Color Cosmetic Trend Colors Forecast Autumn | Winter 2014 | 2015

For the season of autumn and winter 2014 and 2015 we created three themes aimed at different color

ranges and varying degrees regarding gloss and sparkle effect. The themes Paris, mon amour,

Frosted Foliage and Silver meets Red perfectly highlights the strengths of ECKART’s cosmetic

effect pigment series.

'is a romantic invitation to the “city of love and light”. The French passionately

embody the “joie de vivre” – the joy of living that can be seen as a philosophy of

life; be it in terms of cultivated conversation, of wine and dine or other

enjoyments. French ladies represent elegance and sensuality. Their pride and

sovereignty are always accompanied by the high heels they are wearing. This

induced us to create pressed eye shadows that radiate dreamy melancholy when

the cold season starts in Europe. Lip glosses in warm reds and champagne

reminiscent of delicious red wine and luxuriously sparkling champagne, and dark-

in-dark colors for the nails to underline the power and resolution of French

women.

Paris, mon amour concentrates on our synthetic mica based

SYNCRYSTAL pigments. All newly available pigments, introduced

during the European in-cosmetics show held in Paris 2013, have

been incorporated in this theme. Pigments from our SYNCRYSTAL

range provide outstanding gloss and color purity and are the perfect

choice to create a clean and elegant look without expressive sparkle.

Furthermore, SYNAFIL, ECKART’s cosmetic fillers have been used

to improve the skin feel of the color cosmetic applications.

The pressed eye shadows mirror the timeless elegance of French

women underlined by combinations of gold- and earth tone

shades, earth tones in admixture with colored SYNCRYSTAL

pigments, or earth tones combined with colorants. Each application provides an

outstanding soft skin feel and a nearly creamy texture thanks to the incorporation of

SYNAFIL S 1050; synthetic mica based cosmetic filler. The lovely bonus in this theme is a

midnight-blue-gray mascara containing SYNCRYSTAL Sparkling Silver.

Lip Gloss:

Auspicious gloss is provided on the lips with the Parisian lip gloss colors, whether decent through the

combination of SYNCRYSTAL Almond with Gold and Red; expressive thanks to a mix of

SYNCRYSTAL Scarlet and Fire-Red or vivaciousness that is provoked by the liaison of

SYNCRYSTAL Copper with Fire-Red.

Nail Polishes:

All nail colors have a dark undertone. They provide cautious shine, and are hence suitable for many

occasions. Again, names and colors embody the Parisian life and tell little stories of the Seine and its

banks with the help of SYNCRYSTAL Sapphire and Almond; or of the typical Stiletto Heels

incorporating SYNCRYSTAL Ivory, for example.

In Frosted Foliage natural hues of wood speak of our longing for a life

in harmony with nature. When the days get shorter and cooler we love to

spend time at home reading a good book and listening to music; or we

dress up in weatherproof clothes and walk through nature admiring the

colors nature surprises us with every year . These colors are mirrored in

the Frosted Foliage theme. They radiate warmth and coziness that helps us to forget about our

everyday worries, and helps us to rediscover our inner balance. Loose eye shadows, shiny lip glosses

and shimmering nail polishes draw a picture-perfect image of us in resonance with our environment.

VISIONAIRE, the metal effect pigment range builds the core of

Frosted Foliage. With its coverage and metallic sheen it extends

the possibilities one has in combining these pigments with other

pearlescent pigments such as SYNCRYSTAL or MIRAGE. As a

result, impressive natural shades with unexpected sparkle effects

are obtained.

The loose eye shadows generate strong and outstanding colors with subliminal sparkle given for

example through the power of MIRAGE Sparkling Fire-Red. Cool tints are provided with a warm touch

as we can find in the combination of SYNCRYSTAL Sapphire with VISIONAIRE Natural Gold or

SYNCRYSTAL Copper with VISIONAIRE Bright Silver Sea.

We continue with warmth on the lips by providing vibrant leaf colors complementing the eye shadows

and delighting the lips. SYNCRYSTAL earth tones are mixed with VISIONAIRE Lava that strengthens

the gloss on the lips thanks to its metallic substrate.

