We are located in Salina, the crossroads of Kansas, so our students are in an ideal location for internships, student teaching placements, volunteer activities, and off -campus jobs. The intercollegiate athletics program is an important part of the life of many Kansas Wesleyan students. We are proud members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character program. Our teams compete through the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), and that competition demands both focus and commitment. The lessons our students learn through their participation in our athletic programs help develop those skills that will be needed throughout life: goal setting, commitment to excellence, teamwork, and communication. We have made a strong commitment to having the programs, services, and facilities needed to support a strong athletic program. In addition to our athletic program, our students can choose from a full range of student activities that appeal to a wide variety of interests. Just a few examples of student activities include vocal and instrumental music groups, theatre, studio arts, debate and forensics, yearbook, newspaper, student government, ministry and fellowship groups, intramurals, and numerous other special interest organizations. I am impressed by the number of our athletes who become actively involved in many of these other opportunities on campus.

WELCOME TO TODAY’S GAME FROM ATHLETIC DIRECTOR MATTHEW WILLIAMSWelcome to Kansas Wesleyan University, the home of the Coyotes. As I embark on my sixth campaign as Athletic Director, KWU continues its commitment to excellence, providing outstanding opportunities for student-athletes to excel not only in athletics, but also in the classroom. KWU’s commitment to give students the tools they need to succeed is evident all over campus.

Our athletic programs continue to be a dominant force in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and continue to make a strong showing and positive representation of Kansas Wesleyan at the national level as our Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Basketball and Baseball teams

represented KWU and the KCAC at NAIA Championship events in 2009-10.

Our athletic programs also are committed to being the best of the best. Over the last fi ve years, the Coyotes have won 28 KCAC and NAIA Regional Championships and has had the best overall and in-conference records in the conference

for three of the last four years in the eight major team sports sponsored by the KCAC (football, volleyball, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball and softball). Over the last fi ve years KWU boasts the best in-conference record in the eight major sports in the KCAC,

tallying a 389-211-3 record in conference play, winning 65 percent of the time.

We also have launched a new athletics website: www.kwucoyotes.com giving us one of the strongest presences on the web in our conference, and I applaud the eff orts of Sports Information Director David Toelle for getting our website up and running in just a short amount of time.

This year we are emphasizing our “Commitment to Excellence” through the four cornerstones of success as outlined by President Lamkin – Responsibility, Respect, Fairness and Integrity; in addition to continuing our emphasis on the “Three E’s,” where student-athletes are: EXPECTED to graduate from Kansas Wesleyan University, EXPECTED to strive just as hard in the classroom as on the athletic fi eld, and EXPECTED to have a winning season.

Our coaches have continued to recruit high quality student-athletes that excel not only on the athletic fi eld, but in the classroom as well. Last year, our Women’s Basketball and Volleyball teams were named as NAIA Scholar Teams, and the Volleyball team earned the Academic Team Award from the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association, one of only 34 teams at the NAIA level to receive the award.

The faculty, staff , and administration of Kansas Wesleyan University have all taken pride in what we have accomplished and will continue to take pride in the success we will have this year both on and off the athletic playing fi eld.

THIS IS COYOTE ATHLETICSKansas Wesleyan University prides itself on being the best of the best. Over the last fi ve years, the Coyotes have won 28 KCAC and NAIA Regional Championships, a mark unprecedented over that time span. In addition, KWU has had the best overall and in-conference records in the conference for three of the last four years in the eight major team sports sponsored by the KCAC (football, volleyball, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball and softball).

Over the last fi ve years KWU boasts the best in-conference record in the eight major sports, tallying a 389-211-3 record in conference play, winning 65 percent of the time. The best season came in 2006-07 when KWU won 90 of the 119 conference contests it played. No other school has won more than 85 conference games in a single season over that same time period.

It doesn’t stop there. The University has made strides in the last few years to upgrade its athletic facilities to some of the best at the small college level in the state of Kansas and in the entire region. In 2008, KWU opened the Student Activities Center that features Mabee Arena. Mabee is like no other facility in the area at this level, seating approximately 1500 and featuring some high tech, high quality features you will not fi nd anywhere else. Complimenting the Arena is the Hauptli Student Center and the Everett Morgan Strength Training Center, along with the Brown Mezzanine, new Athletic Training facilities and coaches offi ces. KWU also recently announced plans to renovate the Martin Stadium area to revitalize that area of campus.

In the last four years, Wesleyan has had 359 All-KCAC selections, including 177 as First Team nods. 50 players have received individual conference honors and 17 times a KWU coach has been selected as a KCAC Coach of the Year in their respective sport. Wesleyan boasted 36 All-NAIA Region IV players over the last three years of regional play, and four times coaches were named Regional Coach of the Year. KWU has had 39 NAIA All-Americans in the last four seasons, including 12 in 2008-09. Two Wesleyan coaches have received honors at the national level, including Colby Hensley (AFCA-NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year, 2006) and Mike Dibbini (2007 NSCAA Great Plains Region Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year).

In addition to our athletic program, our students can choose from a full range of student activities that appeal to a wide variety of interests. A. WAYNE LOWEN, PH.D.EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT & PROVOST

Dr. Lowen began his duties at Kansas Wesleyan University in July, 2010. He came to Kansas Wesleyan

following a long career in higher education, most recently at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo.,

where he was Director of Planned Giving and CFO.

