The CoaChesRob Stack has been a steadying hand for the Chadron

State softball program since he was hired in the fall of 2007.

Prior to becoming the head softball coach, Stack coached baseball for 15 years. He served as the Chadron Senior Legion baseball coach for seven years, leading the Post 12 seniors to a third place finish at the 2007 Class B state tournament and a 44-12 record.

Stack was also the head coach at the Uni-versity of South Dakota from 1994-1998 before coming to Chadron State.

In three seasons, Stack has guided the Eagles to a 86-109-1 record and in the spring of 2010, CSC qualified for the RMAC postseason tournament, winning one game. It was the first time in school history the Eagles played in the conference championship tournament.

Stack has been a consistent force in helping CSC make the leap to Division II. In fact, Chadron State was the only RMAC school to improve its win total each season his first four years on the job.

Stack’s players excel in the classroom. Following the 2010 season, the team GPA was 3.4 and Casey Williams and Cassie Humphrey have been the RMAC All-Academic Play-ers of the Year in 2009 and 2010.

Williams, under Stack’s guidance, also became the first CSC pitcher to be named the RMAC Pitcher of the Year.

Before coming to CSC in 1998, Stack taught in the math department at the University of South Dakota in Vermil-lion for four years. He earned all three of his degrees from USD – a doctorate in 1998, a master’s degree in 1991 and a bachelor’s degree in 1990.

Stack, a native of Tabor, S.D., and his wife, Jill, have six children. They are Kiya, Riley, Caston, Jayden, Brooklyn, and Kennady.

Rob Stack

Mindy Bean, a native of Eugene, Ore., is in her second season as a graduate assistant coach at Chadron State.

Bean had a distinguished career at Division I Towson University after transferring there from Oregon State. While at Towson, Bean started 170 games and set three school records. She was a First Team Louisville Slug-ger/NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team selection in 2009 and a First Team Colonial Athletic Association honoree in 2009 and 2010.

During her time at Towson, she ac-cumulated a .345 career batting aver-age including 28 doubles, 12 triples , 15 home runs, and 83 RBIs, while holding a .958 fielding percentage as a middle infielder. While at Oregon State, she was a reserve infielder who appeared in 37 games, primarily as a pinch runner.

Bean played two years at Winston Churchill High School and was First Team All-State in 2006, while batting .500 and scoring 38 runs. She was a two-time all-league in-fielder at Churchill and was all-conference at Foothill High School in California her first two years of high school.

Bean is working toward a graduate degree in business administration at Chadron State.

Career reCords

This is the 21st year that Chadron State College athletic teams are full-fledged members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The league was founded in 1909, and is second only to the Big 10 as the oldest continuous athletic conference in the nation.

The conference took on a new look as it began 2006-2007 when Western New Mexico at Silver City began league play. The Mustangs, who were in the RMAC from 1967-1990, replaced long-time member Fort Hays State, which opted to become a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, joining a number of other Kansas schools.

The RMAC expanded to 14 members in 1996 with the ad-dition of five schools from the Colorado Athletic Conference. They are Colorado Christian, Colorado-Colorado Springs, Metropolitan State, Regis and Southern Colorado. None of these members have football teams, but all have volleyball and basketball teams.

Besides Chadron State, the pre-existing members of the RMAC are Adams State, Colorado School of Mines, Fort Lewis,

Mesa State and Western State, New Mexico High-lands and the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

The conference members have conservative ath-letic budgets, but provide outstanding competition while emphasizing the educational, unifying and entertainment values of sports.

The conference members belong to Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

The conference commissioner is J.R. Smith and the assistant commission in charge of media relations is Sarah Meier.

The RMAC’s Web site, which contains information about each of its sports, is www.rmacsports.org. The RMAC of-fices are at 219 West Colorado Avenue, Suite 212, Colorado Springs, Colo., 80903. The telephone number is 719-471-4936.
