Introduction and funding history

Renovation master plan funding proposed for $30 Million to: • Comprehensive renovation of Virginia G. Piper

Theater• Total renovation of Stage 2 • Fully renovate atrium• Create flexible multi-purpose space on north side• Relocate and renovate box office• Relocate and renovate retail and full catering

kitchen• Create new mezzanine level that encircles entire

atrium• Build new main entrance on the west side• Modernize north entrance and renovate south

entrance with a lobby• Renovate atrium restrooms• Update and expand public spaces, administration

areas and storage• Upgrade technology and equipment• Create new spaces and access for art storage

Renovation master plan received funding for $16 Million and finished: • Partial renovation of the Virginia G. Piper Theater• Relocation and renovation of box office• Partial renovation of atrium • Limited rebuild of kitchen• Addition of partial mezzanine Level • New main west entrance• Updated atrium restrooms

2012 Bond Proposal: SCPA Renovations Phase III funding proposed for $10.5 Million to:

• Complete Virginia G. Piper Theater enhanced acoustical equipment system

• Relocate and renovate Stage 2• Install atrium acoustical treatment• Complete kitchen• Combine the retail stores • Create flexible multi-purpose space on north

side• Create a Cultural Council orientation lobby and

main entrance at the south entrance• Update north and south entrance doors• Expand and update public spaces,

administration areas and storage• Install high-tech donor wall • Enhance the Cultural Council campus through

making an architectural connection between SMoCA and SCPA

2012 Bond Proposal: SCPA Renovations Phase III proposal was not funded:

A key recommendation to the Scottsdale Cultural Council from the 2010 Cultural Facilities Needs Assessment included:

“Creating a small-to mid-size, flexible, high-tech space to accommodate informal and accessible programming that targets traditionally underserved market segments

and provides opportunities for Cultural Council divisions, local artists and arts organizations to collaborate on inter-disciplinary projects.”

New Performance AreaNew opportunities in the North Performance Area will: •Maximize venue functionality and flexibility. •Enhance already successful Center series. •Produce artistically excellent series that will draw new audiences.•Create entry opportunities for new audiences with lower-priced tickets and free events.•Bring additional educational offerings to the community and nearby schools.•Create opportunities to collaborate with SMoCA and Public Art. •Generate partnerships with local arts organizations such as the Scottsdale International Film Festival, smaller theater groups, local publishers or libraries, and nearby colleges and universities.•Maximize revenue potential by increasing programming, rentals, food-and-beverage options, etc.
