KNOW YOUR ROOTS.

A bunch of bikes, two RV’s, cheap hotels, quality (well okay, and some cheap) brew, half-decent food, and the open road – where we come from, this is paradise. Not to mention the basis for countless stories, as any rider who’s been on road trips can attest to.

It’s been a while since we last hit the road, so this year we decided to pack our entire team (minus Chris Akrigg because of injury, you’ll see why in a minute) into two 30-foot RV’s for the Know Your Roots Road Trip. Beginning in the shadow of the Coors Brewery and ending in Southern California back where it all began in '74, our riders represented the ‘Goose at iconic BMX and Mountain destinations – culminating in an all-star celebration in Los Angeles with our pro riders and Mongoose legends from our storied past.

Our Know Your Roots Road Trip showcased Mongoose at its best through the non-stop hustle and commitment of our pro riders – demonstrating (and exceeding) what’s possible on two wheels and validating our product’s performance. Our 2012 line represents our commitment to producing authentic, high-quality bikes that will hold up to the rigors of any trail or street, giving our pros – and aspiring riders across the world – confidence in their ability to perform and push their limits on two wheels.

In 1980, Mongoose rider Jeff “Kos” Kosmala dominated BMX racing aboard a prototype KOS Kruiser – winning 21 of 24 National races, the ABA and NBL National #1 titles, and the JAG World Championships. Following Kosmala’s epic year, the KOS Kruiser was released to the world so BMXers could be like Jeff, or as his race pants read “Just Be Kos.”

For 2012, Kosmala and Mongoose have reunited to launch an all-new KOS Kruiser. A modernized version of a BMX classic, the new KOS features a double-butted 100% 4130 Chromoly looptail frame, chromoly straight-blade forks, 48-spline 3-piece cranks, Sun Rhyno Lite XL rims, Avid V-brakes & levers, and sealed bearing hubs harking back to the famous “Son-Lite’s” complete with an extra-wide flange-to-flange distance for increased stiffness. Available in Chrome or clear-coated Raw finish, both versions feature graphics inspired by the original.

Mongoose team riders are not the type to take it easy, so it’s safe to say that if the Fraction holds up to their demands, it will hold up to yours. It’s been updated for 2012 with improved removable brake mounts, and a fork with a 1-piece CNC-machined steerer tube. Odyssey tires, lever and grips, internal-clamp stem, and sealed bearing plastic pedals are just a glimpse of what this bike has to offer.

If this bike doesn’t hold up to your riding, chances are you’re not better than our guys, you’re just not very good at landing.

Each model features updated geometry, including shorter rear ends to help you pull longer manuals, dialed build kits with 25/9 drivetrains, and killer paintjobs to give you a ride that looks as good as it works.

Never one to ignore the up-and-coming younger BMX crowd, we redesigned our Program 16” and 18” bikes to utilize v-brakes (versus the u-brakes commonly found on bikes this size) to give the little guys the power to stop. Smaller hands have less strength and v-brakes work much better with less power. Seems like a no-brainer, right?
