What is a Corporate GIS?• Provides a means to access data within an organisation, irrespective of its

Background – Litchfield Council

• Litchfield Council previously used some basic viewing tools for GIS(i.e. ArcExplorer & it was not integrated with other Council data. Could not edit or create spatial data)

• Council has no IT staff and utilises external consultants

• Litchfield identified a need for a GIS database that incorporated all Council information included in Practical (& Authority)(dog data, rate/land ownership, asset management, cemetery etc)

• Needed to be compatible with NTG data that would be integrated(Flooding, Contours, Soil Type, Fauna, Flora, Planning, Wards, Localities etc)

• Required a system that is commonly used by other councils so staff are familiar with the product(All 5 municipal councils in the NT use MapInfo and 50 (out of 68) in SA use MapInfo as their primary GIS)

Benefits of a Corporate GIS• All the users in the organisation have access to shared, complete,

accurate and up-to-date data
