1:1Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. 1:2Ahaziah felldown through the lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria,and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said to them, o, in!uireof "aal #ebub, the god of $kron, whether I shall reco%er of thissickness. 1:&"ut the angel of 'ahweh said to $li(ah the )ishbite, Arise,go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and tell them,Is it because there is no od in Israel, that *ou go to in!uire of "aal#ebub, the god of $kron+ 1:-ow therefore thus sa*s 'ahweh, 'ou

belt of leather about his loins. e said, It is $li(ah the )ishbite. 1:4)henthe kingsent to him a captain of fift* with his fift*. e went up to him:and, behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. e spoke to him,man of od, the king has said, 5ome down. 1:16$li(ah answered to thecaptain of fift*, If I be a man of od, let fire come down from the sk*,and consume *ou and *our fift*. 7ire came down from the sk*, andconsumed him and his fift*. 1:11Again he sent to him another captainof fift* and his fift*. e answered him, man of od, thus has the kingsaid, 5ome down !uickl*. 1:12$li(ah answered them, If I be a man of

od, let fire come down from the sk*, and consume *ou and *ourfift*. )he fire of od came down from the sk*, and consumed him andhis fift*. 1:1&Again he sent the captain of a third fift* with his fift*. )hethird captain of fift* went up, and came and fell on his knees before$li(ah, and begged him, and said to him, man of od, please let m*life, and the life of these fift* *our ser%ants, be precious in *our sight.1:1"ehold, fire came down from the sk*, and consumed the two

former captains of fift* with their fifties8 but now let m* life be preciousin *our sight. 1:1)he angel of 'ahweh said to $li(ah, o down withhim: don9t be afraid of him. e arose, and went down with him to theking. 1:10e said to him, )hus sa*s 'ahweh, "ecause *ou ha%e sentmessengers to in!uire of "aal #ebub, the god of $kron, is it becausethere is no od in Israel to in!uire of his word+ therefore *ou shall notcome down from the bed where *ou are gone up, but shall surel* die.1:1So he died according to the word of 'ahweh which $li(ah hadspoken. ehoram began to reign in his place in the second *ear ofehoram the son of ehoshaphat king of udah8 because he had noson. 1:13-ow the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, aren9t the*written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel+

2:1It happened, when 'ahweh would take up $li(ah b* a whirlwind into

hea%en, that $li(ah went with $lisha from ilgal.2:2

taken from *ou. $lisha said, please let a double portion of *our spiritbe on me. 2:16e said, 'ou ha%e asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if*ou see me when I am taken from *ou, it shall be so to *ou8 but if not,it shall not be so. 2:11It happened, as the* still went on, and talked,that behold, there appeareda chariot of fire, and horses of fire, whichparted them both apart8 and $li(ah went up b* a whirlwind intohea%en. 2:12$lisha saw it, and he cried, M* father, m* father, thechariots of Israel and the horsemen of it> e saw him no more: andhe took hold of his own clothes, and tore them in two pieces. 2:1&etook up also the mantle of $li(ah that fell from him, and went back,and stood b* the bank of the ordan. 2:1e took the mantle of $li(ahthat fell from him, and struck the waters, and said, /here is 'ahweh,the od of $li(ah+ and when he also had struck the waters, the* weredi%ided here and there8 and $lisha went o%er. 2:1/hen the sons of

the prophets who were at ericho o%er against him saw him, the*said, )he spirit of $li(ah does rest on $lisha. )he* came to meet him,and bowed themsel%es to the ground before him. 2:10)he* said to him,See now, there are with *our ser%ants fift* strong men8 let them go,we pra* *ou, and seek *our master, lest the Spirit of 'ahweh hastaken him up, and cast him on some mountain, or into some %alle*.e said, 'ou shall not send. 2:1/hen the* urged him until he wasashamed, he said, Send. )he* sent therefore fift* men8 and the*sought three da*s, but didn9t find him. 2:13)he* came back to him,while he sta*ed at ericho8 and he said to them,

fortified cit*, and e%er* choice cit*, and shall fell e%er* good tree, andstop all springs of water, and mar e%er* good piece of land withstones. &:26It happened in the morning, about the time of offering theoffering, that behold, there came water b* the wa* of $dom, and thecountr* was filled with water. &:21-ow when all the Moabites heard thatthe kings had come up to fight against them, the* gatheredthemsel%es together, all who were able to put on armor, and upward,and stood on the border. &:22)he* rose up earl* in the morning, andthe sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water o%eragainst them as red as blood: &:2&and the* said, )his is blood8 thekings are surel* destro*ed, and the* ha%e struck each man his fellow:now therefore, Moab, to the spoil. &:2/hen the* came to the camp ofIsrael, the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that the* fledbefore them8 and the* went forward into the land smiting the