Prior to Westminster, Lowen served as President of Florida Christian College. Before Florida Christian, Lowen had a 14 year career as faculty member and Academic Dean at Central Christian College in Moberly, Mo. Dr. Lowen has extensive teaching experience internationally, having taught leadership courses nearly every year since 1992 in Myanmar, as well as teaching in Cambodia, Thailand, China, Indonesia, India and the Philippines.

Dr. Lowen earned his BA and MA from Cincinnati Christian University, and his Ph.D. in Higher and Adult Education from the University of Missouri. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the Association for Biblical Higher Education, and on numerous accreditation teams for both ABHE and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Dr. Lowen has extensive community involvement in his background, having served as Deputy Mayor in Fulton, Mo., prior to his move to Kansas. He has been president of two Rotary clubs, and served as Assistant Governor of Rotary District 6080. Immediately before joining KWU, Dr. Lowen traveled to Kibungo, Rwanda, to visit a new women and children’s clinic. Dr. Lowen was chair of the fundraising committee that provided $100,000 to construct the clinic.

FLETCHER M. LAMKIN, PH.D.PRESIDENT AND CEO

President Fletcher M. Lamkin was selected in November 2009 by the Kansas Wesleyan University

Board of Trustees as the 18th President of the University. President Lamkin began his presidency of Kansas Wesleyan in January 2010.

President Lamkin was selected from a pool of 67 candidates who sought the Kansas Wesleyan presidency.

President Lamkin and his wife, Cindy, are no strangers to higher education. Fletcher Lamkin has more than 20 years of academic leadership, including seven years as a liberal arts college President; fi ve years as Chief Academic Offi cer at West Point; eight years as a department head, program director, and faculty member at West Point; and one year as University Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

In addition to his Bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Military Academy, Lamkin also received a Master of Science degree in Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley; a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from Salve Regina College; and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Washington.

SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR DAVID TOELLE

David Toelle has been Sports Information Director at Kansas Wesleyan since 2001. His responsibilities as SID include publication of media guides for media day events, publication of game day programs, keeping statistics at football, basketball, and baseball games, press box and table management at football and basketball games, writing press releases, and updating the Athletic Department website. He came to Kansas Wesleyan in the Fall of 1996, and graduated from Wesleyan in 2001 with a bachelors’ degree in Computer Information Systems. He then graduated in 2008 with a second bachelor’s degree from KWU in Sports Management. Toelle also is involved in the community, especially during the basketball season, when he donates his time at the Salina Bicentennial Center doing basketball statistics for the basketball tournaments held there in March. He was also involved with the Kansas Cagerz, a USBL Professional Basketball team that played its game from April to June. In addition to his duties at KWU, Toelle serves as KCAC Conference Statistician, where he is responsible for compiling and distributing the weekly statistics for the KCAC in football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball and softball. He resides in Salina with his wife, the former Jennifer Meek of Marietta, Ohio; son, Trae and daughter Tenille.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT PATTY COLAHAN

Patty Colahan begins her second year as Administrative Assistant for the KWU Athletic Department.

Colahan previously served as Campus Visit Coordinator for the KWU Admissions Department before moving over to Athletics.

She is a native of Salina, and a graduate of Salina South High School, but has also lived in eight other states.

Patty and her husband, Dan, live in Salina. Patty has one son, KC, and a stepdaughter, Hollie and a stepson, Patrick.

FACULTY REPRESENTATIVE TOR WYNN

Tor Wynn has taught Sociology at Kansas Wesleyan University since 2005, and the 2010-11 academic year is his fi rst as Faculty Athletic Representative. Dr. Wynn earned his B.A. at Oakland University in Michigan, and earned both his M.A. and PhD in Sociology from the University of Iowa. Before coming to KWU, Dr. Wynn taught at the University of Iowa, Coe College, and Wichita State University.

Dr. Wynn lives in Wichita with his wife, Maryann and their three children.

Matthew Williams has been the Director of Athletic Programs at Kansas Wesleyan since 2005. Under his direction, the KWU athletic department has ascended to the top of the Kansas Conference, and made a name for itself nationally. In Williams' fi rst four years, the Coyotes went from a 66-55 record in conference play to a best ever 90-29 record in 2006-07, and a 86-35 record in 2008-09. KWU has had the best combined record of the eight major sports (football, volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, softball and baseball) since the 2006-07 in the conference, and has won an unprecendented 28 Championships under his leadership. Since Williams' fi rst season, KWU is 389-211-3 in KCAC play and 658-511-15 overall. Wesleyan has sent eight teams to the NAIA National Championships in their respective sports in the same time span. Williams, a member of the KWU family since 1999, came to KWU after three years as Athletic Trainer at West Hills Community College in Coalinga, Calif. He took over the Athletic Training program at KWU, and transformed it from an internship program into a full-fl edged academic major, and into the KCAC's fi rst nationally accredited Athletic Training Education Program by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. He also has been an integral part of the development of KWU's Master of Business Administration Degree with emphasis in Sports Management and most recently the undergraduate Sports Management degree. Before taking the reigns of the KWU Athletic Department, Williams spent two seasons as the Associate Athletic Director at KWU, in charge of Game Day Operations for all Coyote athletic events. Williams has a Doctor of Sports Management degree with emphasis in Sports Marketing from the United States Sports Academy, a Master of Business Administration degree from Kansas Wesleyan University, a Master of Science Degree in Athletic Administration from Idaho State University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Boise State University. He resides in Salina with his wife, Tonda, and daughter, Victoria.

ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF BIOS

HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER CHAD SHRIVER

Chad Shriver begins his eighth year as Athletic Trainer at Kansas Wesleyan University.

Before coming to Kansas Wesleyan, Chad received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with Emphasis in Sports Medicine from Charleston Southern University (S.C.) in 1999, and his Master of Liberal Arts degree from Southern Methodist University (Texas) in 2002. Shriver did his Graduate Assistantship at Southern Methodist from 2000-2002.

Chad is a native of the Salina area, as he attended Ell-Saline High School, graduating in 1995.

He resides in Salina with his wife, Mollie, son, Gage, and daughter, Maddison.

ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER ERIC GILLBERG

Eric Gillberg is in his fourth year as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Kansas Wesleyan University.

Gillberg came to KWU after spending two years as Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Bethel College in North Newton.

Gillberg completed his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training and Movement Science from Texas Christian University in 2004. He then completed his Master of Education degree in Sports Administration at Wichita State University in 2006.

Gillberg, a Salina native, is a 2000 graduate of Salina Central High School. He, his wife Regina, daughter, Raeann, and son, Evan, reside in Salina.

ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER KATIE PIERCE

2009 marked the fi rst season for Katie Pierce as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Kansas Wesleyan University.

Pierce came to KWU after completing her Master of Science degree in Athletic Training from East Stroudsburg University (Pa.) in 2009. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in Athletic Training from the University of Kansas in 2008.

While at KU as a student trainer, Pierce worked with several diff erent athletic programs for the Jayhawks, as well as working at Lawrence High School. While at East Stroudsburg, she assisted with athletic training duties at Warren Hills Regional Middle and High Schools in Washington, N.J., and at Phillipsburg High School in Phillipsburg, N.J.

She also volunteered her time for several events, including the Special Olympics and the Pennsylvania Flag Football Tournament in East Stroudsburg in 2008; and the Northern PA Athletic Training 5K Run in Scranton, Pa., in 2009.

Pierce is a native of Olathe, Kan., where she graduated from Olathe South High School in 2004, and is the daughter of Terry and Jean Pierce.

It features Mabee Arena, which seats nearly 1,500, the Hauptli Student Center, with concession stands and gathering areas, new coaches offi ces, new athletic training rooms, the Everett Morgan Strength Training Center which features new fi tness center and weight room facilities, revamped locker room space, new classrooms and several other amenities. The goal of the SAC is to bring several student services that are spread out around campus into one centralized location, giving the campus a stronger sense of community within itself.

The fi tness center features all-new equipment from Life Fitness, including circuit training stations, exercise bikes and treadmills. People working out in the fi tness center are able to watch their favorite shows while working out on the fl at-panel televisions that are spread around the room. The weight room features all new equipment designed specifi cally for student-athlete use from Hammer Strength.



MUIR GYMNASIUM was the former home of Kansas Wesleyan Basketball and Volleyball. Opened in 1981, Muir was the last new facility to be constructed on the KWU Campus prior to the construction of the new Student Activities Center. Muir Gym features a capacity of nearly 800 and provided a high quality small college atmosphere for all athletic contests. Muir Gym is still being used as a practice gym and host to community events.

GENE BISSELL FIELD AT MARTIN STADIUM will be the site of all JV Football games in 2010. Sacred Heart High School also plays its football games at Martin Stadium. The stadium complex, built in the early 1940s as a Public Works project, is the oldest athletic facility in use by the Coyotes today. Over the years, Martin Stadium has been the site of many classic Kansas Wesleyan football games, and it hosted the 2000 American Family Insurance Charity Bowl between the Coyotes and arch-rival Bethany College. The fi eld at Martin Stadium is named Bissell Field in honor of Gene Bissell. “Mr. Wesleyan” coached Coyote football for 26 years and served the athletic department in various capacities, including athletic director until his retirement in the early 1980s. Bissell is KWU’s all-time wins leader in football with 116 career victories.

The BRADLEY TENNIS COURTS are located just to the north of the Martin Stadium Fieldhouse on the corner of Osborne and Clafl in Avenues.

DEAN EVANS STADIUM is Salina’s premier baseball facility and is the home fi eld for Kansas Wesleyan Baseball. Dean Evans features a covered stadium with seating for 800 and adjacent practice fi elds.

SALINA STADIUM is the home for Kansas Wesleyan Football and Soccer matches this year. The stadium seats nearly 7,000 and is complete with synthetic turf that was installed in 2005, a new scoreboard in 2007, an accommodating press box, adjacent parking, locker facilities, and more.

BILL BURKE PARK SOFTBALL COMPLEX is home to Kansas Wesleyan Softball. The park features fi ve soccer fi elds and seven lighted fi elds. The park also features walking/biking trails, fi shing and picnic areas.

