Chamber Orchestra

Tom Dinardis, Director

About the Ensemble

Westbrook Intermediate School is located south of Houston in the

NASA area. A 2010 exemplary campus, Westbrook is one of ten intermediate

schools in Clear Creek ISD. The school, with an enrollment of more than

1,200 6th, 7th, and 8th graders includes students from the surrounding

neighborhood and more than 650 students from WAVE, the district's magnet

for gifted learners. Westbrook's orchestra students go on to participate in the

orchestra programs of one of five high schools in the district.

There are four levels of orchestra at Westbrook. Students from all grade

levels audition for places in the top two orchestras. The Chamber Orchestra

was a finalist for Honor Orchestra in 2008 and 2009, and the group regularly

earns "outstanding orchestra" and "best in class" awards at various festivals,

in addition to UIL sweepstakes. Westbrook's string players are also heavily

represented in the Region XVII orchestra, with more than 40 students

performing in 2009 and 2010. Many Westbrook orchestra students have

become high school region and all-state musicians.

The Westbrook Chamber Orchestra has placed in the top five for

middle school string honor string orchestra for three years running, and all

three performing orchestras at Westbrook consistently receive superior

ratings and 'best in class' awards at UIL contests and festivals.

About the Director

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Tom Dinardis started playing violin in

the fourth grade in public school. He played as a member of the Baldwin

Wallace youth orchestra program for nine years and is the winner of

various scholarships and awards including outstanding student teacher

of 1995 at Cleveland State University, where he studied violin and viola

with Daniel Rains and Stanley Knopka of the Cleveland Orchestra and

graduated cum laude with a degree in Music Education. He remembers

his high school orchestra director having a great influence on his

decision to become a teacher, and as a high school student formed a

string octet and taught private lessons to district elementary string

players in a pilot program. Tom is currently in his fourteenth year

teaching in CCISD and has been at Westbrook (formerly Webster) since

1998, where the orchestra program has grown from thirty to over two

hundred students.

Mr. Dinardis is an active adjudicator, clinician, arranger, and

performer in the Clear Lake area. He is a regular member of the Halcyon

Quartet, is the principal 2nd violinist of the Clear Lake Symphony, and

has played with the Pasadena Philharmonic Orchestra, Galveston

Symphony, and the Symphony of Southeast Texas. He has been living in

Texas with his wife Karen since 1996 and has four children, soon to be

the Dinardis Quartet.
