About the Rally

Living well with lung disease can be a daily struggle. The

good news is that there are ways to manage the disease that

can lead to a better quality of life.

The Respiratory Rally is a one-day conference about

lung disease, including chronic obstructive pulmonary dis-

ease (COPD), asthma, black lung, lung cancer, and alpha-1

antitrypsin deficiency. Now in its second year in West Virginia,

the conference is planned and implemented by a team of

health professionals and community organizers who on the

front lines of this battle against lung health disparities, bring to

the target audience the essential message that it is possible

to live well with lung disease.

The Respiratory Rally is designed to:

• Provide an exchange of information that will give those

affected by lung disease the tools necessary for living

daily with lung disease.

• Teach management techniques that will empower

people with lung disease and their caregivers to live more

productive and fulfilling lives.

• Encourage social interaction between people who share

a common problem in an effort to decrease depression

and feelings of isolation and provide a more optimistic

view of life.