The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, commonly called “The Kansas Conference,” is a prominent intercollegiate athletics conference comprised of ten outstanding independent or private institutions of higher education in the state.

The origins of the KCAC are traced to February 15, 1890, when the Kansas Intercollegiate Athletic Association became the result of the fi rst successful attempt at organization among Kansas colleges, “to promote and regulate amateur intercollegiate athletics.” At that time the association or conference included not only private universities and colleges but also Kansas Agriculture College (now KSU), Kansas University, and Washburn University. Football seems to have been the major sponsored sport, and Baker University won the championship for the fi rst three or four years.

In about 1902 this early association became allied with the Kansas College Athletic Conference, a group which was the fi rst to adopt a defi nite set of rules and regulations. It also promoted an annual track and fi eld meet which has continued yearly since, except for World War years. Basketball has been sponsored since 1904. Football was revived in 1907. Tennis began as early as 1912. Golf was added in 1923. By this time the name of the conference had been altered to the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference; it had grown to 17 college members and two allied members: Baker, Bethany, Bethel, College of Emporia, Fairmount (now WSU), Friends, Kansas Wesleyan, KSTC of Emporia (now ESU), KSTC of Hays (now FHSU), KSTC of Pittsburg (now PSU), McPherson, Ottawa, St.Benedict’s (now Benedictine), St.Mary’s, Sterling (formerly Cooper), Southwestern, and Washburn, and with St.John’s and Kansas City University (Kansas) as allied members. Kansas University and Kansas Aggies had dropped out earlier to join other conferences. In 1923 the College of Emporia, KSTC of Emporia, KSTC of Hays, KSTC of Pittsburg, Wichita (formerly Fairmount), Southwestern, and Washburn withdrew to form the Central Conference.

The present legal entity comes from a reorganization of the conference when the predecessor Kansas Intercollegiate Athletic Conference formally disbanded on December 1, 1928, and a new conference was formed which again was called the Kansas College Athletic Conference. The members were Baker, Bethany, Kansas Wesleyan, McPherson, Ottawa, and St.Mary’s colleges. At that time sportswriters quickly gave the KCAC league a nickname: the “Little Six,” in contrast to the Big Six (which became Big Eight, now Big 12) which also was organized in 1928. St.Mary’s College was discontinued in 1931. The College of Emporia returned to the fold in 1933, and Bethel was readmitted in 1939. Friends, a former member of the KIAC, was admitted in 1953. Sterling and Southwestern were approved for membership in 1958. In 1968 Tabor College and St. Mary of the Plains College were admitted to make twelve members in the conference, and the conference was organized into Southern and Northern divisions until 1970 — when Baker, College of Emporia, and Ottawa withdrew to join two separate Missouri-based conferences. In the mid-1970s the formal name was changed again to Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. In 1975 women’s intercollegiate athletics were incorporated into programs of the KCAC. Ottawa was readmitted in 1981, bringing the conference membership to 10. In 1992 St.Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City left the conference and eventually closed. In 1999, Saint Mary College (now University of Saint Mary) joined to return the KCAC membership to ten institutions.

The “Kansas Conference” (KCAC) continues to be an all-Kansas conference. The KCAC is an affi liated conference of the National Association of intercollegiate Athletics with headquarters in Kansas City, Mo.. Today the KCAC sponsors conference intercollegiate athletics in football, volleyball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s indoor track and fi eld, women’s indoor track and fi eld, men’s outdoor track and fi eld, women’s outdoor track and fi eld, baseball, softball, golf, women’s tennis, men’s tennis.

The KCAC is a widely respected conference which governs intercollegiate athletics in cooperation with the NAIA.

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS (NAIA)The purpose of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) is to promote the education and development of students through intercollegiate athletic participation. Member institutions, although varied and diverse, share a common commitment to high standards and to the principle that participation in athletics serves as an integral part of the total educational process.

The NAIA embraces the concept of the student and recognizes the importance of the individuality of each member institution, the value of the conferences and Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) structure, and the benefi ts of membership in a national association.

The NAIA supports gender equity. Gender equity is an atmosphere and reality where fair distribution of overall athletic opportunity and resources, proportionate to enrollment, are available to women and men, and where no student-athlete, coach or athletics administrator is discriminated against in any way in the athletics program. That is to say, an athletics program is gender-equitable when the men’s sports program would be pleased to accept as its own the overall participation opportunities and resources currently allocated to the women’s sports program and vice versa.

The NAIA has 50,000 student-athletes participating at nearly 300 member colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada. Divided into 25 conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.), the NAIA off ers 23 championships in 13 sports.

Since 1937, the NAIA has continued a long tradition of pushing the envelope and making a positive diff erence in the lives of students, coaches and parents. The Champions of Character program is the latest cutting-edge addition to the NAIA’s proud history of innovation.

The Coyotes are ready to strike again. After fi nishing the 2009-10 season in second place in the KCAC at 15-3 and a 22-8 overall record, Wesleyan is poised to make another run for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and a third straight berth in the NAIA National Championships.

The Coyotes are coming off of back-to-back 20-win seasons for the fi rst time in school history and are also coming off their second straight berth in the NAIA National Championships, losing in the fi rst round last year to defending National Champion Morningside.