Moabites. &:2)he* beat down the cities8 and on e%er* good piece ofland the* cast e%er* man his stone, and filled it8 and the* stopped allthe springs of water, and felled all the good trees, until in @ir aresethonly the* left the stones of it8 howe%er the men armed with slingswent about it, and struck it. &:20/hen the king of Moab saw that thebattle was too se%ere for him, he took with him se%en hundred menwho drew sword, to break through to the king of $dom8 but the* couldnot. &:2)hen he took his eldest son who would ha%e reigned in hisplace, and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. )here wasgreat wrath against Israel: and the* departed from him, and returnedto their own land.

:1-ow there cried a certain woman of the wi%es of the sons of theprophets to $lisha, sa*ing, 'our ser%ant m* husband is dead8 and*ou know that *our ser%ant did fear 'ahweh: and the creditor is cometo take to him m* two children to be bondser%ants. :2$lisha said toher, /hat shall I do for *ou+ tell me8 what ha%e *ou in the house+She said, 'our handmaid has nothing in the house, eBcept a pot ofoil. :&)hen he said, o, borrow *ou %essels abroad of all *our

neighbors, e%en empt* %essels8 borrow not a few.:

'ou shall go in,and shut the door on *ou and on *our sons, and pour out into allthose %essels8 and *ou shall set aside that which is full. :So shewent from him, and shut the door on her and on her sons8 the*brought the vesselsto her, and she poured out. :0It happened, whenthe %essels were full, that she said to her son, "ring me *et a %essel.e said to her, )here isn9t another %essel. )he oil sta*ed. :)hen she

came and told the man of od. e said, o, sell the oil, and pa* *ourdebt, and li%e *ou and *our sons of the rest. :3It fell on a da*, that$lisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman8 and sheconstrained him to eat bread. So it was, that as often as he passedb*, he turned in there to eat bread. :4She said to her husband, Seenow, I percei%e that this is a hol* man of od, that passes b* uscontinuall*. :16Cet us make, ;lease, a little chamber on the wall8 andlet us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a seat, and a lampstand: and it shall be, when he comes to us, that he shall turn inthere. :11It fell on a da*, that he came there, and he turned into thechamber and la* there. :12e said to ehazi his ser%ant, 5all thisShunammite. /hen he had called her, she stood before him. :1&esaid to him, Sa* now to her, "ehold, *ou ha%e been careful for uswith all this care8 what is to be done for *ou+ would *ou be spoken for

She said, -o, m* lord, *ou man of od, do notlie to *our handmaid. :1)he woman concei%ed, and bore a son atthat season, when the time came round, as $lisha had said to her.:13/hen the child was grown, it fell on a da*, that he went out to hisfather to the reapers. :14e said to his father, M* head, m* head. esaid to his ser%ant, 5arr* him to his mother. :26/hen he had takenhim, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees until noon,and then died. :21She went up and laid him on the bed of the man ofod, and shut the dooron him, and went out. :22She called to herhusband, and said, ;lease send me one of the ser%ants, and one ofthe donke*s, that I ma* run to the man of od, and come again.:2&e said, /h* will *ou go to him toda*+ it is neither new moon norSabbath. She said, It shall be well. :2)hen she saddled a donke*,and said to her ser%ant, =ri%e, and go forward8 don9t slacken me the

riding, eBcept I bid *ou. :2So she went, and came to the man of odto Mount 5armel. It happened, when the man of od saw her afar off,that he said to ehazi his ser%ant, "ehold, *onder is theShunammite: :20please run now to meet her, and ask her, Is it wellwith *ou+ is it well with *our husband+ is it well with the child+ Sheanswered, It is well. :2/hen she came to the man of od to the hill,she caught hold of his feet. ehazi came near to thrust her awa*8 but

the man of od said, Cet her alone: for her soul is %eBed within her8and 'ahweh has hid it from me, and has not told me. :23)hen shesaid, =id I desire a son of m* lord+ =idn9t I sa*, =o not decei%e me+:24)hen he said to ehazi, ird up *our loins, and take m* staff in*our hand, and go *our wa*: if *ou meet an* man, =on9t greet him8and if an*one greets *ou, don9t answer him again: and la* m* staff onthe face of the child. :&6)he mother of the child said, As 'ahwehli%es, and as *our soul li%es, I will not lea%e *ou. e arose, andfollowed her. :&1ehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff onthe face of the child8 but there was neither %oice, nor hearing.)herefore he returned to meet him, and told him, sa*ing, )he childhas not awakened. :&2/hen $lisha was come into the house, behold,the child was dead, and laid on his bed. :&&e went in therefore, andshut the door on them both, and pra*ed to 'ahweh. :&e went up,

