AS OF MARCH 4, 2013:The Recreation and Human Services Administration South Officeslocation will close. Recreation and Human Services administration willbe located in suite #107 on the first floor of City Hall. Althoughquestions will be fielded at the City Hall location, registration andother customer service functions will only be available at the MarinaCommunity Center and Senior Community Center at the days andtimes listed below.

The Senior Community Center customer service hours will be from8:30am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday. The building will be open 7 days aweek for rentals and scheduled activities.

The City of San Leandro adopted a Polystyrene Foam Food ServiceWare Ordinance that requires the City and local food establishmentsto discontinue the use of polystyrene foam (also known as Styrofoam ®)food service ware products as of November 1, 2012. Bannedpolystyrene foam food service ware products include cups, bowls,plates, clamshell containers, soup containers and trays made fromexpanded foam polystyrene typically labeled #6. Swim Lesson DescriptionsAquababes • Age: 6 months - 3 yearsSign up for Aquababes and let your child enjoy their first aquatic experience. This class is great for water introductionand parent/child bonding while getting a little physical exercise. Participants will enjoy games as well as water safetylessons. Parents are to accompany their children in the pool. If children are not potty-trained, they must wear leak-proof diapers.

Tiny Tots • Age: 3 - 5 yearsThis class is designed to teach basic water skills, breath holding, floating, jumping in, and more depending upon the child’sswimming interest and ability. Children have a great time learning new skills while building up their confidence in andaround water. Parents do not accompany children into the pool.

Learn to Swim (LTS)-Beginner • Age: 6 - 16 yearsThis class will increase your child’s confidence in water and create a solid swimming foundation. The class emphasizesthe basics, including floating and kicking on both front and back, alternating arm action, rhythmic breathing, combinedstroke on front and back, turning over front to back and back to front, water safety moves, and how to get help in anemergency. This class is for children entering levels 1 or 2 with little or no swimming experience and those with a level1 card or equal skill.

Learn to Swim (LTS) - Intermediate • Age: 6 - 16 yearsThis intermediate-level class teaches the various swim strokes, emphasizing on the fundamentals of front crawl,backstroke, elementary backstroke, deep-water bobbing, introduction to sidestroke and breaststroke, turns at the wall,treading water, self-rescue skills, jumping into deep water with a lifejacket and familiarity with CPR and rescuebreathing. This class is for children entering levels 3 or 4 with a level 2 or 3 card or equal skills.

Learn to Swim (LTS) - AdvancedThis advanced-level class works on techniques and helps your child refine their strokes; front crawl, back crawl,elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly. Additionally, this class will familiarize your child withmore difficult techniques like alternate breathing, swimming underwater, deep-water bobbing, turns at the wall, divingsafety, alternative kicks for treading water, and the approach stroke. By the end of the course, your child will also knowhow to incorporate learn-to-swim skills and activities into lifetime fitness, various conditioning principles and in-waterrescue techniques. This class is for children entering level 5, 6 or 7 with level 4, 5 or 6 cards or equal skill.

Semi-Private - Beginner • Age: 6 - 16 yearsThis class is for children with little or no swimming experience that need a smaller class environment. This class will increaseyour child’s confidence in water and create a solid swimming foundation. Activities include arts and crafts,circle time, sharing, free play and more. Children must bepotty trained at the start of the class.

• Kiddie Kollege strives to provide our registered participantswith a quality program involving close supervision andattention by our staff. For this reason, unpaid siblings willnot be permitted to attend classes.

Medical Trips: Allow San Leandro residents who are 75years or older, or at least 18 years old and East BayParatransit certified to call and make a reservation for pickup and drop off for medical purposes within AlamedaCounty. Fee is $4 per 10 miles each way. Operates Mondaythrough Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Note: FLEX ShuttleServices do not operate on City observed holidays.

Enrollment is required to use the FLEX Shuttle services. Anapplication must be completed and submitted withrequired documentation and annual registration fee of $20.

Program Funding: The Flex Paratransit Service is supportedentirely by funds from Measure B, a voter-approved ballotmeasure that set aside a portion of Alameda County Salestax revenue to fund transportation projects. Central County Taxi Voucher Pilot ProgramSame day, wheelchair accessible transportation servicethat provides a limited number of subsidized taxi rides toregistered participants of the San Leandro and HaywardParatransit Programs. Vouchers may be purchased for$3.50 per voucher. Each voucher subsidizes up to $14 oftaxi meter fare. Riders can purchase a maximum of 72vouchers per fiscal year.

What is Project Literacy? • ProjectLiteracy provides free tutoring andsupport for English speaking adultswho want to improve reading andwriting skills. Trained volunteers areavailable as tutors for adults age 16and older who have difficulty with

basic skills. Project Literacy welcomes the family byproviding monthly story times and free children’s bookdistribution at the main library and has a wonderfulcommunity outreach program that provides literacy servicesand resources to parents and their children ages 0 - 4 years.

How can you help? Be a tutor! Meet with your student foronly 2 hours a week and you will make a valuable differencein their life. Lead a weekly small group session, teach a basiccomputer class, provide office assistance, be an outreachreader to 3-5 year olds. Receive free training materials,everlasting support and many heartfelt Thank You’s! Youcan also help when you volunteer for Trivia Bee, ProjectLiteracy’s annual fundraiser.
