Must see!

While visiting Colusa County be sure to stop by the city of Williams and visit the Sacra-mento Valley Museum. The 16,000 sq. ft. building that houses the museum will turn 100 years-old on September 3, 2011. A cen-tennial celebration will be held on that day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature craft booths, food vendors and live entertainment on the front lawn. Admission is free during the day of this historic event. The building was built in 1911 to serve as the Williams Union High School but was closed in 1956 when a newer high school was built a short distance away. The building remained vacant until February 14, 1963 when it was converted to the museum. The Museum is a registered Blue Star Muse-um. Active duty military personnel are admit-ted free with military identification beginning Memorial Day until Labor Day. The Sacra-mento Valley Museum is located at 1491 E Street in Williams. The Colusa National Wildlife Refuge is one of six refuges in the Sacramento Refuge Complex located in the Sacramento Valley of north-central California. The refuge is located off Highway 20 about 4 miles west of the city of Colusa. The refuge is comprised primarily of managed wetland

impoundments with some grassland and riparian habitat. The Colusa Refuge typically supports wintering populations of more than 200,000 ducks and 50,000 geese. The Colusa National Wildlife Refuge website states that the wetland impoundments are intensively managed to provide

optimal habitat for wintering waterfowl, as well as habitat for resident wildlife and spring/summer migrants. The grassland habitat supports several populations of endangered and sensitive species of plants. The refuge is home to the endangered pal-

mate-bracted bird’s-beak and the threatened giant garter snake. Each year more than 35,000 visitors come to the 4,507-acre refuge to view wildlife.
