business you are choosing to work with has the type of

information system need fitting the requirements of this class)

The business needs to have at least 3 employees (they do not all have to be full-

    time personnel).

Step C.. Research and write a one page report containing the details of the

company/business you will be working with.

Why are we doing this first? In this class, and likely in real life, you will be acting as a

consultant within a business. It is of the utmost importance that you understand theclimate/working environment of the business you are stepping into. You need to have a working

knowledge of the decision makers in the business. In addition, you need to understand who thisbusiness serves and who their customer is. What their mission is and what level of profit they

generate. (for example you probably should not propose a one million dollar IT solution to a

business whos gross annual profit is 50k or in another example you could accidentally ruffle one

decision makers feathers by accidentally going above them (to their boss) with a proposal

ideasome businesses follow chain of command very seriously and you can quite easily lose aclients business with a mistake like that). SO get to know your customer and their business as

best you can from the beginning!

Provide a detailed reporting of each of the following items:

    Company Name

    Companys mission statement

(for a small company it might be their (motto/slogan))

    Company Location

    Company Size

Product(s) produced and/or Service(s) rendered Gross Annual Sales or Revenues

(if they consider this to be proprietary ask for an approximate figure)

    Number of Customers or Clients

    Organization Chart

(at a minimum your chart needs to show all lateral personnel you would beworking with as well as one and two levels of decision makers superior to your

    role)

(you can use the drawing tools in Word or use the organization chart tools in

PowerPoint or another software of your choosing to generate this chart)

(no matter what software you use MAKE SURE the chart is part of (pasted into)

your one page reportI do not want to have to open a second file in order to seeyour org. chart))

Step D.. REMINDER!! In this report Do NOT tell me about the Information System

PROBLEM you plan to fix. That will be your next assignment.

Thisassignment focuses solely on the details and specs of the

business/company you will be working with for this class project.
