Eight All-Americans: Doug Howard, Mike Buhler, Rick Thayer, Sam Martin, David Graham (2x), Tom Pellat (2x) Sophomore Joey Brunet In 2009, the team won the Glenn Heath Memo- All-ODAC team and one player was voted as the ODAC Sportsman of the Year. Dr. Bill Kuchler
Head Coach
Dr. Bill Kuchler took
over the reigns of the Lynch-
burg College golf team four
years ago after working in
higher education for almost 30 years at the Division III
level. He has an extensive coaching background, includ-
ing 12 years as head golf coach at Lakeland College (WI)
and 16 years as a head and assistant men’s basketball
mentor. He was honored as the Lake Michigan Confer-
ence golf coach of the year in 2000 and coached three
All-Americans.
In 2009, the team won the Glenn Heath Memo-
rial Shipbuilders Tournament. Three Hornets made the
All-ODAC team and one player was voted as the ODAC
Sportsman of the Year. The 2008 team also placed
three golfers on the All-ODAC Team and won the Lynch-
burg College Tournament. In 2007, two golfers garnered
All-ODAC accolades.
Kuchler, an associate professor of sport manage-
ment at LC the last six years, taught exercise and sport
science at Lakeland for 15 years. He received his
doctorate in sports management from the United States
Sports Academy after completing his masters in educa-
tion from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a
bachelor’s degree from Carroll College (WI).
Berenice and Brian FedderAssistant Coaches
Berenice Fedder joined the LPGA in 1980. She taught from 1982-1990 at Poplar Forest and has worked at London Downs since 1991. In 2008, Berenice started working at Boonsboro Country Club as well as teaching at London Downs. Brian became the head golf pro at Oakwood Country Club in 1978. From 2000-05, he worked at Botetourt Country Club and became a quarter century member of the PGA in 2000 and a life member in 2005. Currently Brian is a demo tech for Cobra and owns a leather repair business. Berenice and Brian have both attended numerous seminars on teaching golf, learning from Manuel de la Torre, Gary Wiren, Bob Toski, Eddie Merrins and Bob Rotella. The Fedders’s son was the 1998 Virginia State Junior Champion and is currently an assistant pro in Atlanta.

Steve SmithAssistant Coach
Steve Smith served his second year with the golf program after spending seven years as an assistant baseball coach. His duties include oversight of the strength and conditiong program as well as administrative and practice duties. Along with his coaching duties, Smith is a faculty member in the School of Health Science and Human Performance teaching courses in Health and Physical Education and Exercise Physiology. Heisacertifiedstrengthandconditioningspecialist(CSCS) and he holds two credentials from USA Weightlifting. He graduated from Lynchburg in 1997 (B.S.) and in 1999 (M.Ed.) He is currently pursuing his doctorate from the University of Virginia in Motor Learning and is married to Jamie.
