WELCOME & OVERVIEW Welcome to the 2011 Network Meeting. This is an exciting time in the life of The First Tee as we celebrate our achievements in Phase III and begin Phase IV: Impact, Influence, Inspire. The course offerings for this meeting are designed to provide the tools and training necessary for Chapter leadership teams to experience success in Phase IV.

The purpose of the Online Registration Guide is to provide you with information to maximize the educational and social networking opportunities available during the meeting in San Antonio. Please plan approximately 20 minutes to familiarize yourself with this Guide and the course offerings.

This Guide mirrors the online registration process. Options will be available for registering more than one person in a group or adding a guest to one or many of the social activities. Please refer to this document as you proceed with your registration. You may find it helpful to print one of the two Registration Worksheets (pages 7-12) prior to beginning your registration. The first registration worksheet is for those attendees taking Tracks One, Two and Four. The second worksheet is only for Track Three and should be used by Program Directors and those wishing to become Program Directors.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN The scheduled dates for the 2011 Network Meeting are February 17 – 19 at Hyatt Regency San Antonio on the River Walk at Paseo Del Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. However, there are courses and activities beginning on Tuesday, February 15. Before you begin your online registration process, you’ll need to answer a few questions:

• Who will attend from your Chapter? • Has your executive director completed the ZONE-required Executive Core Education course? • Will anyone arrive for the early BEEP courses? • Will anyone arrive early to play in The Territory Cup golf outing? • Are you paying by check or credit card? • Who is responsible for registering and paying for each attendee from your Chapter? • Who will attend which educational course(s)? • What do you hope to learn while at the Network Meeting? • What questions do you want to discuss with other Chapters? • Will guests attend any of the events?

REGISTRATION TYPES: WHO SHOULD REGISTER FOR WHAT? The 2011 Network Meeting offers a wide variety of educational opportunities, but each course is not for everyone. The meeting will feature four educational tracks. Depending on your Registration Type, your course offerings may vary. Track One is for Pre-Meeting Training and Golf opportunities. Track Two is for Board Members only. Track Three is the Program Director Track. Finally, Track Four is open to all educational opportunities available during the regularly scheduled meeting times. To assist you with course selections, the home office recommends the following tracks for each Registration Type: Allied Associate

Track Four – This will give you a well-rounded view of The First Tee programs. Board Member

If you are the only board member attending from your Chapter, we highly recommend you join Track Two: Board Members Only. It is different from previous Network Meeting Board courses, and it will provide a heavy focus on Phase IV goals and Chapter planning.

Chapter Staff / Coach / Volunteer Track Four will provide a variety of courses to fit your educational needs and interests. Most courses are offered twice to give you an opportunity to maximize your training schedule.

Executive Director / Recognized Executive Director / Master Executive Director

You are required to arrive early and complete the Executive Core Education program if you have not yet completed the course. If you have completed the Core training, we encourage you to continue toward your Recognized status by enrolling in any of the Track One courses. Reminder: there will be no Board & Executive Education Program (BEEP) courses offered during the Network Meeting schedule. During the meeting, you’ll want to register in Track Four.

National School Program

Track Four will most likely fulfill the educational needs for which you are attending. Course selections are repeated to allow you to attend four separate programs.

The First Tee Coach / Master Coach / Program Director

Select between Tracks Three and Four. Track Three courses have been specifically selected for Program Directors and The First Tee Coaches interested in pursuing a Program Director career. Track Four will provide a variety of courses to fit your educational needs and interests.

Trustee

All four Tracks may be of interest. Join us early for The Territory Cup Golf Tournament or attend Vision to Execution. As the meeting kicks off, enjoy a variety of courses from Track Four and gain insight into the future of The First Tee programs.

LET’S GET STARTED Please read through all of the information in this document before registering online. If you have more than one person from your Chapter planning to attend, we encourage you to attend different educational courses. This will enable attendees to bring back to the Chapter even more information. We recommend that you:

1. Print the Registration Worksheet on pages 7 – 10 for a majority of attendees or print the Program Director Registration Worksheet on pages 11 – 12.

2. Read through the Track Descriptions on page 15.

3. Select your Track(s).

4. Select your courses based on your Track. The page number of course descriptions is in

parenthesis following the course title.

5. Once you have completed your worksheet, please log on to The First Tee website and click on the 2011 Network Meeting Registration link. www.thefirsttee.org

Keep the registration guide handy as you register to refer to class information. After completing your personal information online, you’re ready to begin selecting your activities and courses from the dropdown menus. We look forward to seeing you at the 2011 Network Meeting in San Antonio in February.

The First Tee Programs Technology/Marketing/Communications • If your Chapter is bringing more than one board member, please enroll at least one board member in Track

Two: Board Members Only. Additional board members may attend either Track Two or Track Four.

• Have a meeting with all who are planning to attend to decide course selections for each person from your Chapter. Plan to cover as many different courses as possible.

• For the first time, you will be selecting courses for every session prior to arriving at the meeting. This will assist us in assigning classrooms and preparing course materials and handouts.

• If more than one person is attending classes during the meeting, please register as a group or complete

separate registrations. If a person is not attending classes, this individual should be registered as a guest.

