I would like to take a moment to congratulate all the players and coaches across the OCAA for their hard work and commitment to excellence this year. It has been a great season with some outstanding performances as we anticipate an exciting finish at Algonquin College this weekend.

I would also like to thank the staff at Algonquin College for all of their time and effort in organizing this tournament, as well as Marlene Ford for all of her efforts in the portfolio of Women’s Soccer Senior Convenor.

Congratulations to all participants for qualifying to this year’s OCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. All four competing teams are worthy contestants of this honour. They are also outstanding representatives of their respective colleges, as well as fine examples of the value of combining academic pursuits with athletic achievements.

Enjoy these two days of competition. Win or lose, the OCAA wishes that its student –athletes can look back on their collegiate years with fond memories.

WELCOMEWelcome to the OCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.

Algonquin College and its Students’ Association are proud to host this event. All games will take place at our “State-of-the-Art” soccer turf facility, which is located on the Woodroffe Campus.

This championship promises to be very entertaining due to the enor-mous wealth of talent and skill demonstrated by the players represent-ing the top college teams from across the province. College sport has long been recognized as an important part of campus life. Sport builds

character and encourages our student-athletes to strive for excellence.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the players and their coaches on their outstanding seasons and hope that you enjoy the competition and your time spent with us here in Ottawa.

Good luck to you all and may the best team win and go on to represent Ontario at the Nationals, hosted by Holland College, in Charlottetown, P.E.I from November 7-10, 2012.

2012-13 CCAA Soccer Female Apprentice Coaches

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is pleased to announce the successful SOCCER candidates participating in the 2012-2013 CCAA Female Apprentice Coach Program. The CCAA Female Apprentice Coach Program targets female graduating student-athletes to participate in collegiate sport as apprentice coaches. The program provided grants for professional development opportunities and operational costs associated with the apprentice coach. Apprentice coaches typically aid in player scout-ing, team communications, training exercises, skill development and administrative duties throughout the season. The CCAA Female Apprentice Coach program is funded by Sport Canada.

Fleming Knights, OCAAApprentice: Tierney KingThe former women's soccer captain and recent fitness and health promotion graduate plans to apply her knowledge to the Fleming women's soccer team. Mentor coach Tony Bombino already has nothing but praise: "She possesses very good communication skills, has developed a very good understanding of soccer tactics, and is constantly working at improving herself and others around her."
