“Congratulaons to all of you who
have nurtured the growth of the
Foundaon as we celebrate our
45th Anniversary. I am proud to
associate myself with all of you
who devote your me, efforts and
resources”, remarked the outgoing
Chair Ralph Gallagher. “Many mes
the rewards are hard to measure,
but observing those who benefit
from that dedicaon and effort are
reward enough. The Foundaon is
supported by the generosity of
past and current donors whose
philanthropy will live in perpetuity.
We have all benefited from the
sense of community provided by
this generosity. Thank you for the
opportunity to serve you”.
“As we celebrate 45 years as a
Foundaon, this year is the perfect
me to center our conversaon on
the nearly $8 million the Founda-
on has given back to the commu-
nity in grants and scholarships.
It is evident that our mission of
‘Enhancing the quality of life for all
cizens in our community’ has
stood the test of me”, recites
incoming Chairman, Chip Wood.
“Together we can face the many
challenges that lay ahead and con-
nue to pay it forward. I appreci-
ate Ralph Gallagher encouraging
me and enhancing my understand-
ing of the Foundaon. I look for-
ward to serving the Foundaon
over the next two years”.
In 1979 Howard C. and Mary Allene Hawk established a community
fund to recognize the Good Citizen of the Year. Since that time 34
Good Citizen Awards have been presented.
This year’s recipient, Richard (Dick) L. Reed
has dedicated many years to public service
by serving on the Bryan Civil Service Commis-
sion, Bryan City Council, Bryan Chamber
Commerce Board, Habitat for Humanity, Quadco and the Bryan
United Way Board. He has been a Junior Achievement Advisor and
is a past 35 year member of the Bryan Rotary Club. Dick was also a
founding trustee of the Foundation, serving several years as
Treasurer and was President from 1986 to 1991. Dick commented,
“I believe serving in a community organization is not a task but an
opportunity to grow and learn.” Congratulations!