“Even though we had a young team, we were still able to achieve a high level of success. Second place in the conference, and making the National Tournament last year gave us momentum for this coming year. We are looking to build on that past success.” KWU coach Gordon Reimer said.

Wesleyan has loaded its roster with top talent from around the Midwest and West Coast. Ten freshmen and four transfers join the Wesleyan roster this season. With a strong mix of transfers and incoming freshmen ready to help the Coyotes make the push for the KCAC title. All fi ve starters return from last year’s team as do a majority of the role players off the bench from last year.

Headlining the returners are two-time Honorable Mention NAIA All-American selection LaCole Wilkinson (5-3, Sr., G, Hemple, Mo. / East Buchanan HS) and KCAC Freshman of the Year Stephanie Frost (5-10, So., F, Assaria, Kan. / Southeast of Saline HS). Also returning for the Coyotes are Montric Santee (5-6, Jr., G, Little Elm, Texas / Northeastern State (Okla.)), Jamie Alexander (5-8, Sr., G, Hill City, Kan. / Colby CC (Kan.)), and Shelby Babcock (5-5, Jr., G, Ventura, Calif. / St. Bonaventure HS).

“Stephanie has increased her strength and improved her post moves,” Reimer said. “LaCole has regained her focus and I think she will be a dominant player in our conference as well as on the National level. Shelby and Montric are all looking as good as or better than last year, and Jamie, another starter from last year, has really improved and looks to close her career out on a high note.”

Also returning for the Coyotes will be last year’s sixth man, Damara Lewis (5-10, Sr., F, Lyons, Kan. / Butler CC (Kan.)) and Jessica Potthoff (5-7, So., G, Highlands Ranch, Colo. / ThunderRidge HS), who missed all of last season with a knee injury.

“Damara was a great player off the bench for us last year, and Jessica is back and at 100-percent and is ready to play,” Reimer said.

2010-11 WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SEASON PREVIEWAll-in-all the group of returners accounts for 93.5 percent of the team’s off ensive output from a year ago.

GUARDS Leading the guard rotation will be Wilkinson and Babcock in the starting lineup, with Santee and Alexander fi tting into the rotation as well. Also look for newcomers Katie Novack (5-8, Sr., G, Holcomb, Kan. /Southern Nazarene (Okla.)) and Alicia Nicholson (5-5, Fr., G, Wichita, Kan. / Maize HS) to fi gure into the mix at guard.

Wilkinson returns averaging 11 points per game over her career, including a 12.3 average last year in addition to being named First Team All-KCAC and Honorable Mention All-American for a second straight year. Babcock led the Coyotes in scoring last season at 13 points per game. Santee and Alexander combined to average over 19 points per game this season and will be looked on to contribute this season as well.

Novack, a senior, comes to KWU after spending last season at Southern Nazarene. Before Southern Nazarene, Novack spent two seasons at Garden City CC, where she led the Jayhawk West in scoring at 15 points per game. Nicholson enters as a freshman, playing at Maize HS, helping Maize to an appearance in the State Championships last season.

FORWARDSForward play will be highlighted by the return of Frost after earning KCAC Freshman of the Year, First Team All-KCAC, All-KCAC All-Defense Team and All-KCAC All-Freshman team honors last year. She averaged 12.6 points per game and a team best 7.7 rebounds per game last year.

Also looking to fi gure into the mix will be newcomer Danielle Ekno (6-0, Jr., F, Chino Hills, Calif. / Fullerton College (Calif.)). Ekno comes to KWU after spending two years at Fullerton College, where she twice earned First Team All-Orange Empire Conference honors, averaging 8.2 points and 4.5 rebounds as a sophomore helping the Hornets to a No.2 ranking in the California State rankings and a 32-2 record and an appearance in the California State Junior College Championship game.

“Danielle was a starter for Fullerton and played for the California State Championship,” Reimer said. “She knows how to win and will provide some needed size for us.”

The Coyotes are also looking to Lewis to provide an impact this season as a forward, as well as incoming freshman Christian Cassity (5-11, Fr., F, Springtown, Texas / Springtown HS).

THE SCHEDULEKWU’s 2010-11 schedule is one of the more diffi cult in recent memory. The Coyotes open the year in

Fayette, Mo., taking on Central Methodist and Culver-Stockton in Central Methodist’s Classic. The Coyotes then open the home portion of the schedule against national powerhouse Hastings College. Wesleyan then heads to Seward, Neb., to play in the Concordia University Classic against Doane and Concordia, before a November 16 contest at Baker. The Coyotes then take on Peru State on the road before opening KCAC play on December 2 at McPherson.

The KCAC schedule is no simple task either. There are no easy games in this league. With new coaches, and improved recruiting, the looks to be plenty of heart stopping action on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Despite all the obstacles, Reimer feels very good about the upcoming season.

“I feel this is the most talented team I have had since coming to Kansas Wesleyan,” he said. “If we can keep everyone healthy and have a little luck we should improve on last season.”

