On behalf of the Board of Directors of The Masters Basketball Association, the Sponsors and the Staff, we want to welcome you the 2011 National Senior Championships.
This will be the third year that the south Florida tournament has been operated by the MBA. We are very proud that a tradition of excellence is being continued under our supervision. We continue to believe the Masters Basketball Association – National Senior Championships is the “Premier” masters basketball tournament in the United States.
Once again, we have attracted teams from across the United States and Canada. From east coast to west coast and from as far away as Anchorage, players are heading to south Florida for this great event.
We must tell you however that we are faced with a serious dilemma. For the past three years, Kevin McNamara has been providing the bulk of the financial support beyond the entry fees that is necessary to operate the tournament at a high level.
Additional financial support in the form of advertising sponsorships must be secured in order to ensure the operation of the tournament in 2012 and beyond. We are very confident that we have individuals within our ranks that have corporate connections that could supply such financial support or could lead us to other corporate connections where a sponsorship would fit. This problem must be solved for the long range vitality of this tournament.
However, let’s have a great time in 2011 and whether this is your first MBA tournament or you are a veteran of many, you will experience a unique week of competition, sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Thanks for coming — have a great tournament!

WE RESPECTFULLY REMEMEBER
Patricia Finney The Masters Basketball Association wishes to make special note of the passing
of Patricia Finney and express our deepest sympathies to her family. Pat had been involved in the South Florida Tournament for many years and was well known by many of our current players and Team Organizers. Pat was also a long time
board member of the Coral Springs Basketball Club, where she had been instrumental in the early organization of the club. She was also one of the very few people
in Coral Springs honored by having a Mullins Park Court named for her.
The Masters Basketball Association honors the memory of these participants and friends of the tournament.

BASKETBALL THOUGHTS
The Wisdom of John Wooden October 14, 1910 - June 4, 2010
WHAT COUNTS“For me it is never simply a case of win or lose, because I do not demand victory. What I demand—and that’s exactly the word—is that each player expend every available ounce of energy to achieve his personal best, to attain competitive greatness as I define it. Victory may be the by-product, but the significance of the score is secondary to the importance of finding out how good you can be. This is only possible with ceaseless, not selective, effort toward that goal.”
AS SIMPLE AS ONE, TWO, THREE“My coaching mentors were by my side in spirit during this time. By the early 1960s, I had a devotion to the following three principles and knew how to teach them:”
1. “Condition. Supreme physical condition accompanied by mental and moral conditioning is foremost. Performance diminishes immediately when condition is insufficient.”
2. “Fundamentals. Players must have the ability to properly execute the basics of the game instantaneously without having to stop and think. This concept is taught through relentless repetition of details (and I was the one who determined which details would be perfected).”
3. “Team Spirit. Most important of all, each young man must be willing and eager to sacrifice personal glory for the good of the group. “One for all and all for one” is a phrase that still send a chill down by spine. The college teams that bring me so much pride are those that demonstrated the highest level of team spirit – the 1948 Indiana State Sycamores and the 1949, 1964, 1970, and 1975 UCLA Bruins. They exhibited a unity that even Coach Piggy Lambert would have admired.”
From My Personal Best, Life Lessons from an All-American JourneyJohn Wooden with Steve Jamison
“The Masters Basketball Association tries to model our operations on many of the principles taught by John Wooden. Attention to detail is one of the most important to a well-run tournament.” — Dave Hulett, MBA Tournament Director

All hospice providers are reimbursed at the same rate. But not all hospice providers are the same.
• Patient comfort is our first priority; we put expert pain management in every plan of care.
• VITAS nurses are available 24 hours a day for shifts of Intensive Comfort Care® or unplanned visits, as needed.
• VITAS is not a place, it is a way to care for seriously ill patients—most of whom prefer to remain at home.