NETWORK MEETING TRACK & COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

TRACK ONE: PRE-MEETING TRAINING & GOLF Arriving early to begin your training is optional. Registering for the following courses carries with it an additional registration fee which will be added to your meeting registration fee. Please select one course if you are arriving early. You may also elect to play golf for a fee or bypass the early arrival section.

All Board & Executive Education Program (BEEP) courses require completion of the Executive Core Education course prior to registration. If you are an executive director and have not completed the Executive Core Education course, you must register for it at this time. All BEEP Courses begin at 8am on Tuesday, February 15 and will conclude by 2pm on Wednesday, February 16 with the exception of Vision to Execution which is offered 8am – 5pm on Wednesday, February 16. Lunch is included each day for all BEEP courses.

The principle goal of the Executive Core Education class is to improve the quality of local Chapter planning and operations in order to maximize the Chapter impact on participants. It builds a foundation from which topics can be further addressed in depth in subsequent classes. Using strategic business planning to build an effective Chapter team, The First Tee Life Skills Education, developing a balanced Chapter funding strategy, operations essentials and The First Tee network and brand are all covered in this class.

� BOARD GOVERNANCE, LEADERSHIP & PLANNING Butch Breeden, Executive Director, The First Tee of Central Coast Rusty Petrea, COO Global Perspectives, Inc.; Founder, The First Tee of Brunswick County This course addresses the critical roles of Chapter board members and executive directors for initiating and building sustainable organizations. Participants engage in “case analysis” of The First Tee fund-raising plans and strategies. Next, participants elaborate on a Chapter-specific fund-raising plan that includes essential action steps for the immediate future. Best practice examples from The First Tee network are illustrated throughout the course in conjunction with fund-raising plans and action steps. This course is taught by experienced Chapter executives and board members.

� VISION TO EXECUTION Marv Covault, Lieutenant General US Army, Retired; Author, Vision to Execution Rusty Petrea, COO Global Perspectives, Inc.; Founder, The First Tee of Brunswick County The focus of the workshop is on how to lead organizations. Leadership is an art, not a science; therefore leadership is a career-long study of how to assess and improve one's leadership skills. The intent is to provide participants with four takeaways. First, each participant will gain an appreciation for the foundation of any organization, referred to as Underpinnings. Second, everyone will build a Framework for Action containing the steps necessary for you to successfully take a vision and turn it into execution. Third, each participant will gain a new and lasting impression of how to deal with change. Finally, the workshop will provide linkage and alignment to and with the other Board & Executive Education Programs.

� THE TERRITORY CUP GOLF TOURNAMENT Brackenridge Golf Course $100 per player We’re changing the format this year! It’s East versus West in a Ryder Cup format. The East Territory (Central Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast regions) challenging the West Territory (Central Plains, Mid-South, Mountain and West regions). Transportation will be provided from the hotel to the

course at 10:45am. Shotgun start at 12noon. A box lunch will be provided at the course. All skill levels encouraged to join the fun.

Pairing/teammate requests will not be accepted. The purpose of the golf outing is to meet new people and promote camaraderie amongst the regions. Players with similar ability levels will be paired together to create competitive groupings. The golf committee will be responsible for balancing the competitive element should one territory have more players than the other. The Territory Cup trophy will be awarded to the winning region during the awards luncheon on Friday.

DEVELOPING & MANAGING EFFECTIVE PROGRAMS This track is designed for current Chapter Program Directors and Coaches who aspire to be Program Directors. The track allows flexibility for Program Directors to choose the most relevant courses related to their Chapters needs. Courses range from impacting at-risk youth, integrating online registration into the participant database, managing program affiliates, increasing retention and progression, transitioning outreach participants, to creating a program culture of continuous learning. These courses will build upon knowledge from The First Tee Coach Program, BEEP: Chapter Business & Program Operations and Vision to Execution courses. Program Directors will select four 2-hour courses and three of 1-hour courses from the recommended list.

CHAPTER CHAT CATEGORIES Single-Purpose The Chapter license agreement is with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted only to The First Tee program. Often this organization was created specifically to operate The First Tee program, but sometimes an existing nonprofit organization becomes solely devoted to The First Tee program.

Multi-Purpose The Chapter license agreement is with an existing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization such as a YMCA, Boys & Girls Club or Junior Golf Association that operates other programs besides The First Tee. There is a board of directors for the overall organization, but the board’s sole focus is not The First Tee program. This Multi-Purpose Chapter often establishes a community advisory committee to assist with fundraising and community outreach. Government The Chapter license agreement is with a state, county or local government entity, such as a City Parks and Recreation Department or a separate Park District. Although the City Council or Park District Board might be the legal board of directors, the government staff members serve as the primary authority for operating The First Tee program. The Government Chapter is required to establish a community advisory committee to assist with fundraising and community outreach. Chapter-Operated Under a facility lease or use agreement, the Chapter has total operating responsibility for at least one of their facilities at which they offer programs. Although a Chapter may have other facilities or program affiliate locations at which it is only responsible for conducting programs, it is classified as a Chapter-Operated Facility if the Chapter is also responsible for operating a public golf facility.

Facility-Operated The Chapter offers programming at a facility for which they have no operational responsibility under the use agreement. This is the most common facility relationship within the network.