Nail Polishes:

Be it a warm green touch of foliage underlined by SYNCRYSTAL Spring Gold, an elegant champagne

golden shimmer owed to metallic pigments, a mix of SYNCRYSTAL Copper and Champagne or a

rose beige shade created by the use of SYNCRYSTAL Scarlet and Copper in admixture with

VISIONAIRE Bright Silver Sea – all nail polishes are perfectly suitable to create an inherently

consistent autumnal make-up.

Without doubt the most glamorous trend color theme of this

season is Silver meets Red. Silver as a clear statement of

coolness, purity and understatement meets Red, mirroring the

sparking heat of temptation. In this theme both cannot exist

without the other. Silver shows its eclectic facets, and perfectly

contrasts the power of the energetic and confident reds. As

reduced and simplified the colors, as versatile are the cosmetic

applications in this theme. They contain loose, creamy and liquid

eye shadow as well as lipstick, lip smoothie and lip topcoat, not

to forget about the nail polishes. This theme is dedicated to the

festive season as well as to a fantastic night out.

Silver meets Red unites the three main pigment series MIRAGE, borosilicate based, SYNCRYSTAL,

synthetic mica based and VISIONAIRE, based on metals and alloys. Combining the different effects

leads to fireworks of glitz and glam and luxurious luster. Simply an outstanding upgrade.


Eyes:

The cream eye shadow scores with a silvery base color, supplied by VISIONAIRE Bright Silver Sea.

SYNAFIL W 1234 leads to a soft texture and spices up the sparkle that is generated through MIRAGE

Glamour Red. Additional silver sparkle can be provided by the powder eye shadow containing

VISIONAIRE Bright Silver Sea combined with MIRAGE Glamour Silver. Last but not least, the gel eye

shadow with MIRAGE Sparkling Silver can be used solely as a highlighter or can strengthen the gloss

when applied on the lid after the cream and/ or the powder eye shadow has been applied.

Lips: Loose Powder Blush:

The lipstick provides a soft red flame which results from combining SYNCRYSTAL Fire-Red and

SYNCRYSTAL Red. The lip smoothie behaves like velvet on the lips and gives to them a saturated

red enhanced with MIRAGE Sparkling Fire-Red. For the perfect finish, the lip topcoat provides a kind

of SYNCRYSTAL Sparkling Silver sequins as topping.

The loose powder blush with SYNCRYSTAL Fire-Red as this theme’s bonus leaves the cheeks fresh

and glowing.

Nails:

Red Carpet, the brilliant nail blush is created with a gloriously shining SYNCRYSTAL Fire-Red. It

catches the eyes of the prom guests as well as the red flame of Smashing Fireworks, the matte

sparkle nail color which stands out through the incorporation of SYNAFIL W 1234. The nail varnish

Illustrious Debut provides a mirror-like nail coating thanks to the use of METALURE and can be set as

a special highlight when only one nail is coated with it.

Technical Aspects

One of the most important groups of effect pigments are pearlescent pigments. They are coated with

metal oxides and differentiate by their substrates. MIRAGE pigments are based on borosilicate flakes,

while SYNCRYSTAL pigments have their origin in synthetic mica platelets. The coated flakes/

platelets – depending on the coating thickness – exhibit the entire spectrum of colors. Another very

important group of effect colorants are metallic pigments (represented by the VISIONAIRE pigment

series), consisting of aluminum, bronze and copper, which offer unique metallic shine and enhanced

coverage. Aluminum pigments in particular, can greatly increase the color palette if combined with

organic absorption pigments and/ or pearlescent pigments.

For a better understanding of the diverse design capabilities, a common consideration of particle size

and color is enlightening. When using pearlescent pigments, silky and satiny effects can be achieved

by using particles smaller than 25 µm. In contrast, particles larger than 150 µm will attain a brilliant and

glittery effect. Similar rules apply for metallic pigments, where the achievable effects range from very

brilliant and bright when using particles smaller than 50 µm to very sparkling and glittery when using

particle sizes up to 95 µm.
