The Vols will host the Chanticleers at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, at Thompson-Boling Arena. The Vols dropped to 6-5 on the season after a heartbreaking 61-62 loss to Nebraska Thursday, Dec. 30. Tennessee went 0-of-4 from the free throw line in the game’s final 36 seconds while the Huskers’ Marcus Neal made all of his free throws when he was fouled shooting a 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left. UT fin- ished the game shooting 45.3 percent from the field but just 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from the line. Scooter McFadgon leads the Vols with 15.9 points per game. Brandon Crump is second with 12.6 points and is leading the team with 5.7 rebounds per game. C.J. Watson is averaging 12.1 points and a team-high 5.6 assists per game. Freshman Chris Lofton is leading the nation in 3-point percentage (61.5 percent) and ranks fourth on the team with 11.7 points. Tennessee Trends• Tennessee is playing the final game of a four-game home stand before opening conference play. TheVols host Belmont (Dec. 20), Campbell (Dec. 23), Nebraska (Dec. 30) and Coastal Carolina (Jan. 2)before opening SEC play at Georgia (Jan. 5).• The Vols are in a stretch where they play eight of nine games at home. UT’s only road game duringthe month of December was a visit to New Mexico on the 18th.• After shooting 42.5 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from 3-point range in their first five games,the Vols are shooting 53.2 percent (148-of-278) from the field and converting 48.4 percent (45-of-93) oftheir 3-point attempts over their last six games.• Tennessee has shot 50 percent or better from the field in four of its last six games.• Brandon Crump needs one blocked shot for 100 rejections in his career. The Coastal Carolina gamewill be the senior’s 100th career game for the Vols.• Chris Lofton has made 23 of his last 32 (71.9 percent) field goals and 15 of 21 (71.4 percent) 3-pointers.• C.J. Watson’s 266 career assists are eighth all-time at Tennessee. Covering PracticeTennessee basketball practices are closed to the general

public, except for invited guests who have contacted the bas-ketball office. Media attending practice are asked to sit in sec-tion 100 (northwest corner) during practice.

Photographers and videographers wishing to shoot practicewill be allowed to shoot at the beginning of practice until theteam huddles (This will be a period of about 20-30 minutes).Photographers are asked to shoot only from the west baselineand not from courtside or in the stands.

Prior to the start of the SEC schedule, head coach BuzzPeterson and the Tennessee players will be available for a 20-minute interview period after practice two times a week. Dueto varying practice schedules, these days will be predeterminedby the coaching and sports information staff at least one weekin advance.

Once the Vols begin the SEC portion of their schedule,Peterson will host a media luncheon each Monday and will beavailable after practice on Thursday. Players will be availablefor interviews for a 20-minute period after practice onMondays and Thursdays.

Coach Peterson will be available for radio interviews onetime a week for each station. The interviews may be live ortaped, depending upon coach’s schedule.

Basketball SID Craig Pinkerton should be contacted for anymedia opportunities outside of these guidelines. Such requestswill be reviewed on an individual basis.

Postgame InterviewsThe UT locker room is closed. Coach Buzz Peterson will meet

with the media following a brief cooling off period. Vol playerswill be available for interviews outside of the locker room.

One of the great young teachers incollege basketball today, Buzz Petersonis in his fourth season as the head coachat the University of Tennessee. Petersonhas built the Vols into one of the mostexciting and dangerous teams in theSEC in a short time. Following are somenotes on his career:

Crump Bounces BackBrandon Crump’s senior season didn’t start the way he wanted it to when after the Vols’ first five gameshe was averaging 8.8 points per game, six points less than he averaged as a junior (14.8 ppg) ... TheHouston, Texas, broke out of his early season slump in style with a career-high 26 points on 11-of-14shooting against Xavier (12/11/04) ... The 26 points were one better than his previous career high that hehad accomplished two times (most recently against Mississippi in 2004) ... Vols Sign Three In Early PeriodBuzz Peterson announced that three players signed national letters of intent to play basketball at theUniversity of Tennessee in the November signing period.• Tyler Smith, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound forward from Pulaski, Tenn., was selected as one of the top 10 highschool players in the nation when Street & Smith’s named him a second team selection on the 2004 BoysHigh School All-America Team. As a junior at Giles County High School the first team all-state selectionaveraged 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists while leading the Bobcats to the state tournament. Asa sophomore he earned tournament MVP honors after leading Giles County to a state championship.Rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com, he was named the MVP of the all-star game at the adidasSuperstar camp last summer in Atlanta. • Matthew Dotson, a 6-foot-8, 210-pound forward from Centerville, Tenn., is rated a three-star prospectby Rivals.com. He was named the Class 3A Player of the Year for Hickman County High School’s dis-trict last year. A big man who has a deft outside shooting touch that extends beyond the 3-point arc, heaveraged 23 points and 14.5 rebounds as a junior. • Damion Harris, a 6-foot-10, 275-pound center from Greenville, S.C., was a Class AAAAll-State selec-tion at Wade Hampton High School last season. As a senior in 2003-04 he led the Generals to the statetournament and as a junior he averaged 16 points, 14 rebounds and 6.5 blocks in leading Wade Hamptonto the Class AAA Upper State finals. He first signed with the Vols last year, but is spending the 2004-05season playing for Prince Avenue Prep in Pickens, S.C.
