INVITATIONS AND MEMORIAL RESOLUTIONS

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 682) to request that the Department of Transportation name the intersection located at the juncture of South Carolina Highways 9 and 57 in Horry County, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE INTERSECTION LOCATED AT THE JUNCTURE OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS 9 AND 57 IN HORRY COUNTY “STALVEY BELLAMY INTERSECTION” AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS INTERSECTION THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS “STALVEY BELLAMY INTERSECTION”.

Whereas, Mr. Stalvey Bellamy was born on February 11, 1920, in Little River, South Carolina, and died on April 3, 1995; and

Whereas, he was a successful farmer in the Little River community and a tireless advocate for the improvement of the quality of life for the people of his community; and

Whereas, Mr. Bellamy worked to provide transportation to the citizens of this community to obtain services provided by the Department of Social Services, the Department of Health and Human Service, the Social Security Administration, and the Voter Registration office; and

Whereas, he was instrumental in persuading the Department of Transportation to install a traffic light at the intersection of South Carolina Highways 9 and 57 which has improved traffic safety along both highways; and

Whereas, Mr. Bellamy was a lifetime faithful member of Mt. Calvary #2 Missionary Baptist Church; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper to forever remember the service that this son of South Carolina provided to his community by naming the intersection of South Carolina Highways 9 and 57 in Horry County in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly requests that the Department of Transportation name the intersection located at the juncture of South Carolina Highways 9 and 57 in Horry County “Stalvey Bellamy Intersection” and erect appropriate markers or signs at this intersection that contain the words “Stalvey Bellamy Intersection”.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
