Who we are

CDCF is a nonprofit focused on ending the

generational cycle of poverty through providing

children the opportunity to create a future

beyond their circumstances.

Today CDCF is proud to provide annual college

scholarships to high school students, host

community gatherings, draw-in motivational

speakers, and fund and manage our college

preparatory program, The BowTie Program

for inner city youth.

Our Future objectives include sharing our

success rate of sending 100% of our seniors to

college with students across the nation by

expanding our program model into additional

cities.

MISSION:

Through strong mentoring, tutoring, and

companionship, we aim to provide a holistic

approach to developing our inner city youth

into public-spirited citizens of scholastic

excellence and strong principles.

PURPOSE:

Our purpose is to engage and to empower

urban youth with the value of education and

hard work; to open opportunities for students

to discover and self-cultivate individual

talents; to expand their own expectations

and to encourage and to facilitate the

materialization of their greatest dreams.

BowTie Program Overview:

How We Began

• In 2004, Jordan Steffy founded CDCF in the name of giving children stable and evolving chances in life. By 2006, as a response to the need of its community, it grew to focus primarily on the importance of higher education and good citizenship, through the creation of its college-preparatory program, the BowTie Program (BTP).

• The BTP targets inner-city youth in grades 5-12, often facing some sort of adversity in their lives. CDCF has found very few scholastic programs able to successfully attract and retain this age group. The BTP has succeeded with this cohort by building strong and lasting relationships with each student, setting high expectations, and a culture of success.

BowTie Logistics

• BTP, started at a class of 5 Scholars and has grown to its 35 Scholars today. It runs all year around, and serves as a space for tutoring, college-prep, mentoring, and character development.

• CDCF’s Sunrise Program, a before school program, provides students the opportunity to earn the BowTie Scholar status.

• As BowTie Scholars the students maintain a 3.0 GPA, weekly attend 2-3 tutoring days and BowTie tours with local business owners .

• Scholars also participate in Youth Entrepreneurial competitions, annually visit colleges, & complete community service projects.

• BowTie Scholars have several personal mentors/tutors of college education that are present for both school work and the scholars’extracurricular activities.
