Panasonic welding robots without an integrated power source, such as the VR series, and Panasonic welding ro-bots that are fitted with an external power source, such as Fronius, can be programmed in the conventional way with a teaching pendant or with external offline software. When programming with the teaching pendent, the operator uses the teach pendant to navigate the welding robots into the positions that must be welded and sets the welding parameters such as, torch angle, etc. When all the positions have been recorded, this data becomes the welding program. Welding programs can then be played back during production.

The teaching pendant has a number of convenient functi-ons, such a copy, cut, paste, move, etc to make program-ming easier.

During the programming process, the welding robot can-not be used for production.

DTPS is the most frequently used offline arc welding robot programming system in the world.

APG (Automatic Path Generation) for DTPS G2 is an open source software toolkit, developed by Valk Welding to create your own specific robot software. APG uses data out of CAD systems, ERP, CMRS and Excel sheets to automa-tically generate complete programs for the welding robot. With APG it is also possible to check parts and jigs created

in 3D drawings for collisions automatically in DTPS

Panasonic developed G3 Weld Navigation for the latest generation of robot controller.Weld Navagation asks you to choose the type of joint you want to weld (fillet weld, lap joint, butt weld) and then by entering the material type and thickness, G3 Weld Navigation automatically calculates the correct settings for amperage, voltage and welding speed. The software also provides advice on the correct torch angle and offset of the TCP to achieve the perfect welding seam.

That means that programs for the welding robot can be produced quicker and simpler than ever before. Employees with limited welding knowledge can now also program welding robots.

Finding the recommended parameters with G3 Weld Navigation:1) Select the joint type: fillet weld, lap joint, butt weld2) Enter the thickness of each material and the type of materialThe software recommends the correct parameter settings for amperage, voltage and welding speed. The correct torch angle and offset of the TCP are also shown.

Creating your own parametersIf you want to go a step further you can enter the welding speed and length. G3 Weld Navigation will automatically recalculate the new parameter settings.

G3 Weld Navigation is a standard function on the newest generation of Panasonic WG3/WHG3 Robot Controllers.
