e Conard-Pyle Co./Star® Roses is proud to have introduced all seven members of e Knock Out® Family of Roses.

Rose Breeder, Bill Radler, has revolutionized the way we think of roses. With the creation of e Knock Out® Rose, many say that

he single-handedly brought rose genetics from the 20th Century into the 21st Century. e Knock Out® Rose, Radler’s rst

commercial success and a 2000 AARS winner, has broken all records for sales of a new rose. Today e Knock Out® Rose is the

most widely sold rose in North America.

e Knock Out® Family of Roses are easy to grow and do not require

special care. ey are the most disease resistant rose on the market.

ey have stunning ower power with a generous bloom cycle (about

every 5-6 weeks) that will continue until the rst hard frost. All of the

Knock Out® Roses are self-cleaning so there is no need to deadhead.

e Knock Out® Family of Roses are winter hardy to USDA Zone 5 and

heat tolerant throughout the entire U.S. ey thrive in almost every

area of the country. In the coldest

regions, they will need winter

protection.

e Knock Out® Family of

Roses can t into any

landscape. Plant them

individually among

shrubs, annuals and perennials in

mixed beds and borders. Plant

them in large groups to create

a colorful hedge. Plant them along a

foundation to provide a bright border.

Drift® Roses, introduced by the same company who brought

you The Knock Out® Family of Roses, are repeat-bloomers

that are tough, disease resistant, winter hardy and virtually

maintenance-free. Drift® Roses are a cross between full-size

groundcover roses and miniature roses. From the former they

kept toughness, disease resistance and winter hardiness. From

the miniatures, they inherited their well-managed size and

repeat-blooming nature.

Continuously blooming from spring to frost (bloom cycle about

every 5-6 weeks), they are naturally dwarf, with very attractive

foliage. They are winter hardy to zone 4.

Drift® Roses range in size from 2-3’ wide x 1 1/2’ tall. The low,

manageable habit of Drift® Roses makes them perfect for small

gardens, hillsides, perennial beds and even awkward areas.

They brighten up borders and fill in empty spaces around your

favorite established plants.

Be sure to look for Drift® Roses at independent garden centers

and big box stores this spring. They will make a beautiful (and

easy!) addition to your garden.

H OW TO: PLANT A CONTAINER KNOCK OUT® ROSE

u

STEP 1 Decide Where to Plant

Your rose bush will need at least 6 hours

of sun each day, so choose a sunny spot.

STEP 2 Dig Hole

Dig a hole that is about twice as wide

and as deep as the container. Work the

soil at the boom of the hole with your

shovel so that it is loose and aerated.

STEP 5 Water

Water your Knock Out® Rose thoroughly

around the base of the plant allowing it

to soak in and repeating as necessary.

STEP 6 Check in

For the next couple of weeks, check in

and water plant as needed to ensure

it stays healthy. Mulch around plant to

help retain moisture and reduce weeds.

STEP 4 Fill in

Add soil back to the hole around the

plant. Break up the soil so that it is nice

and aerated. At this point you can add in

any soil amendments if you wish, such as

manure, peat moss, etc.

STEP 3 Plant

Remove the Knock Out® Rose from its

container. Use your hands to gently

loosen the roots at the boom of the

plant. Place plant in the hole ensuring

that the base of the plant is level with

the soil.

Fertilizing your Knock Out® Roses

e Knock Out® Family of Roses will perform beautifully even with out fertilizing. If you choose to give them an additional boost, it is very important not to fertilize a Knock Out® Rose that was planted from a container until aer the roses are established and go through one bloom cycle. Use a balanced fertilizer or fertilizer formulated for roses from your local garden center and apply aer the rst wave of

owering (be sure to follow the specied rates and method of application provided on the product label). Make sure the soil is moist before you fertilize to avoid burning the roots. Do not fertilize late in the summer as this is the time the rose should be preparing themselves for dormancy and you do not want to create additional unnecessary new growth that will likely die back from the rst hard frost.

Available at select Home Depot stores.

Did you know the Sunny Knock Out® Rose is the only fragrant member of The Knock Out® Family of Roses. It has a slightly more compact and upright habit than The Knock Out® Rose with bright yellow flowers that fade quickly to a pastel cream color. The yellow color stays more intense during cooler times of the year. The dark, semi-glossy foliage contrasts nicely with the bright blooms. The sweetbriar fragrance will captivate your senses as it swirls through the breeze on a balmy summer day.

Although Knock Out® Roses are disease resistant, like most other plants, they are

not immune to pests. Some critters may decide to snack on your Knock Out® Roses, but it ’s important to remember that they will not be harmful to the overall health of your plant.

The leaf damage in the above photo is from a critter called the rose slug (also known as sawfly larvae). Rose slugs live on the underside of the foliage and will chew the leaves of the plant, leaving trails where they’ve munched through. Although your rose’s foliage will look scary, it won’t be detrimental to the overall health of your Knock Out® Roses. If you find that rose slugs

have made a home on your Knock Out®Rose, you may want to try to pick them off with your hands, or simply try spraying the foliage with a sharp stream of water to knock them off.

Another critter that might find your plants irresistible is the deer. When deer are hungry, they will munch on just about anything and your Knock Out® Roses are not exempt from their list of tasty plants. If you do find deer feasting on your roses, don’t worry because this also will not be detrimental to the overall health of your plant. You should see some new blooms in a few weeks. If the deer really become a problem, you may want to try a product like “Liquid Fence.”