HEAD COACH GORDON REIMER

Gordon Reimer has been the head women's basketball coach at Kansas Wesleyan since the start of the 2004-05 season. His career record is 91-89 in six seasons leading the Coyotes. In 2005, Coach Reimer started the process to turn around the women's basketball program. In one year the Coyotes improved from 5-24 to 14-15 fi nishing 6th in the KCAC conference. In his past fi ve years he has won 86 games, more than

triple the 27 wins in the previous six years. "I feel fortunate to have worked with so many great players and assistant coaches in helping me turn this program around."

"Every year my goal at Kansas Wesleyan University is to win the regular season title, the conference tournament,

and play in the National Tournament." Reimer's goals came to realization in the 2008-09 season, as his Coyotes fi nished the season with a school record 27 wins while fi nishing 27-6 overall. Wesleyan tied Sterling for the KCAC Regular Season Championship at 16-2, and then defeated the Warriors in the tournament championship 70-61 on their home fl oor to advance to the NAIA Division II National Championships for the fi rst time in school history. During Reimer's tenure he has been named 2008-09 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference coach of the year; has coached three NAIA All-Americans, the KCAC Player of the Year and eight academic All-Americans. His teams also hold 19 school records including most points in a season, three point fi eld goals made, total rebounds and most wins in a season at 27. Before coming to Kansas Wesleyan, Gordon spent four years as an assistant college basketball coach. Three years for Central Christian College and one year at McPherson College.

Reimer is no stranger to building basketball programs. Under his leadership he developed one of the state's strongest youth programs in McPherson, Kansas. His teams won many tournaments and one National title. Many of the players he coached helped McPherson High School win fi ve state tournaments in the past ten years. He is a lifelong Kansas native and received both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Baker University.

ASSISTANT COACH RYAN SHOWMAN

Ryan Showman has been an assistant coach in women’s basketball for Kansas Wesleyan since the start of the 2007-08 season.

Showman played basketball for former Wesleyan head coach Jerry Jones for three seasons, and was a three year letterwinner for the Coyotes.

“I am excited to have a chance to help Coach (Gordon) Reimer to continue the turn around of the women’s basketball program,” Showman said. “He has already made great strides, and I am excited to have opportunity to help the team continue its ascent to the top of the conference.”

Showman graduated in 2004 with a degree in HPER Education and taught at Schilling Elementary and was the assistant boys’ basketball coach at Sacred Heart High School the last three years. He graduated from Emporia State in December 2008 with a Master of Science Degree.

ASSISTANT COACH LATASHA TRUNDLE

2010-11 marks the fi rst season for LaTasha Trundle as an assistant coach for the KWU Women’s Basketball team.

Trundle comes to Kansas Wesleyan after spending two years at South Gray High

School as head coach from 2007 to 2009. In her fi rst season, she led South Gray to its fi rst ever Kansas Class 1A

State Championship appearance and eventual State Championship with a 27-1 record. She was named the Kansas Class 1A Coach of the Year in 2008. In 2009, she led South Gray to another 27-1 record and a State Runner-Up fi nish.

She also has coaching experience as assistant girls’ coach at Garden City High School for three years, and one season as coach of the Holcomb Middle School seventh grade team.

Trundle, a native of Hiawatha, graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1994 and continued on to Garden City CC, where she played for two seasons and earned her Associate’s Degree. As a sophomore, Trundle led the NJCAA in three-point shooting and was a unanimous First Team All-Jayhawk selection. She then continued on to play two years at the University of Missouri in 1996-97 and 1997-98. Trundle then completed her Bachelor of Science degree from Friends University in 2003.

Trundle was invited to the US Olympic Team tryout in 1994, and was also a 2009 participant in the WEPAC Hoops for Hope fundraiser that helped raise over $70,000 for breast cancer research.

There are a lot of unknowns for the Kansas Wesleyan Men’s Basketball team heading into the 2010-11 season, which opens on November 2 at Southern Nazarene.

According to Coach Mike Davert, who is in his fourth year of leading the Coyotes, the team is still searching for an identity for itself, with a lot of things still needed to be decided after two weeks of practice.

The Coyotes do have a lot of scoring to replace, losing over 55 percent of the team’s points from a year ago, mainly due to the graduation of fi ve seniors who accounted for a majority of the points lost from 2009-10.

Wesleyan does have a solid nucleus of returning players that will have to fi ll in some of the gaps opened over last year, and the Coyotes will also look to some incoming players to step in and make impacts for the Coyotes on the hardwood as well.

Some of the key returners for the Coyotes include guards Matt Dickman (6-0, 170, G, Sr., Tucson, Ariz. / Central Arizona College), Tyler Antenen (6-2, 175, G/F, Sr., Salina, Kan. / Cloud County CC (Kan.)) and Bryson Flax (5-11, 170, G, Sr., Salina, Kan. / Brown Mackie College (Kan.)),

2010-11 MEN’S BASKETBALL SEASON PREVIEWalong with post players Wes Jones (6-4, 2-5, F/C, Sr., Surprise, Ariz. / Phoenix College (Ariz.)), Tony Milani (6-7, 225, C, Sr., Phoenix, Ariz. / Central Arizona College) and Trevor Kuhlman (6-2, 195, G/F, So., Belleville, Kan. / Republic County HS). Dickman was the leading scorer for the Coyotes last season averaging 12.8 points per game, while Antenen averaged 5.4 points and Flax averaged 4.0 points last season.

