2010-11 BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS

MEDIA NOTES

Last Game: The Sound Tigers traveled through New England to battle the Portland Pirates on Friday night. Travis Hamonic scored his first career AHL goal via the power play less than three minutes into the game to give the Sound Tigers an early 1-0 lead. Goaltender Kevin Poulin made his AHL debut for the Sound Tigers and held strong until Pirates forward Mark Mancari and Dennis McCauley scored two goals just 13 seconds apart in the final 16 seconds of the second period to snap a 1-1 tie. Pirates netminder Jhonas Enroth had 27 saves and held the Sound Tigers at bay in the final period, giving Portland the 3-1 win. Another Milestone: Mark Wotton reached another milestone in his storied AHL career last night in Portland. The Sound Tigers captain played his 300th game in a Sound Tigers uniform, and continues to add to his team record of games played for Bridgeport. Familiar Faces: The Sound Tigers and the Wolf Pack will get to know each other quite well during the 2010-11 regular season. The two squads are set to play each other 10 times during the Sound Tigers 10th Anniversary season, including games at the Arena at Harbor Yard on the days following Thanksgiving and Christmas. A Fast Start: Jack Capuano’s squad jumped out to early leads in each of their first three games. Last night, defenseman Travis Hamonic scored on the power play just 2:38 into the first period to put the Sound Tigers on top. Micheal Haley scored less than three minutes into the Sound Tigers opening night contest against Worcester, and Robin Figren scored 6:42 into the Sound Tigers game on Oct. 10 against Manchester. Goin’ For The Kill: The penalty kill has been a bright spot for the Sound Tigers early this season. Bridgeport killed off all eight of Portland’s power play opportunities last night, and on the season has been successful on 14 of 15 penalty kill attempts, ranking them 8th in the AHL. Call It A Coincidence: On Oct. 9, 2009 the Sound Tigers defeated the Worcester Sharks at home by a score of 4-3 in a shootout. This season, exactly one year later on Oct. 9, 2010, the Sound Tigers beat Worcester at home via the shootout, this time by a score of 5-4. Getting’ Figgy With It: Forward Robin Figren has gotten off to a lightning fast start after a somewhat quiet 2009-2010 season. After scoring three goals and tallying four assists in 62 games last season with the Sound Tigers, the Stockholm, SWE native kicked off the 2010-11 season in style, scoring a goal in each of his first two games, as well as netting in goal in the shootout during the Sound Tigers 5-4 win over Worcester. Making Their Debuts: The Sound Tigers had four players make their debuts on opening night. Forwards Jeremy Yablonski and Rob Hisey played their first game for the Sound Tigers on Oct. 9 against the Worcester Sharks, the latter of which scored a shorthanded goal in the first period. That game also marked the professional debuts for Islanders draft picks Travis Hamonic and David Ullstrom, and Ullstrom recorded an assist on Matt Martin’s goal late in the second period of the game. Mikko Stands Tall: The 6-6, Vantaa, Finland native has had a strong start to the 2010-11 regular season after missing nearly all of the 2009-10 season due to injury. Koskinen made 26 saves in the Sound Tigers 5-4 SO win against Worcester, and kept his team in their Oct. 10 contest against Manchester, a 2-1 loss to the Monarchs.
