ACROSS THE FIELD - Patrick Etherton is in her third season as the head coach of the Big Blue. Etherton has been on the Millikin football staff since 2004 and also had coaching stops at Washington & Jefferson College, the University of Puget Sound and Alle- gheny College. Game 7: Elmhurst (1-5) vs. Millikin (1-5) TODAY’S MATCH-UP—Elmhurst brings a 1-5 record into this afternoon’s contest, looking for its first victory since its season-opening win over Lo-ras on September 5. Millikin brings an identical 1-5 mark into today’s match-up. The Big Blue’s only win of the sea-son came in a 52-49 shootout over Au-rora on September 28.

SERIES HISTORY - Today’s game is the 58th meeting between Elmhurst and Millikin on the gridiron. Millikin leads the all-time series 42-15. The series dates back to 1931 with Millikin scor-ing a 25-0 win over Elmhurst. The Bluejays have won three straight meet-ings against the Big Blue and six of the last eight contests. LAST MEETING - Elmhurst nipped Millikin 45-42 in overtime when the two squads clashed in Decautr last year (October 20, 2012). THE BLUEJAYS’ LAST WEEK - Elmhurst stayed right with 13th-ranked Wheaton before falling 28-3 to the Thun-der. Trailing just 7-0 at the half, Elmhurst cut into Wheaton’s lead early in the third quarter on a 39-yard field goal from David Tomis. Wheaton answered back with three straight touchdown drives to pull away for the 25-point win. Elmhurst rushed for 150 yards and passed for 99 in the loss. Garrett Claxon totaled 133 yards for the Bluejays, rushing nine times for 52 yards and catching two passes for 61 yards. THE BIG BLUE LAST WEEK - Millikin fell to 1-5 overall after dropping a 47-19 contest to Augustana. Leading by just two points at the half, Augustana outscored Millikin 33-7 in the second half en route to the 28-point win. The Big Blue rushed for 236 yards while passing for 132 yards. Sean Dunning ran wild for Millikin, carrying 28 times for 254 yards and three touchdowns. Augustana QB Samuel Frasco rushed for 203 yards and a score while also passing for 149 yards and a touchdown. HOME SWEET HOME - Elmhurst has shown a lot of success in defending its own turf on Langhorst Field. After fin-ishing a perfect 6-0 at home last season, the Bluejays hold a 12-2 record at Langhorst Field over the past two plus seasons.The Bluejays nine game home winning streak was halted three weeks ago in a loss to fourth-ranked North Cen-tral. OFFENSE/DEFENSE - Elmhurst enters today’s game ranked 90th in the nation in total defense, limiting opponents to just 346.3 yards per game. The Bluejays rank 51st in the nation against the run (174.0 yards per game) and 147th against the run (172.3 yards per game). Elmhurst’s offense enters the game ranked 214th in the nation in total yardage (290.2 yards per game). The Bluejays are ranked 75th in the nation in rushing (189.7) but have struggled through the air, ranking 227th (100.5 yards per game). OFFENSE/DEFENSE PART II - Millikin’s offensive and defensive statis-tics are a near reverse of Elmhurst’s. The

Big Blue’s offense has been solid, rank-ing 116th in the nation in yardage (371.0 yards per game). Millikin ranks 79th in rushing yardage (187.0 yards per game) and 162nd in passing yards (184.0 yards per game). Millikin’s defense has strug-gled through the team’s first six games of the year. Millikin is currently ranked last (241st) in Division III in both total de-fense (allowing 540.2 yards per game) and rushing defense (322.5 yards per game) while ranking 148th in passing defense (217.7). AERIAL ATTACK– Elmhurst has struggled to move the ball through the air through the first six games of the season. Three different Elmhurst quarterbacks have combined to complete 61-of-145 pass attempts for 603 yards. The Blue-jays have passed for a pair of touch-downs while throwing 10 interceptions. The Bluejays are averaging just 100.5 yards per game and have failed to break 100 passing yards three times this season. The Bluejays’ single-game high this sea-son is 186 yards against Loras on Sep-tember 5. Last season, the Bluejays aver-aged 172.5 passing yards per game while throwing for 14 touchdowns and six in-terceptions.  CLOSE CONTESTS - Elmhurst and Millikin games have come down to the wire when the two teams have faced off for the last seven games. The last seven contests between the two squads have all been decided by seven points or less. The last game to be decided by more than one score was in 2006 when Elmhurst upend-ed Millikin 45-35 BLUE SHOOTOUT - Offenses have dominated the games when Elmhurst and Millikin have faced off. Last season, the two squads combined for over 1,000 yards of offense and 87 total points. In the last 10 meetings between the two teams the winning squad has scored 30 points or more six times. The 2011 con-test also featured over 1,000 yards of to-tal offense by the two squads. THE LAST THREE - Elmhurst and Millikin have both put up gaudy offen-sive numbers the past three seasons when the team’s faced off. Elmhurst has aver-

aged 500 yards of offense and 42.7 points per game. Millikin has averaged 37.3 points per game while averaging 501.3 yards of offense. LET’S GO POLLING - The CCIW continues to be well represented in a pair of Division III national football polls. North Central is ranked fourth in the lat-est editions of both the AFCA and D3football.com poll. Wheaton checks in at No. 11 in the AFCA poll while climb-ing up to 10th in the latest D3foot-ball.com poll. Illinois Wesleyan has leaped into the D3football.com poll at No. 20. The Titans currently are ranked 17th in the latest AFCA poll. LOOKING AHEAD - Today’s game is just the third of four home games this season for the Bluejays. Elmhurst travels to North Park University next weekend (November 2). The Vikings currently own a 1-4 record on the season and bring a 1-2 CCIW mark into this weekend. North Park ended its streak of 89 consec-utive CCIW losses three weeks ago by defeating Carthage. Elmhurst has won 12 straight games against North Park. The Bluejays have just one remaining home game this season with a contest against Carthage College on November 9. Elmhurst closes out the 2013 season by traveling to Illinois Wesleyan University on November 16. LEADING THE WAY - Elmhurst had a strong showing last year whenever it jumped out in front of an opponent. The Bluejays were 8-1 in games that they scored first. The Bluejays were very tough to beat when they grabbed a lead, posting a 6-0 record when leading after the first quarter, a 7-0 record when lead-ing at the half, and a perfect 9-0 mark when leading after three quarters. Adding in the first six games of the 2013 season and Elmhurst is now 7-1 when leading after the first quarter, and 10-1when lead-ing after three quarters.. In it’s last 15 games, Elmhurst is also 9-4when finish-ing the game with a time of possession advantage and 9-1 when generating more yards of total offense. The Bluejays are also a 10-1 over their past 18 contests when winning the turnover battle.