Jones averaged 7.1 points and 4.5 rebounds for the Coyotes in the post, and Milani averaged 2.47 points and 2.47 rebounds in 17 appearances a year ago.

Wesleyan sees a few newcomer players that should be ones to watch in the upcoming season. Those players include Jerome Cheadle (6-2, 190, G, Jr., Rowlett, Texas / Mountain View College (Texas)), Mikey Doll (5-11, 175, G, Jr., Goodland, Kan. / Bethel College (Kan.)), Brandon Flenor (6-1, 175, G, Jr., Baltimore, Md. / Phoenix College (Ariz.)) and Seth Smith (6-4, 190, F, Jr., Lexington, Mo. / William Jewell College (Mo.)).

Cheadle played the last two seasons at Mountain View College (Texas), helping the Lions to their fi rst ever NJCAA Division III National Tournament appearance last season. Doll spent one year at Colby CC, before transferring to Bethel for a

season and now is with the Coyotes for his junior campaign. Flenor spent the last two years at Phoenix College. Smith spent the last two years at William Jewell before transferring to KWU this year.

The Coyotes also will look to three freshmen who look to fi t into the mix during the season in Mike Love (6-6, 190, F, Fr., Dallas, Texas / West Mesquite HS), Keaton Schaff er (6-3, 195, G, Fr., Tonganoxie, Kan. / Tonganoxie HS) and Dane Brinker (6-2, 170, G, Fr., Seneca, Kan. / Nemaha Valley HS).

THE SCHEDULEThe Coyotes open a diffi cult non-conference slate on November 2 at Southern Nazarene, before heading to Baker on November 4.

Wesleyan then opens the home portion of the schedule on November 9 against York College at 7 p.m., inside Mabee Arena. Up next for Wesleyan will be the Peru State Classic against Peru State and Doane on November 12 and 13 before a November 16 home contest with Baker. The Coyotes then play Washburn on November 20 in Topeka before the Bellevue Classic on November 26 and 27. The Coyotes then open KCAC play on December 2 at McPherson.

Mike Davert took over the head coaching position for the KWU Coyotes prior to the start of the 2007-08 basketball season. Davert’s record at KWU is 45-42 in three seasons leading the Coyotes.in three seasons leading the Coyotes. Davert succeeded Tommy DeSalme, who coached the Coyotes one year, leading Wesleyan to its fi rst KCAC Championship since the 1999-2000 season, and the school’s fi rst-ever berth to the NAIA Division II National Championships, while setting a school record for wins in a season with 28. Brandon Lesovsky returned to Kansas Wesleyan as assistant men's basketball coach for the 2008-2009 season after stints at Cowley College and Neosho County CC the previous two seasons.County CC the previous two seasons.

Lesovsky, a native of Cuba, Kan., came to KWU after graduating from Hillcrest High School in 1997. He received his undergraduate in 1997. 2010-11 marked the fi rst season for Pete Herrera as an assistant coach for the Kansas Wesleyan Men’s Basketball team.

Herrera came to KWU after serving as head coach at Russell High School in 2008-09 and 2009-10. Herrera led Russell to its fi rst winning season in over 19 years. Prior to Russell, Herrera had coaching stints at Wichita North, North Kansas City, Newton and McPherson.

He also served as a student assistant at McPherson College for the 1998-99 season.

Herrera, a native of San Antonio, Texas, graduated from South San High School in 1993, and continued onto McPherson College, playing basketball for the Bulldogs and Coach Roger Trimmell, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1998.

Herrera currently resides in Russell with his wife, Andrea.

CHEER AND DANCE ROSTERS COYOTE SPIRIT COACHING STAFFHEAD CHEER COACH SHARON CALLAWAY

Sharon Callaway has been with the Cheer and Dance program at Kansas Wesleyan University since 2006. She is the head cheerleading coach, overseeing the duties of coordinating the cheerleading program for the Coyotes. Before Kansas Wesleyan, Callaway spent fi ve years as cheerleading coach at Salina South High School. A native of Salina, and Moreno Valley, Calif., Callaway graduated from Salina South in 1998, and has attended Fort Hays State University, Barton County Community College and Kansas State-Salina. She is the daughter of Bob & Michelle Dolan of Salina, Susan & Dennis Houk of California. She lives in Salina with her husband Kyle, an alumni of KWU, her son Kayson Graham and daughter Kaylee.

HEAD DANCE COACH CHELLE SEYFERT

Chelle Seyfert has been the Head Dance Coach at Kansas Wesleyan since the spring of 2010. Seyfert, a native of Salina, has extensive experience in the dance world. For nine years she has been the owner and head instructor of The Dance Academy in Salina. She also spent six years as an instructor at the M&J Dance Academy in Salina. She also spent four years at Washington Dance Studio in Manhattan and two years at the Encore Dance Studio in Great Bend. A 1992, graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Salina, Seyfert continued onto Barton County Community College in Great Bend, where she was a member of the Cougars' Nationa Danceline for two years before completing her Associate of Arts degree in 1994. She then transferred to Kansas State University, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1996. Seyfert was also the Dance coach for the Kansas Cagerz of the United States Basketball for the team's fi rst season in Salina. She has also taken groups of high school dancers to four diff erent bowl game performances, and was the Choreographer of the 2006 Holiday Bowl halftime show in San Diego, California. She is the daughter of Dick and Kay Jennings and has one son, Jett.

