What is Food Day?

Think of it as an Earth Day- for food!

Food Day is a nationwide celebration and a movement toward more healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. Food Day, created by CSPI, is powered by a diverse coalition of food movement leaders, organizations, and people from all walks of life. Food Day takes place annually on October 24 to address issues as varied as health and nutrition, hunger, agricultural policy, animal welfare, and farm worker justice. The ultimate goal of Food Day is to strengthen and unify the food movement in order to improve our nation’s food policies. Join this push for a stronger, more united food movement by signing up to organize or attend Food Day events in your community.

Craving Change? Spearheaded by the nonprofit Center for Science in the Public Interest, Food Day is organized around five priorities: 1. Promote safer, healthier diets 2. Support sustainable and organic farms 3. Reduce hunger 4. Reform factory farms to protect the environment 5. Support fair working conditions for food and farm workers

Here in Savannah, Well FED will be hosting one of the largest Food Day festivals in the country,

for a second year in a row!

On Sunday, October 28th, the Sunday after the National Food Day, the City of Savannah will be treated to a large outdoor festival at Daffin Park, located next to Historic Grayson Stadium on Victory Drive. The festival is from 11am to 6pm and is free and open to the public, with live music, food vendors, dozens of exhibitors, vendors and free workshops. This festival will be full of activities for all ages and families, including your pets!

A family-friendly festival, done right...

Last year’s festival garnered national and local media attention, with coverage in virtually every local media outlet, including the front page of the Sunday paper. In addition, proclamations were also secured from the State of Georgia, Chatham County, and The City of Savannah. Chatham County commissioner, Pete Laikakis, was also on hand to present us with the county proclamation and inaugurate the first festival. It was official: Food Day was recognized at all levels of government and is here to stay!

We invite all of Savannah to mark their calendars!

This year’s festival promises to be even bigger: More food, more activities, more entertainment and plenty more too see and learn. Attendees could easily spend an entire day engaged in workshops, eating from local food vendors, listening to live performances from headline bands and even playing with their children or pets in the park. or provided activities areas.
