the 90th minute of AASU’s PBC Semifinal win over Lander - and also collected three assists, while junior Erin O’Rourke (5-9, Jr., Berkeley Lake, Ga.) ranked fourth on the team with five goals to go with five assists. Sophomore Emily Cattanach (5-6, Soph., Ft. Myers, Fla.) returns after assisting on a pair of goals in AASU’s PBC Tournament Championship match while senior Elizabeth Kerkhoff (5-5, Sr., Oxford, Ind.) and sopho-more Madison Reed (5-3, Soph., Cartersville, Ga.) also re-turns. The addition of a trio of talented newcomers will bolster the returning midfield for the Pirates. Freshman Andye Dawson (5-5, Fr., Senoia, Ga.) was the region Player of the Year for East Coweta HS and played club for AFC Lightning 92 White, the No. 2-ranked club in the country. Sophomore local product Courtney Cawley (5-7, Soph., Savannah, Ga.) joins the Pi-rates after spending her freshman season at Utah State Univer-

sity, while sophomore Nadima Skeff (5-7, Soph., Brasilia, Brazil) brings a wealth of inter-national experience as a mem-ber of the Brazilian U-20 Na-tional Team in 2009. Sophomore Kristina Pascut-ti (5-4, Soph., Lilburn, Ga.) scored eight goals as a true freshman complimenting the play of Burton in 2009. She’ll be joined up front by junior Erin Holt (5-5, Jr., Marietta, Ga.), who tallied five goals and six assists last season. Return-ees Katie Jesser (5-6, Soph., Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Dani-elle Fey (5-6, Soph., Wood-

stock, Ga.) give the Pirates added depth as well. This quartet will be joined by incoming freshman Jordan Otto (5-5, Fr., Savannah, Ga.), all-Coastal Empire honoree for St. Vincent’s Academy last season. In goal, senior Tracey Mitchell (5-11, Sr., Albany, Ga.) claimed a career-high 13-4-2 wins with a 1.29 GAA last season for the Pirates. Sophomore Meghan Mayville (5-8, Soph., Sa-vannah, Ga.) gave up just two goals in 362 minutes of action in her debut season with the Pirates. The Pirates have been picked to finish second in a preseason poll of the Peach Belt coaches. Carey Patterson and Morgan Mitchell were also named to the PBC Preseason All-Confer-ence team. AASU opens the season on Friday, September 3, traveling to Lynn for tournament action against the Knights and Florida Southern. AASU’s non-conference slate also fea-tures preseason SAC favorite Tusculum and preseason SSC favorite Rollins, as well as perennial strong regional programs Wingate and Queens (NC). The Pirates’ home opener will be on Wednesday, September 8, at 5:00 p.m. against Brewton-Parker.

The Armstrong Atlantic State women’s soccer squad ac-complished a pair of key firsts during the 2009 season, cap-turing the 2009 Peach Belt Conference tournament champion-ship with a 5-2 win over Montevallo and also claiming its first NCAA Championships victory with a 5-0 win over Belmont Abbey in the Southeast Regional. A key to the Pirates’ success in 2009 was the play of three-time Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year Kristin Burton, who finished her outstanding four-year career as the league’s all-time goal scoring leader with 95. Burton ranked among the top 10 in NCAA Division II history in goals scored and points scored and the Pirates will be searching for a way to replace the offense provided by Burton in 2010. The Pirates do have a strong core returning as 19 players will be back for AASU in 2010. With depth at every position, coach Faulconer is excited about potentially having his stron-gest team ever take the field for the Pirates this season.

Senior All-PBC and All-Region defender Carey Patterson (5-9, Sr., Panama City Beach, Fla.) anchors a back line that re-turns three of its four start-ers from a season ago. Pat-terson helped the Pirates record a team 1.14 GAA and notch nine shutouts during the season. Sopho-more Brooke Lamberth (5-7, Soph., Brooks, Ga.) saw a lot of time last sea-son as a true freshman as a central defender, while the Pirates expect back ju-nior Kelli Bahr (5-10, Jr., Middleton, Wisc.) at full strength after missing most

of last season with an injury. Sophomore Amber Raney (5-6, Soph., Marietta, Ga.) assumed a starter’s role early in the sea-son and played well in her first year as a Pirate. Other returnees at defender include seniors Alyssa Anderson (5-9, Jr., Nicev-ille, Fla.), Amanda Morphis (5-4, Sr., Middleburg, Fla.) and Kyndal Schaaf (5-8, Sr., Columbus, Ga.). The Pirates have also brought in a trio of freshman who will compete for time on the back line. Freshmen Stephanie James (5-5, Fr., Marietta, Ga.) and Taylor Schultz (5-6, Fr., Kennesaw, Ga.) played together in club for NASA ‘10 Elite, while Nettie Perkins (5-3, Fr., Fayetteville, Ga.) starred at Starr’s Mill HS and for Concord Fire South. As the Pirates have grown as a program from year to year, the midfield has progressively grown stronger, so much so that this year’s midfield is inarguably the deepest in AASU history. Honorable mention All-America sophomore Morgan Mitch-ell (5-9, Soph., Lilburn, Ga.) tallied 12 goals in her fresh-man campaign and became a deadly offensive weapon in the air on set pieces. Senior Lianne Stricklen (5-7, Sr., Middle-burg, Fla.) scored two goals - including the game-winner in

Head Coach Eric Faulconer Eric Faulconer begins his sixth season at the helm of the Armstrong Atlantic State women’s soccer program. In just five short seasons, Faulconer has com-piled a 70-27-8 record for the Pirates. His over-all record stands at 138-71-14 in 11 seasons. In 2009, Faulconer led the Pirates to their first-ever Peach Belt Conference tournament

championship with a 5-2 victory over Montevallo in the title match.
