BostonCollege: Boston College will face Providence College in the semifinal round – BC’s second semifinal appearance in three years and fourth overall – of the ninth hockey east Tournament on Saturday, March 5 at 3 p.m. … The eagles are 1-2-0 against the Friars in previous league tournament match-ups, having met in three straight semifinal-round games from 2005-07 (capturing its lone win in 2006) … BC, which won the regular-season series over the Friars, 2-1-0, outscored PC, 8-6, in the three-game league series. Kelli Stack and danielle Welch led all BC scorers with three goals and four points each against the Friars. in the last meeting between the teams, Welch netted a hat trick and finished the game with four points to lead BC to a 4-2 home win on Sun., Feb. 6.

BostonUniversity: The no. 4/5 Boston University women’s ice hockey team finished the regular season with its most overall wins (25) and conference wins (15) in program history … The Terriers also secured their fewest loses in team history (5) … BU earned its first-ever hockey east regular-season championship in just its sixth season … on Monday, graduate student Catherine Ward, junior Jenn Wakefield and freshman Marie-Philip Poulin were announced as nominees for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial award, presented to the top player in nCaa division i women’s ice hockey … The trio was three of just five hockey east players nominated for the honor … Wakefield was a top-10 finalist for the award during the 2008-09 season … BU will play northeastern in the hockey east semifinal round … The Terriers are 3-0-1 against the Huskies in 2010-11 … The teams played to a 3-3 tie in their most recent outing, the Beanpot consolation game.

University of Connecticut: UConn finished the 2010-11 season with a 13-19-3 record...Taylor Gross ended the season with a team-high 23 points on a team-best 12 goals and 11 assists...Jennifer Chaisson ended her collegiate career ranking third all-time in the UConn record books with 57 career assists, fourth with 84 career points and eighth with 27 career goals...alexandra Garcia ended the year with 903 saves, which is the second highest season total in the UConn record books...The Huskies were perfect on the penalty kill during 23 games this season, including 11 out of the final 13 contests...Jody Sydor also ended her collegiate career in the UConn record books, ranking sixth with 41 career assists.

UniversityofMaine: For Maine (12-17-5, 6-12-3), Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinal matchup with providence marked their fourth trip to WHEA post season action. After the loss, the Black Bears now drop to 0-4 in those matchups. However, it is not all dissapointment around the program. The 12 overall wins was the most Maine has had since the 2005-2006 season and the six conference wins were the most since that ‘05-’06 season as well. There was plenty to celebrate as Maine made it back to the playoffs since their ‘06pairing with new hampshire, when they lost 6-0. if there ever were morale victories in major college athletics, Maine’s 5-2 loss in which they led at the end of the first intermission and were tied at the end of the second, was surely that.

NortheasternUniversity: Saturday’s win was the first win in the hockey east tourna-ment for northeastern. The Huskies are now 1-3 all-time in the Hockey East playoffs....The huskies have now allowed just three power play goals in 46 chances. in three straight games with UConn this season, nU has killed off all 11 power play chances it faced...Sophomore forward Rachel llanes has now scored in seven of the last 10 games. She has notched two goals and nine assists in that stretch. She also has recorded multiple points in three of the last four games...llanes notched three assists, which is the second time a Husky has achieved that feat this season. Senior co-captain Julia Marty added three assists in a 5-1 win over Rpi on Oct. 24, 2010. it is the second three point game for llanes...Sophomore forward Casey Pickett notched three points for the first time in her career. it was the third two-goal game of her career...alyssa Wohlfeiler now has 10 career game-winning goals. Saturday’s strike was the fourth game-winner of the season...Florence Schelling has now recorded four consecutive periods of shutout hockey in the playoffs. This streak dates back to the third period of last season’s quarterfinal matchup with UConn.

ProvidenceCollege: The Friars are the only program to qualify for the hockey east Tournament each year since the conference’s inception in 2002-2003. in addition, PC has played in the semifinals in all nine years…The Friars captured the first three hockey east Tournament titles, the most recent coming in 2005, the last time the semifinals and finals were held at Walter Brown arena…Goaltender Genevieve lacasse, just a junior, needs 31 saves to match the providence College record for career stops. The current mark of 2,555 was reached by Jana Bugden in 2006.