and la* on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, and his e*es onhis e*es, and his hands on his hands: and he stretched himself onhim8 and the flesh of the child grew warm. :&)hen he returned, andwalked in the house once back and forth8 and went up, and stretchedhimself on him: and the child sneezed se%en times, and the childopened his e*es. :&0e called ehazi, and said, 5all thisShunammite. So he called her. /hen she was come in to him, hesaid, )ake up *our son. :&)hen she went in, and fell at his feet, andbowed herself to the ground8 and she took up her son, and went out.:&3$lisha came again to ilgal. )here was a dearth in the land8 andthe sons of the prophets were sitting before him8 and he said to hisser%ant, Set on the great pot, and boil stew for the sons of theprophets. :&4ne went out into the field to gather herbs, and found awild %ine, and gathered of it wild gourds his lap full, and came andshred them into the pot of stew8 for the* didn9t recognize them. :6Sothe* poured out for the men to eat. It happened, as the* were eatingof the stew, that the* cried out, and said, man of od, there is deathin the pot. )he* could not eat of it. :1"ut he said, )hen bring meal.e cast it into the pot8 and he said, ;our out for the people, that the*

ma* eat. )here was no harm in the pot. :2)here came a man from"aal Shalishah, and brought the man of od bread of the first fruits,twent* loa%es of barle*, and fresh ears of grain in his sack. e said,i%e to the people, that the* ma* eat. :&is ser%ant said, /hat,should I set this before a hundred men+ "ut he said, i%e the people,that the* ma* eat8 for thus sa*s 'ahweh, )he* shall eat, and shall

and all his compan*, and came, and stood before him8 and he said,See now, I know that there is no od in all the earth, but in Israel:now therefore, please take a present from *our ser%ant. :10"ut hesaid, As 'ahweh li%es, before whom I stand, I will recei%e none. eurged him to take it8 but he refused. :1-aaman said, If not, *et,please let there be gi%en to *our ser%ant two mules9 burden of earth8for *our ser%ant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering norsacrifice to other gods, but to 'ahweh. :13In this thing 'ahweh pardon*our ser%ant: when m* master goes into the house of Dimmon toworship there, and he leans on m* hand, and I bow m*self in thehouse of Dimmon, when I bow m*self in the house of Dimmon,'ahweh pardon *our ser%ant in this thing. :14e said to him, o inpeace. So he departed from him a little wa*. :26"ut ehazi theser%ant of $lisha the man of od, said, "ehold, m* master has

spared this -aaman the S*rian, in not recei%ing at his hands thatwhich he brought: as 'ahweh li%es, I will run after him, and takesomewhat of him. :21So ehazi followed after -aaman. /hen-aaman saw one running after him, he alighted from the chariot tomeet him, and said, Is all well+ :22e said, All is well. M* master hassent me, sa*ing, "ehold, e%en now there are come to me from thehill?countr* of $phraim two *oung men of the sons of the prophets8please gi%e them a talent of sil%er, and two changes of clothing.:2&-aaman said, "e pleased to take two talents. e urged him, andbound two talents of sil%er in two bags, with two changes of clothing,and laid them on two of his ser%ants8 and the* bore them before him.:2/hen he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, andbestowed them in the house8 and he let the men go, and the*departed. :2"ut he went in, and stood before his master. $lisha saidto him, /hence come *ou, ehazi+ e said, 'our ser%ant went nowhere. :20e said to him, =idn9t m* heart go with *ou, when the manturned from his chariot to meet *ou+ Is it a time to recei%e mone*,and to recei%e garments, and oli%e gro%es and %ine*ards, and sheepand oBen, and men?ser%ants and maid?ser%ants+ :2)he lepros*

therefore of -aaman shall clea%e to *ou, and to *our seed fore%er.e went out from his presence a leper as whiteas snow.

