The Spirit & The Pride of Pennsylvania! Mansield University Marching Band is under the direction of Dr. Adam F. Brennan, Director of Bands and Dr. Nathan Rinnert, Assistant Director of Bands. The Spirit & The Pride consists of approximately 175 brass, wind, percussion and auxiliary members. Music for the 2013 season is inspired by the great composer, Ludwig von Beethoven and includes excerpts from Symphony No. 5, Symphony No. 6, the Moonlight Sonata and Symphony No. 9. Additional music includes Georgia on My Mind, Also Sprach Zarathrustra, El Gato Asuto and more.

All music is written speciically for The Spirit & The Pride by Director of Bands Dr. Brennan, and all drill is written by Assistant Director of Bands Dr. Nathan Rinnert. The Band Staff includes Ms. Julia Federico and Mr. Graham Kerick, Graduate Assistants.

The Spirit & The Pride rehearses just four hours per week over three days, making the time commitment to the group accessible to any major on campus. The band is a corps-style unit and is featured around the region at marching festivals, their own home show and at local community events. Since 2002, The Spirit & The Pride have been seen by over 5 million viewers internationally! One of the band’s favorite events in which to participate is the Collegiate Marching Band Festival in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The Spirit & The Pride has appeared there since 1996.

The success of The Spirit & The Pride is a direct result of the talent of our outstanding student members as exempliied by the 2013 Band Student Staff, which includes:

Our students are our leaders and we are grateful for their dedication and support!

Mansield University is located in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania and is one of 14 universities in the State System of Higher Education. About 3200 students attend the rural campus which offers over 70 options in over 34 degree programs including degrees in music performance, music education, music business and technology, a bachelor of arts degree in music and a master of arts degree with concentrations in instrumental conducting, choral conducting, collaborative piano and music education. Founded in 1857, Mansield was the irst state institution to grant a certiicate to teach music and has a long tradition of musical excellence. The music department is located in the Will George Butler Music Center which contains Steadman Theatre, two large rehearsal halls, 55 practice rooms and state-of-the-art electronic facilities. North Hall, the beautifully renovated Victorian building on campus, houses one of the inest libraries in the East, including an outstanding music library. The Music Department is staffed by a full-time faculty compliment of 24 artist-teachers. The department enrolls over 245 undergraduate and 30 graduate students and is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The university is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