KKANSAS ANSAS WWESLEYAN ESLEYAN CCOYOTESOYOTES COYOTE SPIRITDIRECTOR OF BANDS WILLIAM McMOSLEYProfessor William McMosley begins his eleventh year as the Director of Bands at Kansas Wesleyan University. Since his arrival in 1999, the “Mighty Coyote Pep Band” has ascended to the top of the pep band ranks in the Kansas Conference.

Nicknamed “Maestro Mad Mac” by former Athletic Director and Basketball Coach Jerry Jones, McMosley and his talented group of musicians can be found at all home football games, and most home basketball games jazzing up the crowd as the Coyotes fi ght to victory.

McMosley received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Adams State College in 1969, and also received his Master of Arts degree from Adams State in 1971.

While at Saint Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City in 1989, McMosley was awarded the 1989 Outstanding Teacher Award from Sears Roebuck Company.

McMosley continues to be active across the country, making appearances as a clinician, and as a guest conductor for orchestras, concert bands, jazz bands, and marching bands. He is also the Director of the Salina Municipal Band.



2010-11 KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY GAME DAY MEDIA INFORMATION AND POLICIESMEDIA & PHOTO CREDENTIALSMedia Credentials for KWU home events are issued for working media only and must be requested through the sports information offi ce, preferably in advance. Credentials for media regularly covering the Coyotes will be issued at the beginning of the season. Other credential requests will be handled on a game-by-game basis and a formal request must be issued to the KWU Sports Information Offi ce. Photographers are required to abide by the guidelines set forth by the NCAA and NAIA on shooting limitations from the sidelines. Those not complying with the guidelines may be removed. The Sports Information Offi ce should receive all credential requests no later than fi ve days prior to the game. All requests should be emailed to the SID Offi ce. Media passes may be picked up at the entrance gate to the facility. All credentials are non-transferable and are issued based on the Kansas Wesleyan Athletics Credential Policy.

MEDIA SERVICESAny request for information must be made no later than one hour before the start of a contest and will be available 30 minutes prior. Media requests for information received later than those specifi ed times may not receive the requested information before the start of the game. A fi nal post-game statistical report will be available shortly following the completion of each contest. Final statistics will be e-mailed via KWU’s broadcast system following the conclusion of the game. If you wish to be included on this e-mail distribution, please contact the KWU Sports Information Offi ce. In-game questions or concerns can be addressed on press row by Sports Information Director David Toelle.

PLAYER AND COACH INTERVIEWSPre-game interviews with KWU players and coaches MUST BE coordinated through the KWU Sports Information Offi ce. If media members wish to have a weekly interview with a coach, and players, the Sports Information Offi ce must be contacted in advance, so that the SID knows the interviews are taking place.

COACH AND PLAYER AVAILABILITYHead coaches and other assistant coaches are available for interviews. Please contact SID David Toelle to schedule an interview with a member of the coaching staff . The SID staff will then arrange contact between the requesting media outlet and the coaching staff . All player interviews MUST be arranged through the SID offi ce. To arrange an interview, please call David Toelle at least one day in advance. Players will not be available for game-day interviews until post-game.

LIVE STATS WEBCASTSAgain this season, Kansas Wesleyan will provide live stats webcasts for all homes and select road games. Visit the KWU Athletics website and click on the respective sport. Links will be available on the front page of each sport’s sites in which live stats are available.

‘K-DUB’ AND “COY-OTES”In editorial references to Kansas Wesleyan University Athletics, it has recently become acceptable to use “K-DUB” to reference Coyote athletic teams. Print outlets wishing to use “K-DUB” are asked to use “K-DUB”, not “K-Dub”, “KDub”, “Kdub”, “KDUB”, or any other variation of “K-DUB”. Other acceptable references to Coyote Athletics include: “KWU”, “Wesleyan”, “KW” and “Kansas Wesleyan”. Broadcast outlets are also asked to refer to KWU as “Coy-otes”, not “Coy-o-tes”.

KWU ATHLETICS LOGO POLICY The offi cial Kansas Wesleyan University Athletics logo is the “Power ‘Yote” (shown to the left). It is the identifying symbol for all Coyote athletic teams. Media wishing to obtain an electronic copy of the logo must contact the Sports Information Offi ce to make arrangements for use of the logo.

Credentials and working space for media mem-bers are issued at the sole and exclusive discre-tion of the Kansas Wesleyan Sports Information Offi ce, based on the following priorities and guidelines:

Other newspapers regularly covering Kansas Wesleyan, the current game opponent or another KCAC school. Wire services, regional and national publications are also aff orded this priority.3. Other media outlets who wish to produce reports on the game. Other radio stations conducting a regular sports show receive consideration for credentials.4. Offi cial Kansas Wesleyan student publications or student electronic media outlets covering the game.5. Offi cially recognized student publications and electronic media outlets covering the current game opponent

With the exception of media covering Kansas Wesleyan daily, all passes are issued on a game-by-game basis with consideration of available working space. Passes are non-transferable and are subject to immediate revocation if trans-ferred to non-working media members.