0:1)he sons of the prophets said to $lisha, See now, the place wherewe dwell before *ou is too strait for us. 0:2Cet us go, we pra* *ou, tothe ordan, and take there e%er* man a beam, and let us make us aplace there, where we ma* dwell. e answered, o *ou. 0:&ne said,

"e pleased, I pra* *ou, to go with *our ser%ants. e answered, I willgo. 0:So he went with them. /hen the* came to the ordan, the* cutdown wood. 0:"ut as one was felling a beam, the aBe head fell intothe water8 and he cried, and said, Alas, m* master> for it wasborrowed. 0:0)he man of od said, /here fell it+ e shown him theplace. e cut down a stick, and cast it in there, and made the iron toswim. 0:e said, )ake it up to *ou. So he put out his hand, and tookit. 0:3-ow the king of S*ria was warring against Israel8 and he tookcounsel with his ser%ants, sa*ing, In such and such a place shall bem* camp. 0:4)he man of od sent to the king of Israel, sa*ing,"eware that *ou not pass such a place8 for there the S*rians arecoming down. 0:16)he king of Israel sent to the place which the man ofod told him and warned him of8 and he sa%ed himself there, notonce nor twice. 0:11)he heart of the king of S*ria was sore troubled for

this thing8 and he called his ser%ants, and said to them, /on9t *oushow me which of us is for the king of Israel+ 0:12ne of his ser%antssaid, -o, m* lord, king8 but $lisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tellsthe king of Israel the words that *ou speak in *our bedchamber. 0:1&esaid, o and see where he is, that I ma* send and get him. It wastold him, sa*ing, "ehold, he is in =othan. 0:1)herefore sent he therehorses, and chariots, and a great host: and the* came b* night, andsurrounded the cit*. 0:1/hen the ser%ant of the man of od was risenearl*, and gone forth, behold, a host with horses and chariots wasround about the cit*. is ser%ant said to him, Alas, m* master> howshall we do+ 0:10e answered, =on9t be afraid8 for those who are withus are more than those who are with them. 0:1$lisha pra*ed, andsaid, 'ahweh, ;lease open his e*es, that he ma* see. 'ahwehopened the e*es of the *oung man8 and he saw: and, behold, themountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about $lisha.0:13/hen the* came down to him, $lisha pra*ed to 'ahweh, and said,;lease smite this people with blindness. e struck them withblindness according to the word of $lisha. 0:14$lisha said to them, )hisis not the wa*, neither is this the cit*: follow me, and I will bring *ou to

the man whom *ou seek. e led them to Samaria. 0:26It happened,when the* were come into Samaria, that $lisha said, 'ahweh, openthe e*es of these men, that the* ma* see. 'ahweh opened theire*es, and the* saw8 and, behold, the* were in the midst of Samaria.0:21)he king of Israel said to $lisha, when he saw them, M* father,shall I strike them+ shall I strike them+ 0:22e answered, 'ou shall notstrike them: would *ou strike those whom *ou ha%e taken capti%e with

*our sword and with *our bow+ set bread and water before them, thatthe* ma* eat and drink, and go to their master. 0:2&e prepared greatpro%ision for them8 and when the* had eaten and drunk, he sent themawa*, and the* went to their master. )he bands of S*ria came nomore into the land of Israel. 0:2It happened after this, that "enhadadking of S*ria gathered all his host, and went up, and besiegedSamaria. 0:2)here was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, the*besieged it, until a donke*9s head was sold for eight* piecesof sil%er,and the fourth part of a kab of do%e9s dung for fi%e piecesof sil%er.0:20As the king of Israel was passing b* on the wall, there cried awoman to him, sa*ing, elp, m* lord, king. 0:2e said, If 'ahwehdoesn9t help *ou, whence shall I help *ou+ out of the threshing floor,or out of the winepress+ 0:23)he king said to her, /hat ails *ou+ Sheanswered, )his woman said to me, i%e *our son, that we ma* eat

him toda*, and we will eat m* son tomorrow. 0:24So we boiled m* son,and ate him: and I said to her on the neBt da*, i%e *our son, that wema* eat him8 and she has hid her son. 0:&6It happened, when the kingheard the words of the woman, that he tore his clothes Enow he waspassing b* on the wallF8 and the people looked, and, behold, he hadsackcloth within on his flesh. 0:&1)hen he said, od do so to me, andmore also, if the head of $lisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on himthis da*. 0:&2"ut $lisha was sitting in his house, and the elders weresitting with him8 and the kingsent a man from before him: but beforethe messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See *ou how thisson of a murderer has sent to take awa* m* head+ behold, when themessenger comes, shut the door, and hold the door fast against him:isn9t the sound of his master9s feet behind him+ 0:&&/hile he was *ettalking with them, behold, the messenger came down to him: and hesaid, "ehold, this e%il is of 'ahweh8 wh* should I wait for 'ahweh an*longer+

:1$lisha said, ear *ou the word of 'ahweh: thus sa*s 'ahweh,)omorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be soldfor a

shekel, and two measures of barle* for a shekel, in the gate ofSamaria. :2)hen the captain on whose hand the king leanedanswered the man of od, and said, "ehold, if 'ahweh should makewindows in hea%en, might this thing be+ e said, "ehold, *ou shallsee it with *our e*es, but shall not eat of it. :&-ow there were fourleprous men at the entrance of the gate: and the* said one toanother, /h* sit we here until we die+ :If we sa*, /e will enter into

the cit*, then the famine is in the cit*, and we shall die there8 and ifwe sit still here, we die also. -ow therefore come, and let us fall tothe host of the S*rians: if the* sa%e us ali%e, we shall li%e8 and if the*kill us, we shall but die. :)he* rose up in the twilight, to go to thecamp of the S*rians8 and when the* were come to the outermost partof the camp of the S*rians, behold, there was no man there. :07or theCord had made the host of the S*rians to hear a noise of chariots,and a noise of horses, e%en the noise of a great host: and the* saidone to another, "ehold, the king of Israel has hired against us thekings of the ittites, and the kings of the $g*ptians, to come on us.:)herefore the* arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, andtheir horses, and their donke*s, e%en the camp as it was, and fled fortheir life. :3/hen these lepers came to the outermost part of thecamp, the* went into one tent, and ate and drink, and carried there

sil%er, and gold, and clothing, and went and hid it8 and the* cameback, and entered into another tent, and carried there also, and wentand hid it. :4)hen the* said one to another, /e aren9t doing right.)his da* is a da* of good news, and we hold our peace: if we waituntil the morning light, punishment will o%ertake us8 now thereforecome, let us go and tell the king9s household. :16So the* came andcalled to the porter of the cit*8 and the* told them, sa*ing, /e cameto the camp of the S*rians, and, behold, there was no man there,neither %oice of man, but the horses tied, and the donke*s tied, andthe tents as the* were. :11e called the porters8 and the* told it to theking9s household within. :12)he king arose in the night, and said to hisser%ants, I will now show *ou what the S*rians ha%e done to us. )he*know that we are hungr*8 therefore are the* gone out of the camp tohide themsel%es in the field, sa*ing, /hen the* come out of the cit*,we shall take them ali%e, and get into the cit*. :1&ne of his ser%antsanswered, ;lease let some take fi%e of the horses that remain, whichare left in the cit* Ebehold, the* are as all the multitude of Israel whoare left in it8 behold, the* are as all the multitude of Israel who areconsumedF8 and let us send and see. :1)he* took therefore two

chariots with horses8 and the king sent after the host of the S*rians,sa*ing, o and see. :1)he* went after them to the ordan: and,behold, all the wa* was full of garments and %essels, which theS*rians had cast awa* in their haste. )he messengers returned, andtold the king. :10)he people went out, and plundered the camp of theS*rians. So a measure of fine flour was soldfor a shekel, and twomeasures of barle* for a shekel, according to the word of 'ahweh.

:1)he king appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to ha%ethe charge of the gate: and the people trod on him in the gate, and hedied as the man of od had said, who spoke when the king camedown to him. :13It happened, as the man of od had spoken to theking, sa*ing, )wo measures of barle* for a shekel, and a measure offine flour for a shekel, shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate ofSamaria8 :14and that captain answered the man of od, and said,-ow, behold, if 'ahweh should make windows in hea%en, might sucha thing be+ and he said, "ehold, *ou shall see it with *our e*es, butshall not eat of it: :26it happened e%en so to him8 for the people trodon him in the gate, and he died.

3:1-ow $lisha had spoken to the woman, whose son he had restoredto life, sa*ing, Arise, and go *ou and *our household, and so(ourn

where%er *ou can so(ourn: for 'ahweh has called for a famine8 and itshall also come on the land se%en *ears. 3:2)he woman arose, anddid according to the word of the man of od8 and she went with herhousehold, and so(ourned in the land of the ;hilistines se%en *ears.3:&It happened at the se%en *ears9 end, that the woman returned out ofthe land of the ;hilistines: and she went forth to cr* to the king for herhouse and for her land. 3:-ow the king was talking with ehazi theser%ant of the man of od, sa*ing, ;lease tell me all the great thingsthat $lisha has done. 3:It happened, as he was telling the king howhe had restored to life him who was dead, that behold, the woman,whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house andfor her land. ehazi said, M* lord, king, this is the woman, and thisis her son, whom $lisha restored to life. 3:0/hen the king asked thewoman, she told him. So the king appointed to her a certain officer,sa*ing, Destore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field sincethe da* that she left the land, e%en until now. 3:$lisha came to=amascus8 and "enhadad the king of S*ria was sick8 and it was toldhim, sa*ing, )he man of od is come here. 3:3)he king said toazael, )ake a present in *our hand, and go, meet the man of od,
